in the 70s/80s when artists released their 2/3/4th singles did they climb in the fashion of adele and other artists who can quite go top 10

In the 80s and 90s the album was often not released until after the second single.

Quite ironic that Adele is nominated for so many MTV awards really.

Also, did anybody hear that even Reggie thinks Party Rock Anthem and Where Them Girls At sounds similar! :o

I think this was SFTTR's last chance of making Top 10! :(

Last week was IMO - it never had a shot at top 10 this week, I'm just glad it's managed a second week at #11 because that'll obviously be its peak as annoying as it is. Should still be around for ages and sell loads.

so did the 3rd single struggle?

just realised hitz is released on vinyl next week, might peak higher than 39 afteer all?!
in Nov 84 The riddle single (1st track off the album) was 2 weeks before the album, same with Human Racing and the single wouldnt it be good, but it was a year before When a heart beats was on the LP

Remember that there was usually a further incentive for people who already owned the album to buy the singles which frequently contained brand new b-sides, which don't really seem to happen anymore - and if they do you can just cherry pick the b-side!

I've lost count of the amount of Corrs singles for example that I bought post album, but if they released a new album now, there'd be no point in downloading individual songs that I already have elsewhere.

Considering the amount of people that own 21 already, and the fact that it doesn't have a video so zero TV exposure, #11 is a very credible peak for Set Fire To The Rain imo!

Vinyl won't really help it that much, its only hope of climbing is if it does a 'Bubbles' (Biffy Clyro) which just scraped in at #40 then climbed to #34 the next week presumably just because of it being top 40 the previous week as there was no other reason for it to be climbing.

The Thomas Gold Remix is INCREDIBLE imo. So epic.

Oh really? Havent heard that one! Going to listen to it now! :w00t: I LOVE the Moto Blanco remix! :D

Example's last week in the top 10 :( Ah well, 7 weeks isn't too bad, but it started so well spending 4 weeks top 2!

Discussion Thread Here

Honestly thought 'Last Friday Night' would re-peak this week - but a (24-11-9-9-10-10) chart run is looking to get nothing but worse. However, if Example, Derulo and Harris are to be replaced by Winehouse, JLS and Sabre - this could potentially climb to #8 (depending on how well Amy Winehouse does during the week).
Why are you talking about Nick Kershaw? :/

Wouldn't It Be Good if he stopped?
