Sometime tomorrow. I'm tired and kinda just want to curl up and watch my Parenthood Season 1 DVD

If you could hold off on your tracklist I'd quite like to do a unseen review of your CD.

Ok, I don't mind holding it off for a bit, cheers ^_^

Again, don't bother writing an essay or anything as you've already done yours - but I would be quite intrigued to see what you make of it.

I still need to do a proper write-up of my own disc, I'll do it tonight. Didn't realise I had choir yesterday :o
As for the title, I was kind of stuck for that, so I fused the names of track 1 and 2, and there should have been a "<3" at the end of it, suggesting all the cutesy pop stuff in there, mixed with more edgy stuff. I'm glad you enjoyed it to an extent anyway, and made some discoveries. And yes Perfume wa daisuki desu

Aahh, wakarimashita! :)

I didn't just enjoy it to an extent - I really enjoyed most of it :D So thank you for putting it together and participated because otherwise I wouldn't have discovered all that I did!

No worries, I'm only about half way through responding to Silas' review so my counter review write-up will be posted sometime tomorrow evening or at least by friday morning.

Do you have choir? :o (That might explain some of the songs :kink: )

Ooh sorry! Mine has been reviewed (Jahq - Wondorous Wall Of Sound is mine :D) I have school like now, so I'll do the tracklist later!
Wondorous Wall Of Sound

Sorry that not all of my comments are that in-depth, hope that doesn't matter too much. Some tracks had odd titles and were in a different order so I've sorted by number and put those without a number at the end.

Track (1) - A very good start, my sort of track, poppy, catchy. Couldn’t enjoy it as much as I would’ve liked due to the quality, but I don’t know if that’s due to the production on the track or maybe just my silly computer. 8.5/10

Track (2) - More alternative with female vocals which are slightly haunting. I really like it but it’s just over five minutes long and I think it would work being a minute shorter as I was losing interest towards the end. 8.0/10

Track (3) - Not as keen on this one. It isn’t indie or rock, and it has female vocals, but her vocals seem shouty at times and I’m not keen on the melody at all. That said, I think it does improve and I am starting to enjoy it by the end. 5.0/10

Track (4) - Poppy, catchy and female vocals once again. I’m really enjoying this but for some reason find it slightly annoying and don’t know exactly how keen I am on the hook. 8.0/10

Track (5) - This track seems to be in both English & French. The hook is pretty good if a tad repetitive (is the chorus anything other than ‘never wanna leave you’ repeated over?), and by the end of the song it is very annoying. Other than that it makes a nice change, and I especially like the parts in French. 7.0/10

Track (6) - Parts of this track remind me of Ke$ha because it starts with a tiny amount of talking, and name checks both Facebook & Twitter. A couple of parts are also sung quite fast. The rest is pretty different though, and it’s catchy but I can’t quite tell what the title/main part of the hook is meant to be, which leads me to believe the title might not be English? 8.5/10

Track (7) - Hmm, I wouldn’t say I was bored during this track but it isn’t the sort of thing I’d rush back to, despite being very poppy. The hook just seems OK, but I got slightly more interested from the middle 8/breakdown part onwards. 7.5/10

Track (8) - Alex Metric ‘End Of The World’ as given away by the end of the track, as it seems to be a Radio 1 rip. Just the standard Alex Metric production as far as I can tell, the same sort of thing I always hear at night on R1. I did quite like it, but slightly too repetitive for my liking. 8.0/10

Track (9) - Some J-pop/K-pop track. I normally don’t care for the style and this is no different. Pleasant enough but not something I’d normally listen to out of choice. 7.0/10

Track (10) - Male vocals this time and it seems very annoying. At times I can’t understand a word of what is being said, and I’m very fed up by the time it ends. 3.5/10

Track (11) - At one point I thought this was a J-pop/K-pop song but then I listened closer and think it was just her accent, and it was actually English. Pleasant enough, just hard to understand unless you really focus. 7.0/10

Track () - The first one I actually recognise, ‘Betty’ by Brooke Fraser. Probably my favourite so far, really like the tune and it’s got an enjoyable catchy hook that makes you want to sing along. 9.0/10

Track ()() - Quite moody, rocky. I’m not sure whether I like it or not, the vocals seem OK and it isn’t horrible to listen to, but it isn’t my usual thing. 6.5/10

Track. - This seems to be country in style, and although I don’t mind the genre I normally prefer my country to have more of a pop edge (ie. the sort of thing Taylor Swift) does, so I find this a bit boring really. 5.5/10

