01| Born This Way

02| The Edge of Glory

Promo Single 1: Americano

Promo Single 2: Hair

(-Album Release-)

03| Judas

04| USA: 'Yoü & I' | Europe: Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)

05| Marry The Night

06| Scheiße

(-Album Re-Release-)

01| 'Born This Way' is the obvious first single, I don't think it would've worked/gone down well with anyone other than the fans, or been half as successful if it were released any later.

02| I feel 'TEoG' could've had the potential to become one of her most successful tracks to date if it were released as the second single, and its probably the most perfect track to sell the album upon as everyone seemed to love it.

Promo Single 1: 'Americano' to show a bit of diversity/progression and something slightly different from GaGa.

Promo Single 2: Fun, pop track which appeals to the vast majority, great for people to hear the week before the album release.

(-Album Release-)

03| 'Judas' I feel, got overshadowed slightly by 'TEoG' and think it could've been much more successful if released after the album, giving airplay a time to kick in properly before reaching its chart peak, its too good not to have been released.

04| There's no way 'Yoü & I' is going to go down that well anywhere other than the US. 'Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)' is a great feel good track, perfect for summer, and great for Europe.

05| 'Marry The Night' can't not get a release at some point. Its a track which would appeal to the casual buyer so releasing it later on would keep the era a float for a little while longer, its also, I'd say, a guaranteed hit.

06| Last single to be released from the album, and its the fan favourite. Doesn't particularly matter how well it performs, so if radio's decide not to play it (for obvious reasons) its not a big deal. Considering the possible lack of airplay, the song is still strong enough to sell itself.

Which singles would've you have chosen to release, and in what order?

--Re-release--

Born This Way

Obvious first single despite my ambivalence towards it.

Marry the Night

Clearly one of the most commercial songs on the album and perhaps rather pre-Born This Way. Classic GaGa but not reeking of Bad Romance 2.0 (Judas).

Scheiße

Perfect for summer, ridiculously catchy and made for a fucking crazy VMA performance.

The Edge of Glory

Wintery, she could have done the whole piano-schtick on the X Factor.

Not really sure with the rest. I love both Judas and Bloody Mary (especially) but the religious connotations really is a turn-off for most.

01. 'Born This Way' (Looking back, it really couldn't have been anything else, could it?)

Promo Singles: 'Americano' & 'Yoü & I'

02. 'The Edge of Glory'

---Album Release---

03. 'Marry the Night'

04. 'Scheiße'

05. 'Hair' (Europe)/'Yoü & I' (US)

---END (2 Years break!)---

That would be the most perfect run of singles for me, personally. (BTW is still a shit song to me though, but as a lead single, it really was the best and most logical choice)

01. Marry The Night - To me this is the track that most represents the glam-Pop vibe of the album. It's massive, it hits all the spots and it should've been the lead.

02. Scheiße - Totally different, it's GaGa in a new direction. Would've worked wonders as a follow-up single to MTN.

03. Americano - The obvious Summer smash, and it kinda works as a continuation of Scheiße.

04. The Edge of Glory - Something a bit more serious with the same vibe as the lead single to finish off the album.

As much as I like "Judas", it pales in comparison to other Scandi-influenced uptempos she has, plus the religious connotations make it so cringy.

"Born This Way" is just pure ear-rape to me. Built solely on the whole "ooh GaGa loves the Gays and Madonna" status she flags all over the place at all times.

I would call the album The Edge of Glory.

To be honest, i have been very happy with the single choices. But i would preffered Marry the night than You & I for the next single.

07 Schiesse (July 2012)

01 - born this way - january 2011

this single only worked as it was the first single. it wouldnt have worked if it was released at a later stage so thats why i would keep it as it is.

02 - scheibe - april 2011

best song on the album by a long shot. would really have been the perfect single to launch the album.

promo singles:

judas (march 2011) - perfect as a promo single as its a bit like bad romance and would have kept her fans anticipating her album.

electric chapel (march 2011) - another song that would have been good as a promo single as it was a different sound for her.

03 - marry the night - july 2011

the most commercial song on the album. would have ensured that the album stayed at the top end of the chart for quite some time.

04 - americano - september 2011

this would be good for a continuation of paparazzi and telephone. a single remix with beyonce would make this huge.

05 - the edge of glory - december 2011

to end the era, i would have made this the final single. it would have ended the campaign on a high and with a much more maturer sound.

The album almost a year after the first single? Eh?

To be honest I think that's the winning formula for single selling acts.

Release a few singles and then later on put them on together on an album with a few new tracks. You would sell singles as well as albums.

I think Calvin Harris said something like that in his latest Popjustice interview...

Ah yes...

The album’s not coming out until next... Next... Let’s say next year.

That’s quite a long time. It felt like it would be this single then another then the album.

No. Well that would be the old favourite, wouldn’t it? The two-singles-then-the-album routine. But there are going to be at least four singles, maybe five. Or possibly there will never even be an album. We might get to five singles and think, ‘nah, f*** it’.

My thoughts exactly.

As much as you might want that to happen, I can't see it myself. She confirmed the week of the BTW album release that she's already started work on new material, whether that be for a re-release, or new album.

By the time November is here she will probably have already written another album...

And she could then release MORE singles, and a re-release or even a new album... You can do so many nowadays, why stick with the old formula?

Because no one wants to wait a year!

Well if she has enough material to release every month/two weeks I wouldn't mind waiting a few months for a track compilation...

Everyone wanted to explode by the time the album actually came out - revealing the release date five months ahead was excruciating for her biggest fans. Can you imagine almost a year? Haha. She isn't Calvin Harris, she can sell albums. If we're so concerned with a new formula then the Body Talk route is the only one I'm interested in.

That's another nice formula. GaGa would actually rock that one.

One or two singles and an EP with a few more tracks, then release it all together in that era's compilation. Brilliant.

Keeps everyone interested and everything fresh!
