August 21, 201115 yr I quite like "Don't Go", very understated for a #1 and quite different from what's got there this year. I usually disagree with people on here when they say that the chorus 'makes' a hip-hop song but I find it true here, the beat and backing make it really quite haunting whereas I still think Wretch's rapping isn't as good as Tinie's.
August 21, 201115 yr I preferred that Misery song they had. That was much catchier but it underperformed. MLJ has the voice effect which has led into it being a hit in the states though and getting a proper WW push. The song climbed to no 1 in the US on iTunes when it was performed on the voice in June but it got removed from iTunes and completely fell down to the mid 50's. It isn't the voice effect that has caused this to be a huge hit worldwide. The song was climbing back up the US iTunes even before they started doing promo on The Today Show and AGT. Granted, the initial exposure on the voice was advantageous but you cannot say a show that isn't shown over here in the UK or most of the countries it is charting high in is the SOLE reason it is doing well. If you think that you need a rethink.

They were all something original, GaGa is pretty much the biggest pure pop star since (Eminem for instance was similarly trailblazing to those three but is very much a hip-hop star). Pop in general has a very short memory - of course GaGa is effectively Madonna reborn for the 21st century (her focus of live shows and a massive online presence being the two clearest differences between her and Madge) but no one really cares as long as she keeps putting out strong pop music and selling it really well.