Track_ - Very poppy, very catchy, a brilliant hook. The chorus is quite MASSIVE. Exactly my type of track. The only downside is that it is a tad repetitive, but still my favourite track up until now. 9.5/10

Traack - Now this one does seem to be in a foreign language but I’m not certain as to what it is. Easy enough to listen to, I like her vocals, and I’m not normally put off songs because they aren’t in English but I don’t think I enjoyed this as much as I could because of the language barrier. 7.5/10

Traack! - Another song that isn’t in English and I don’t know what to say really. Guess I just found it boring, didn’t draw me into paying enough attention. 5.0/10

Track - Finally we have another country song. Nothing special. I wouldn’t call it terrible, but there isn’t anything to make it stand out. 4.5/10

Average: 7/10 (rounded up)

Overall I enjoyed my CD, and my stand-outs are indicated by the higher scores. Cut out the few duff tracks and it could make the perfect 12-track album.

As far as I can tell, it has to be either GD, Liam, Freeze or Vulker? I'd be inclined to say Liam because of the country tracks and the J-pop/K-pop & Brooke Fraser, but I wouldn't have said the title or different style of track titles are really him, so maybe not? I wouldn't have thought it was GD, and I don't know a lot about the other two's musical taste so it's hard to judge.

So now here's the full tracklist n shizz...

01 M. Pokora ft. Eva Simons - Mr & Mrs Smith

He is a French singer who won a reality show, and she is the lady behind 2009 orgasm track Silly Boy. This is for M. Pokora's English album Updated, some of you have probably heard it from Eva being on it!

02 Anika Moa - Blame It On The Rain

Anika is a New Zealand singer, she is quite alternative in style. This is one of her darker songs though, if you like Ladyhawke then try Running Through The Fire by her which is great!

03 Nadine Beiler - Girl Or Boy

Now you all know the name! The Lady behind Austria's tragic ESC flop this year did an album, and this was a track. It's a generic hip-pop track with attitude, but her big voice is a bit unsuited.

04 Jeanette - Material Boy (Don't Look Back)

Now off to Germany for a single from Jeanette's album Undress To The Beat, it is very generic but I'm sure Buzzjack would take to her if she was a worldwide star!

05 Alizee - Never Leave You (Les Collines)

Yep, the lady behind Moi Lolita in 2001(?), with a song from her most recent French album. It is in both French and English but she sounds a bit... lost singing in English, so I prefer the French bits.

06 Vanessa Amorosi - Gossip

This name will be familar to most as she's been big in Australia since 2000, this was her first single earlier this year, an electro-rock number not too far from Hazardous, Off On My Kiss or Mr Mysterious!

07 SoundGirl - Hero

Now we have a flop girlband! This is set to be their new single (though it's been under 'Coming Soon' for a while...) but with Don't Know Why having flopped, I doubt this will do anything if it DOES get released.

08 Alex Metric ft. Charli XCX - End Of The World

I'd forgotten the chat at the end, sorry about that! Charli was in BJSC not too long ago with Stay Away but sadly it DNQ'd :( This isn't as strong as that but it's quite good, very Radio 1 I agree.

09 Utada Hikaru - Fight The Blues

Yep, it is J-Pop! This track is from her last Japanese album Heart Station, a very 'etheral R&B' album in feel. This is the best track on it imo. But I reccomend you maybe try her English material, much more accessible and likeable than her Japenese material. I particularly reccomend Dirty Desire, Exodus 04, You Make Me Wanna Be A Man and especially the wonderful Come Back To Me.

10 Christian Waltz - Like Suicide

Christian is a Swedish male singer, I've actually not really heard of him except this which I found on a pop blog. Complete with subtle strings, this is pretty much what you'd expect from a Swedish male.

11 2NE1 - Hate You

It's not in English, except the 'na na na na Hate You eh eh eh eh eh eh eh I'm fine living without you' It's mostly in Korean, as the band are Korean. This is a great slice of K-Pop/dance-pop from the girls!

12 Brooke Fraser - Betty

Yep, you got it! Brooke is AMAZING, so underrated! Her 3 albums (especially Flags, the latest one, which this is lifted from) are all of a high standard and she has a very unique indie/folk/pop style to her music!

