No, because MD is explicit and Cheers isn't?

'bast*rds'?

It's censored on the radio edit anyway. Which sounds really disjointed, but...

That's hardly a bad enough word to call it 'explicit' IMO.

I see a lot of explicit tags where I can't think of any bad enough word to warrant it. I think it's inconsistent at best, and I tend to delete them anyway.

Although, that could be me just not noticing all the lyrics. I didn't even notice any bad enough words in Man Down until you pointed it out just now and I looked up the lyrics, and thought 'how did I miss that?'.

Yeah, Cheers does sound a bit weird without bast*rds!

''Don't let the ............. get you down'' - They couldn't have replaced it with another word, could they ?

[***] 255| Hits Now! - Stereo Hearts

So Gym Class Heroes feat. Adam Lavine is looking likely to be a big hit when it's eventually released.

I think sometimes they just label an album as explicit, and then all the individual tracks from the album automatically get labelled that aswell, even if they aren't actually explicit. That's clearly not the case with Rihanna's album though.

Well we could have said that ages ago when it started to do well in the USA. I do want it to do well as it's a good song bar the chorus for obvious reasons but I'm far more interested in whatever GCH come out with for their second single - unless it features Bieber ofc.

Well, not every song that does well in the US does well in the UK. Exhibit A being Need You Now by Lady Antebellum!

Adam could have two songs in the top 10 at the same time then! :o He really deserves it. :)

haters, or something with similar connotations like that?

95% of US iTunes top ten hits will eventually break through here, EXCEPT songs by Lil Wayne, Drake, Glee Cast, any recent American Idol/The Voice contestant or any country artist. 'Tonight Tonight' and 'Good Life' are the only exceptions to that rule I can think of from this year (unless you don't count Pumped Up Kicks as having 'broke through' here)

....Which is why it's extra annoying that Cobra Starship haven't bothered with You Make Me Feel over here yet. It could be big!

I'm sure they will release it here and go at least top 10 - I think they could do a 3OH!3 where their first big US hit doesn't do that well here but their second does. (Although Starstrukk actually never was that big in the USA anyway)

Also, Hey Baby by Pitbull, Never Say Never by Justin Bieber, Blow by Ke$ha, Till the World Ends by Britney Spears, Look At Me Now by Chris Brown, Down On Me by Jeremih, No Sleep by Wiz Khalifa, The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco, Skyscraper by Demi Lavato, Lighters by Bad Meets Evil, I Wanna Go by Britney Spears, You and I by Lady Gaga, and I'm On One by DJ Khaled (although that basically counts as a Drake song tbh, so we can exclude that one if you want ) didn't do that well here. Although Lighters and You and I are only just starting their chart runs here, so they could still get big.

But yes, as a general rule it does work.

IIRC, Agnes' Release Me was tagged as explicit. But there are literally NO explicit words in it.

Justin Bieber and all Disney artists except Miley Cyrus are other exceptions I forgot to add (there are actually quite a few exceptions which pratically makes the whole point moot but if you take out all the exceptions it does mostly hold true )

Besides that, as you say Lighters/YAI could still prove to be successful, IOO as you say counts as a Drake/Lil Wayne song and it did extremely well to go as high as #78 here, Look At Me Now wasn't a single and I'd argue Down On Me does count as having broken through, at least relatively speaking considering how little airplay it received. I will agree with Hey Baby, Blow, both Britney songs, No Sleep and The Show Goes On. Maybe it's more like 80% than 95% The point is if it goes top 10 on US iTunes and is not by Lil Wayne/Drake/Glee Cast/Justin Bieber/Disney acts/AI or TV acts/country acts it can be reasonably presumed it'll break through here as well.

'Bad guys' or something could have been used as a replacement, but it doesn't sound very good with no word there. :(

Yeah. That makes more sense.

Looking at 2010 aswell, hits in the US that we would expect to also be hits in the UK but weren't:

Rihanna - Hard

Ludacris - How Low

Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be

Trey Songz - Say Aah

Trey Songz - Bottoms Up

Maybe Trey Songz should be added to the list of exceptions aswell. Even his song with Chipmunk flopped.

It seems our charts were a LOT more inline with the US last year than this year! :o

Has good life already been released? I don't think it has? Even if so, there's a B.o.B. remix that's being released that I imagine will be the version promoted/given airplay.

I agree with Bre it could be a top 10, it's really good and very UK friendly.

Hate to be pedantic, Skyscraper hasn't even gotten a release yet (shitty record company :drama:) :P But yeah, it'll flop anyway :( Even if deserves weeks at number 1!
