I remember when Tony Di Bart (crazy name, crazy dude) got to No 1 with The Real Thing in 1994, thinking it was the most forgettable and bland Number One I had ever heard.

Little did I know far far far worse was to follow.................

Very hard question that, but I think it would probably have to be 'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion. There isn't a single positive thing you can say about it. Warbled power ballad, played to death, featured in a massively overrated film...and it's Celine Dion FFS...

Celine is classy if she chooses so but I agree that MHWGO was destroyed by overplay. Falling Into You (especially the song)... Great stuff.

And The Real Thing

This is actually funny.. I can't think that any of the 90s big hits was worse than the big hits of the 80s. But noughties had some very dreadful attempts, mainly because of the endless flow of covers. I mean two versions of Against All Odds is just TOO MUCH

No matter how I try to be objective, last decade was the worst ever.

I actually love My Heart Will Go On
The worst in my memory was Cascada. Oh my god what and absolute load of noise. And the fact it kept Michael Jackson off...... I really liked the song.

Do you like 'Just Dance'? :D If one is a 'load of noise' then the other surely should be also that...

And I like both 'Be Faithful' and 'Babycakes'. :(

I can't name anything for the list so far.... I don't remember anything before mid-noughties, just because I have a short memory for the things I don't like. Same actually applies for the songs after mid-noughties.

Without a doubt for me it has to be Baby Cakes by 3 Of A Kind. What a load of shit that was. Fortunately they never got to release another single after that.

By the way am not including novelty or charity songs when I say this otherwise there are some which are even worse (just).

Crazy Frog is so much classier I AGREE :manson:

Anyone who name Be Faithful clearly has no taste :P (This is subjective, I know)

The sample of Faith Evans' glorious Love Like This is fantastic and the song is so groovy. It's a massive floorfiller in clubs

I remember somewhere that "Be Faithful" looked unlikely to make #1, but for some odd reason there was a huge surge of sales (remember this was before downloads) and it shot to #1? I reckon that was rigged for it to make #1.

Nah, I remember in the midweeks it was comfortably ahead of Blue's 'Guilty' the whole way. That was a useless song, and even more useless for not managing to prevent Fatman Scoop being #1. <_<

I actually didn't mind Crazy Frog. The track still makes me laugh. I always got the feeling people hated it for the sake of it because it was novelty. Yes it's awful, but I wouldn't say the worst no.1. To me a bad no.1 is one that isn't particularly memorable and the biggest offence I can think of is 'Wonderful' by Ja Rule. I mean I didn't even know how that song went at the time let alone 7 years later. In fact I remember songs released that week that didn't make no.1 much better.

I just realised something...

Fatboy Slim - Praise You

Fatman Scoop - Be Faithful

Is it just a coincidence that 'Fat[male] [random word]' got to #1 twice, each time with a sort of religious themed title? Although obviously 'faithful' isn't used in the religious sense in Fatman Scoop's song.

Anyway, My Heart Will Go On is probably third in my list. :P

Much prefer Crazy Frog. It is just Axel F after all.

I loooooove "Babycakes" and "Be Faithful"! but I have to admit that novelty hits are usually my guilty pleasures :D

I really can't fault "Babycakes", apart from the horredously cheesy video. :puke2: And quite frankly, I think the hate for it comes from the fact that it held off The Libertines's "Can't Stand Me Now" from the top spot. Since that was easily the Libs's only decent song by far, it does end up being quite a shame.

Worst #1 single in the UK ever? Well, the obvious answer would have to be some novelty like "There's No One Quite Like Grandma", Renee & Renato, "Two Little Boys", Little Jimmy Osmond, any of Jive Bunny's three (count them!) number ones, any X-Factor/Pop Idol/ coronation song, Chico, "Cha-Cha Slide", Crazy Frog, "In The Year 2525", David Soul, Goombay Dance Band, The Firm, etc. Of course, any of Cliff Richard's Xmas-related tunes or every Shakin' Stevens #1 ever would also be quite a contender for this title.

But honestly, it will have to be between Nizlopi's "The JCB Song", James Blunt's "You're Beautiful", Adele's "Someone Like You", anything by Celine Dion, Limp Bizkit's "Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)", Slim Whitman's "Rose Marie", Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire", Herman's Hermitts's "I'm Into Something Good", anything by Brotherhood of Man, anything by Johnny Logan, Charlene's "I've Never Been To Me", anything by Paul Young, Glenn Medeiros's "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" (not even the fact that he carries Portuguese blood saves him :P)... I mean, I could go on, right?

It's hard to pick an absolute worst number one ever, but Baby Cakes is an awful record. :puke2: Definitely one of the worst number one's of the 00's.

Again, this seems very out of place... okay, the song may be overrated but there's no way it's among the worst #1s ever.

Not for me. The song truly irritates me. I'm not very fond of over-emoting in song. It's cliché and, most of the time, a really LCD trick. Besides, she's nothing more than a modern-day Celine Dion to me, if you ask me.
Another vote for "My Heart Will Go On"......take away the sappy, drippy, crappy film it was featured on, it would be lucky to make the top 20. It's nothing but a run of the mill ballad with sickening lyrics.
Much prefer Crazy Frog. It is just Axel F after all.

Just a shame that version was obviously produced in some kind of studio software and still managed to sound like one of those awful midi ringtones...