13 Cassie Steele - Mr Colson

Yes she is very moody, rocky and angry! I think she was DeGrassi: The Next Generation if anyone here cares about that? I barely know what it is but it has a small following. I really like her voice, definitely suited to this kind of moody, grungy rock.

14 Gillian Welch - That's The Way That It Goes

Probably the most alternative track on the CD, this is a big change in pace with a mix of folk, bluegrass, roots and Americana. I actually discovered her through BJ, I saw a thread and just randomly Googled her name for some reason. I found her latest album, randomly selected this track and loved it, so tried the album. It was indeed very good!

15 Play - Famous

Play are a Swedish girlband who won Popstars in Sweden. They were initally pretty unsuccesful, their debut single was their only to chart in Sweden (at 14) and their albums failed to chart, though they both reached the US top 75. They split in 2005, but they came back and gained a number 1 with this in Sweden and a top 10 album with Under The Skin.

16 Cassandra Steen - Gebt Alles

The language you are hearing is German! Cassandra was the vocalist of a trio called Glashaus but went solo and now releases her own very good soul/R&B music. Sadly this, her 'comeback', has been received badly in Germany and was a relative flop, but it's the best song I've heard from her :(

17 Paulina Rubio - Me Gustas Tanto

Paulina is a Mexican singer who writes and performs largely in Spanish, but she did have a minor worldwide hit (including a top 75 UK hit) with her English single Don't Say Goodbye in 2002. This is a very recent leak and isn't the best quality, however I really like it - it's a nice change from her usual Latin music as she moves onto more dance-pop/electropop beats.

18 Kellie Pickler - Tough

And finally American Idol Season 5 sixth placer Kellie Pickler! Despite far from winning, Kellie has been quite successful, and is placed in the top 10 Idol alumni saleswise! This is her latest single, a thoroughly country girl power anthem.

-------------

So that's my CD ^_^ Glad you overall enjoyed it, I thought it'd be up your street when I saw you had it :P

And finally, tracklisting without comments:

Neither of you recognised this from Melodifestivalen this year?!

(Also it's Walz ~)

(Also it's Walz ~)

Not really, I missed that semi and only heard Loreen, Sanna, Brolle (:puke:) and (afterwards) Christian :(

I did have Walz but it looked weird  I just wasn't sure!

Girl Or Boy - trashy brilliance

Good tracklisting Liam - I have my tracklist/comments all typed up but a couple of people said that they might review it unseen so I'm holding off posting it.

The links to all of them haven't gone out yet so I suppose it's not a matter of urgency, but I guess I'll post it at some point in the next few days.

I will listen Rich but I don't think I'll be able to review until the weekend, I should be able to on Saturday though if that's okay?

It's fine Dandy*, I really appreciate you taking the time out to do it at all! I wonder what happened to Le Vulker in the end (who it's quite obvious had mine!). Who got his compilation? Pavel I assume?

It seems like it.

I'm so f***ing lazy right now but i will try to review until monday :D

Seems like there's no rush anyway as he hasn't visited this forum in ages so probably won't notice that you've reviewed it to be able to give you the tracklist :o

A Variety Of Colours Causing Frenzy Tranquility

"Track 01 || 02/10 || The start to this CD is just not to my taste in the slightest. The male vocals grate on me, the intro is odd and then the backing track becomes more of a mess of competing drums and guitars to the extent that it's just noise."

When I saw that you were the one getting my CD I knew you'd hate this one! :heehee: I was hoping that you would just at least listen to the second song and not give up instantly :P But it's an odd track, I agree. Though I'm not entirely sure what makes me like it, even if it's so short there is something weirdly captivating about this. I understand it's too indie oriented for you, but this song would surely give some of the indie fans in here a discovery. I added this song at the last minute, thinking my compilation had too little indie music. Besides I wanted the CD to start off with something completely different than the rest of the album. That unpredictablness was meant as some sort of a surprise ^_^ I found this track at random searching for somebody else on youtube. I don't know much about the band, but they're called Brand new and this song (Daisy) is actually from their fourth album.

"Track 02 || 09/10 || Such a contrast from the noise! This song is wonderfully piano lead to the extent that it sounds almost delicate at times. The female vocal compliments this perfectly and has such a beautiful tone to it. Whoever this is, I want to hear more from this voice."

