August 28, 201113 yr When I sent Alex Young first contest, I have to admit that was because it sounded like something Buzzjack would love (and it worked!). Then Jolin Tsai was a risk, it was in Chinese, but I LOVED it so I sent it, and it flopped - but at least I loved it! I thought Helena Paparizou would be a hit too, but it was a DNQ :o I think it was just that it was so tough that contest! Then Joe Jonas was a mixture - it was my favourite song at the time that wasn't suspect to veto'ing, but also it was quite BJ (though he has a penis so he was never going to win :heehee:) - and it just missed out on the final. Then there was Oh My, same situation as Joe, but it also ended up being a top 10! The thing with That Girl With Dark Eyes is I'm going off a bit now :( I wish I'd sent the brilliant K-Pop track I found a few weeks back instead - it probably would've done as well as DI if not a bit better (I know about the Asian pop stigma but I think it could beat that)!
August 28, 201113 yr Author I'm glad you didn't switch as I love Drop It and wouldn't have heard it if you'd changed your entry :D
August 28, 201113 yr I guess so, Drop It will probably be a discovery for everyone, whereas my K-Pop track will pretty much definitely be known by the few of you who are into K-Pop. And that's the point of the contest deep down, to make sure as many people as possible discover your entry.
August 28, 201113 yr But that K-Pop track is amazing Liam! Who cares about a few people already knowing your entry! Ti Amo is my favourite entry to date and it was known by a few people before

And that's the point of the contest deep down, to make sure as many people as possible discover your entry. Not necessarily. I'd rather introduce an entry to 10 people who LOVE it than 15 people who quite like it! But yeah, preaching to the converted seems a bit pointless. Sending a big cheesy pop track that the indie fans don't yet know but the pop fans do seems like a bit of a pointless exercise  I just can't seem to get into K-Pop or the like sadly, I don't know why that is. It can't be the language barrier as I love loads of foreign music but none of the K-Pop/J-Pop/C-Pop BJSC entries so far have particularly wowed me production or melody wise to make me want to go and listen to other examples of the genres, Nu Abo aside, I loved that!. I also loved Juju's Live! Together but that was partly because of Delta Goodrem's feature and partly because the production was really quite different to most J-Pop that I've heard in this contest, a lot more individual sounding.
August 28, 201113 yr I'll probably send it next contest, I'm definitely going foreign language, probably Korean because my 3 top songs atm that wouldn't be veto'd are all in another language. Plus I want to show all K-Pop isn't crap, largely from what I've seen what's been sent (2NE1's two BJSC outings aside) it's been far from the best of K-Pop.
August 28, 201113 yr I'm very surprised anybody could think Drama was the sound of Kopecka trying too hard. If anything it's a proper autopilot choice - trashy singer with common first name, check; cheap dance beat, check; verses which are so basic they may as well not even exist, check; vaguely thrilling but ultimately rather tired and punch-free chorus, check... all this said it's not a bad song but absolutely nothing special either and I can't understand how it could predicted as a top 10 finisher myself.

Oh my I hope you don't have my next entry as it's a K-Pop song as well  (There could be a chance because I listen to literally 90% of all boy groups/girl groups/solo singers from Korea :o )
August 28, 201113 yr What k-pop song were you thinking of sending? :o I LOVE k-pop. Then again I must say I prefer girl singers to boys.
August 28, 201113 yr Can we even discuss our next entry here? :P Pretty sure it's not allowed lol but yes don't worry mine is a girl singer(s)
August 28, 201113 yr You can discuss what you're THINKING of sending but not if you're properly decided. Better to PM or write about it in your national thread though.
August 28, 201113 yr This thread ain't really the place, elsewhere yeah. I'd advise you keep it underwraps/in PM for another week or so though. Rich is usually the only person who knows what I'm thinking of entering.
August 28, 201113 yr I've pretty much got sorted out what I'm sending, but I'm relying on the video (which is in HQ) being put back on YouTube. :drama:

Girls' Generation, Orange Caramel, f(x) and Sistar are all really amazing K-pop acts and definitely good enough representations of the K-pop genre. There are more out there, naturally/obviously, but in essence the genre has been displayed in all its pride and glory. Edited August 28, 201113 yr by Freeze

August 28, 201113 yr If it's what I'm thinking of (the one we discussed) then :( I should've ripped the mp3 like I was going to! It is ;) I've found 'higher quality' versions of it on YT but they don't really sound quite right. But the version in the music video was great!

August 28, 201113 yr Girls' Generation were entered? They are the ultimate K-Pop act tbf  Indeed they are  I just got their Japanese album :D Someone sent Gee about 6-7 contests ago, but it flopped :(
