Not only was his grammar not particularly bad in that post, but that is so rude!

I suppose you have to get used to people attitudes on this forum and just laugh it off. Normally you know its going well when the only way people can continue their side of the discussion and express there point of view is to suddenly discusss the persons grammar lol

I'm not going to comment on whether Charlie was being rude or not but yes it was 'particularly bad' to be fair. (I would know about that :P)

Does it really make that much of a difference. I cant be bothered and dont care enough to proof read every single thing I post of here.

It's not about 'proofreading', surely it should just be second nature to put an apostrophe in words like 'don't' and 'can't' :P

It is but sometimes I just cant be arsed. Its just a music forum, I couldnt give a f*** how terrible my grammar is, chill out and get a grip.

Sometimes people forget or just simply can't be bothered. One of those could be the reasoning behind you not putting a full stop at the end of that sentence. :P It doesn't particularly hinder the legibility of his message, so there shouldn't be such a fuss around it.

Hahahaha thank you for that

I don't put full stops at the end of sentences which end in an emoticon. AFAIC the emoticon counts as the punctuation at the end of a sentence in the same way a ? or ! does. A full stop after an emoticon looks silly and if you put it before the emoticon that makes the emoticon a new sentence which makes no sense.

How can you say you 'can't be bothered' to put an apostrophe in a word? It takes about a hundredth of a second, surely if you know there's meant to be an apostrophe there you'll do it automatically without thinking about it

Poor grammar doesn't hinder the legibility of your message, it just makes you look like someone who can't understand basic grammar that they teach you in primary school, which isn't exactly a desirable quality if you're trying to have an intelligent discussion about something...

Poor grammar doesn't really bother me either, as long as it's not so poor that I can't understand what they're saying!

And I think for some people, if they've spelt something wrong all their life, then they'll do it out of habit, and it'll be a difficult habit to break, since you do it without thinking (in the same way that we all put apostrophes in the appropriate words without thinking).

They teach you basic grammar very early in primary school English though (or at least they did for me) - so surely that should be people's 'habit', not the other way around?

When I see people write 'cant' instead of 'can't' or 'dont' instead of 'don't', the first thing I think is that that person didn't pay attention in school

Ah, the old grammar debate! It's important, folks, use it properly!

Plus, Charlie was hardly being rude! Not that any of this particularly matters in the grand scheme of things. HEY HO.

Random grammar chat in the sunday chart thread, I cant say nothing, My grammar is terrible! :kink:

Quite easy actually. "I cant be bothered"

Wow that was easier than I thought lol

This tbh. People really need to try their best to use correct grammar. I won't hate people if they don't, since I'm not the sort of person that does that, and I don't know their circumstances, but it's nice if people can be as correct as they possibly can (within reason).

It might be 'as far as you're concerned', but it's not technically correct grammar, which is what we're discussing here. Missing a full stop off the end of a sentence, is about as important as missing an apostrophe out of a word. You know it's supposed to be there, but there's no need to cause such a big fuss about it.

I think it's best to try and type with the best grammar you can, but if a person is typing fast, or they have something more pressing to do than make sure they have an apostrophe in a word, then I can completely see why their posts aren't grammatically perfect. Not everyone wants to type in completely correct grammar and not all people have impeccable English skills. Some people are dyslexic, some people actually don't know all the places they have to use an apostrophe etc. There's no need to ridicule them, or point it out every time they do something wrong. It just makes your look incredibly pompous.

Yeah. Good grammar is nice, but I don't think we should go to the level where people are nervous to post on here because they might get into an arguement everytime they miss an apostrophe.

The last thing we want on this forum is to have people feeling uncomfortable about posting on here, and not welcome.

Another fantastic and intelligent response from yourself, thank you.

All these conversations about grammar make my brain hurt. :( I also find that the posts which have perfect grammar in to be just as confusing to read as those without it.
To be honest, I don't always notice people's grammar mistakes on here. I will often spell words incorrectly if I'm typing in a hurry. I've usually got more important things on my mind than missing apostrophes.

Exactly my point. Most of the time im just typing that fast that I just post it before even checking through it to make sure ive got all the full stops, apostrophies. commers etc etc etc in the correct place. It really shouldnt be a big deal.