Contrast indeed! :D This song is from an american 2004 Idol winner named Fantasia Barrino. "Even angels" is from her third studio album released in 2010, and I think she performed this on Oprah at some point too :o I considered this song to BJSC XXIV, but I went with Najoua Belyzel instead. In retrospect this could've done better, I guess (Even Rich liked it and gave it 8.5 iirc :kink:) I'm glad you really liked it as well though and let's hope you discover something else from her as I actually haven't yet, unfortunately =/

"Track 03 || 09/10 || Back to males and guitars this time, but from the start it's all a bit more happy and summery and upbeat. Far from the worlds best vocalist but this does have a female vocal in there. There is something about this song that endears you to it and I just want to drive around on a perfect summers day with this blasting and the windows down. This is all in spite of the lyrics being about finding a way to "let you go"."

I was afraid that you'd already know this track, so I'm glad you didn't. This is Swingfly feat. Pauline with "Little did I know." I love how it's exactly as you describe it; happy, upbeat and summery - yes, to the cruise-around-town-on-a-summer-day extent

"Track 04 || 07/10 || A guitary intro here, with a female vocal not in English. Can't quite identify the country but a safe bet would be Scandinavia. The song has a light feel to it, almost Disney. Like an early Hilary Duff track before the electro really kicked in to her material. It's lovely but underwhelming after two brilliant tracks."

This track spent five whole weeks (two weeks at #2) in my personal chart, which is actually quite a rarity for me personally. I love this song, and if it were in any of the scandinavian languages I'd be having all of their albums by now or something :D But Belanova is a mexican synth/electropop band and this song - Nada de más - is my favorite by them from what I've heard so far. It's beautifully charming in an innocently cute kind of way I think. I see what you mean when you mention Disney though; it could fit perfectly as theme song to a Disney film. I've been wanting to send this to BJSC, But I've never dared to.

"Track 05 || 08/10 || This is more what I was expecting when I saw who's CD random.org threw my way. We have a properly trashy dance backing track here with a male vocal. The bass isn't as strong as I'd like but it's highly enjoyable none the less."

I think I can see how you expected something like this from me, given I've sent acts like Manian and Tao Hypah - so yeah I do like some trashy dance tunes and this one certainly has a decent dancy backing track. I don't like the lyrics that much, I find them too generic, but everything else about is just so likable. I have no idea how I found it, really, and I don't have a clue who the people behind it are. The title says Discovibez - Seniorita (Ne!tan edit) but they're probably some random amateur producers unknown to everybody. I can barely find the song on youtube even

"Track 06 || 03/10 || Starting off with another male vocal and a building instrumental as the vocal turns to rap. But not a heavy rap and it's joined by the female chorus. It feels like a 21st rate Stuck In My Head, I'm bored. :("

I'm actually a bit surprised you didn't care for this song at all as I thought you would like it. Fearless feat. Lois - "Not too late" spent six weeks top 10 in my personal chart, almost topping it at one point. I absolutely LOVE that chorus and I may have listened to this track over a 100 times, at least! At first I didn't enjoy the rap part, but I've learned to enjoy it because it's accompanied by that magnificent chorus

"Track 07 || 08/10 || A little more country pop this time, the vocal sounds familiar to me but I can't quite put my finger on who it is. I do rather like this track though."

I think the singers voice is one of those who sounds familiar, but I don't think you know about her as she has only released one album and this song was its only single. No question you never struggled to figure out the title to this track though :heehee: It's "Hello" by Candice Hillebrand; a south african actress and singer/songwriter. The single was released in 2002, so it's almost ten years old now! It's a given the chorus is the most repetetive thing about the song, constisting of ONE single word, but that's what I like about it - there is so much storytelling in the verses and notably the power of the chorus is being empasized because of the first verse - giving way to burst out with every little feeling she has. It's simple, but effective.

"Track 08 || 09/10 || Slightly more quirky this time, but in a very good way. Another female vocal, this track makes me want to click my fingers and bop my shoulders along to it. Love it, so feel good."

Another track I've been wanting to send to BJSC, but I haven't quite had the guts. Also I've always found something else to send. This track is indeed quite feel good, light, enjoyable and cute  With lyrics like "You took my day and you flipped it around!", "forever in my heart, always on my mind", and especially the constant "I love, I love, I love, I love the way you hooold me!" skipping about in the "background" it has a genuine, easy, accessible charm factor. The female singer is Jamie Grace and the male vocal is contributed by TobyMac. Thing is, they could well be singing about another person, but I think it has a religious perspective to it - which explains why it's listed as christian pop.

"Track 09 || 04/10 || This is half good and half utter shit. The superb verses are let down by the diabolical chorus where the synths and guitars and god only knows what else are turned up to 12 and the vocals down to 3. The middle 8 is also odd."

The production could be better in the chorus, I agree, but other than that to me the chorus is amazing! It may be a bit too indie influenced for your liking, but it has crossover appeal, I think, and I like how her voice is so versatile too. Her name is Maria Timm and the song is called "Dirty place". She is danish and doesn't seem to have released that much yet. NSC provided me with this discovery and it didn't feel quite right sending it to BJSC because of that, so it was an obvious choice for my compilation.

"Track 10 || 10/10 || Oh hell the f*** YES. This is what I really wanted to find on here. This is a trashy ANTHEM, think KaraMel but more dancy and Britney (lyrically and production wise) than purepop. Bloody glorious."

Actually this was the song I just KNEW you'd love the most. it screams Silas tbh, so I'm really glad you liked it as much as I thought :D Yolanda Selini lives in Oslo and I think she's working on her debut album right now, so you do have something more to look forward to! The track is called "Play me like a DJ", which is a very standard title, but as far as norwegian, international type pop goes this is nowhere near standard - this is top notch. If Britney sang it, it would be all over the place.

"Track 11 || 02/10 || Such a let down after that last track. A faceless Kaiser Chiefs/Franz Ferdinand track."

This is by The Pusher with "Blinded by the dark". I confirmed it to a contest one time Rich was hosting, but went with something else in the end. Can't remember which contest or what I switched to, but I do love this track! They're from Sweden and I think I found this song on one of the popular blogs focusing on swedish pop music. Maybe it's a good thing I decided to change my confirmation, then :heehee:

"Track 12 || 03/10 || Two in a row. The vocalist(s?) sound Canadian like KaraMel, but this song is just not for me. I feel bored again."

A little bit more indie oriented again. This is "Sister wife" by Alex Winston, who I've noticed has been included to several other people's CDs, actually. I enjoy Velvet Elvis more, but this song is equally interesting. I did felt like sending this song to a BJSC song contest when I first heard it, but it just never happened so it became an addition to my CD instead.

"Track 13 || 07/10 || A slice of more country pop now. An improvement on the last two tracks but far from the best on the CD."

This song has a bit of an funny story behind it, as I actually found out about the band while reading through peoples national threads for any discoveries I might find amongst potential choices or past entries/artists. Triodopolis national thread gave me this one, actually! And while reading through the comments it seems a few people loved them, so I initially wanted to send this to BJSC, but in fear of DNQ'ing I never did. It's The Love Willows with "Falling faster", and to make things a bit more interesting, here are some comments people (including you!) made about them (and the return of Triodopolis) :kink:

Good news. Nicol, Saving Jane, Love Willows.

The Love Willows  First song i gave 12 points too

:w00t:

Love Willows  Deserved top5

woo, The Love Willows and Kate Voegele were epic entries :cheer:

welcome back

"Track 14 || 08/10 || A nice pop track this time, very pleasant female vocal. It bounces along quite nicely and is an easy listen."

A song by an act I've sent before to BJSC XXX - it's Black Cards! I know you hated the song I sent to that contest, so I'm glad you really liked this one. I think I like this track just as much as "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Fame", but it's twice as summery, a bit more poppy and a lot more accessible. This track is called "Dominoes". I understand it's experimental electropop and because of this song I've decided I want to buy their album when it's being released sometime before the end of the year

"Track 15 || 09/10 || I'm about 98% certain I actually know this track. Either that or I am familiar with the vocalist. I just can't put my finger on it. The track itself is a bit dancy and really good. Ooooh look at me loving a male vocal."

I am 100% certain you know of this track because Palmyra is currently sending it to the ongoing contest! Yeah it's The Potbelleez – "From the music" and I really like it too! :cheer:

"Track 16 || 07/10 || This is a J/K-pop track (guessing by Sistar given the amount of name dropping it got at the start). As asian popo goes, it's no Nu Abo but it's pretty good. Would be a 8.5 without that rent-a-mong"

Yeah, it's Sistar alright! This song is called "How dare you", and I recommend watching the music video for it as it's quite fun! ^_^ This was their third single, I think, released a while back so I didn't think most people would know about it. I wanted some k-pop in my compilation too, to reflect my tastes more, and I loved it at the time I was planning which songs were going to be in my CD.

"Track 17 || 07/10 || A track that I should dislike on paper (Male vocal + guitar) but it's rather nice."

I almost sent this to BJ Festivalen, but decided to switch to Her Majesty and the Wolves the second I saw their new music video :heehee: This singers name is Alex Goot - a guy from New York who's writing/producing his own music and uploads it on youtube. Yeah, it's another one of those, but this song really grabbed me so I wanted to showcase his music through this. It's quite decent for an "amateur", I think!

"Track 18 || 02/10 || I don't know how to describe this. Terrible might just cut it."

A track from an american pop/rock band called The Higher that I wanted to send to BJSC XX, I think. (Tom said he liked it in my national thread :kink: ) So yeah, I don't think there's anything else I need to say about it :P Other than I think it's cool, of course. Oh I sent it to NSC, Actually. It came 13th in the final ^_^

"Track 19 || 08.5/10 || This started very poorly then built up through a good verse and then just grew on me like a toxic mold from there. I really want to hate this, but it's got something that makes me love it. Don't quite know what it is. The synthesisers help, the male vocal doesn't and the female has an odd quality to her voice."

You describe how you feel about this track in a very interesting manner, and I think I can relate to that. I'm not really sure what makes me love it either. It's just something about the whole package; her voice with that particular attitude to it, the dirty lyrics, the production, the rough edges. It's basically a very.. hot.. track  I've been wanting to send this to BJSC too, but for the same reasons as mentioned earlier I haven't dared and I've always ended up finding something I want to send more. The singers name is Cosmo and the song is called Lights out. I found it in 2009 through youtube at a point in time when I was desperate to find the next big, unknown discovery to send. I found it at random, and I'm glad I did! :D

"Track 20 || 08/10 || I adore the backing track to this, it's really good. Don't think the song suits the vocalist though, I think it'd be better by a female or a male with a vocal more akin to Mans Zelmerlow. The song gets 8 because the vocal is alright and the rest of the song is properly good."

Lucas Brenton is from Australia, and he is supposedly one of few who has managed to come top 100 on the Australian iTunes solely based on self promotion. I think he is some form of internet personality of some sort and apparently unsigned! Which is a surprise given "Riders of the night" is so AMAZING! Like electropop at its sexiest, although he has been getting help from the same producer as Chris Crocker.. so.. not so sexy after all? :heehee: But yeah, I still love the track.

"Track 21 || 07/10 || Another foreign language track, very synth heavy and some lovely production on the vocals."

The third foreign language track overall comes from a finnish band called Retropop. I don't know that much about them as I found this track - "Pieni ja ihmeellinen" (translated "Small and wonderful") - through NSC when looking through some of the old contests. I think it's brilliant and beautiful in every aspect and they should have their second album released this year so I better go youtube them soon to see if any of their new material is just as good :o

"Track 22 || 04/10 || Once again a faceless 'Indie' band track, this time a poor man's Snow Patrol/Coldplay"

I don't think I agree that it's faceless, but I guess I have to admit it's somehow "a poor man's Snow Patrol/Coldplay". It seems to be his only single, but I really like it either way. His artist name is Potempa, the track is called Secret life and he's danish I believe ^_^ I've had it on my list of potential tracks to send, but tbh it was quite far down so this was it's only chance

Track 23 || 08/10 || Saving the longest track to last! There is some good production here, the guitar heavy instrumental could do with being turned down a notch through some of it, but the vocal is really the attraction for me. It's superb.

From the band's web page: "SAVE the SLOW DANCE! This Blue Heaven is on a mission to rescue the endangered slow dance from the recesses of middle school gyms and Nicholas Sparks flicks. Share the song + video with your friends and family. Let the world know you will not abide the decline of the slow dance."So this is apperently the inspiriation behind the song, and I agree it does seems like a good song to slow dance to. It is quite romantic and her voice sure is beautiful! I figured this would fit perfectly as the last song, like almost in a dancing-in-to-the-sun-set kind of way :D

"Overall

I really liked this CD and it was just about what I expected from Freeze. A mix of some trashy epicness, Asian pop with some of the generic indie I can't abide. Will be keeping it whole for now and perhaps losing a couple of tracks in the future. For sure going to be looking up a couple of artists for more though."

I'm glad to hear that you liked it, and I'm glad you will be keeping the album and youtubing some of the artists later on ^_^ It took me a while to decide which songs to put on my CD, but I colour coded the entire potential songs list judging by their genre and musical nature etc, then for maximum variation tried to have the list look as colourful as possible. It may seem a bit.. frenzy, but I certainly felt relieved, happy and at peace with my decision at the end - hence the album title :D

I will be downloading your compilation, just for that Swingfly song! Does this guy have an album I LOVED 'Me and My Drum' and I'm really liking 'Little Did I Know' from the video above! Reminds me of Hollywood Undead 'Bullet' (only with less morbid lyrics and a more poppy feel overall)

Yep he does, although I can't find a link right now. I bought it on iTunes a while back, it was only £4.49 iirc!

Seems like there's no rush anyway as he hasn't visited this forum in ages so probably won't notice that you've reviewed it to be able to give you the tracklist :o

Aaaaaah! Sorry didn't realised there was a deadline! I've been über busy with work and my new Duty Manager role! It's being mental! Even left Buzzjack Song Contest behind and haven't been listening to the UK Chart for AGES!

I have your compilation on my iPhone, I skipped it through once and it felt a bit underwheling so I never got really into it, but I promise I will fully review it SOON enough! Especially knowing it's Gooddelta's compilation! :cheer:

Thrilled to find Pavel has mine, I wonder what he thinks of the tracks. Some comments he already made here made me giggle so get on with it and make me come {over to your place! - Thanks Kesha}!

I will post the tracklist afterwards, cuz I do want to share it with the remainder of Buzzjackers!

Sorry again, and pliaze bare with me!

Aaw :(

Ok, I'll wait to see your review, hope you find a few songs that you like at least!

10 Christian Waltz - Like Suicide

Christian is a Swedish male singer, I've actually not really heard of him except this which I found on a pop blog. Complete with subtle strings, this is pretty much what you'd expect from a Swedish male.

Christian Walz? OSHT :drama: I forgot to include one of my favourite songs ever, which I sent to the Vanity Edge song contest (where it promptly bombed, so I didn't go back )

And I will definitely be downloading your comp Freeze, just for the Black Cards song, I thought it was a one off project, I can't wait for the album, which is weird since I hate Fall Out Boy

And yes my counter-review thing for you will be up by the end of the day :D

SPOILER WARNING

I've decided to post my tracklist now, before the links for all of the albums get sent out by Silas, so that people have an incentive to download it before this thread completely dies off! I obviously appreciate it if anybody wants to do a review of it, and if you still want to do it 'hidden' then ignore what I've written below for the time being. That said, it's mostly unknown artists/songs so in this case I don't think it will make a huge amount of difference - I haven't smuggled Jedward onto here unawares to try to fool people or anything  For anybody else interested in hearing stuff I'm going to post individual Youtube links to each song so feel free to comment (half of the youtube vids I posted myself, which proves that I'd planned to send a load of them to the contest!) But to Silas and Dandy* - Le Vulker's already said that he'll do a review at some point so please don't feel like you have to as you've already reviewed the ones you received, just commenting on a few of the songs below/my tracklist in general would be enough!

A Lost History

So, this compilation was 21 of my favourite songs from a shortlist of over 80 of songs that I've strongly considered sending to BJSC over the years. The title 'A Lost History' refers to the fact that anything here could have easily turned out to form part of FSR Rontvia's entry history. I absolutely adore all 21 songs here for various reasons and some of them I even did confirm for the contest, before switching my confirmation to something else.

That's nothing to be ashamed of though, of my 38 BJSC entries, a good half of those at least are comfortably amongst my absolute favourite songs of the past four years. These you could say then are the best of the rest although two or three songs here I really wish I had sent in hindsight, over the songs which I switched them for!

1. Sarah Dawn Finer – I Remember Love – This is one of my favourite piano ballads of recent years. Finishing 4th in Melodifestivalen 2007, I guess I always found it a little uninspired to use as one of my BJSC entries. I also don't think that there are many people that share my passion for the song, I suppose it's very 'X Factor', not quite as dripping in raw emotion as some piano ballads due to the gospel choir at the end, making it sound a little clichéd I suppose, but I still find it absolutely gorgeous and I've lost count of the amount of times I reserved Sarah Dawn Finer in the old reservation thread! More than ever before, I think this could be a UK hit in 2011, female piano ballads are seen quite a renaissance!

– Another ballad, except that this one is in German. The music is sort of goth rock, similar to an Evanescence ballad I suppose. The vocals are absolutely gorgeous, so crisp and clear even though I've never been a huge fan of the sound of the German language and the song is so atmospheric.

– Swedish act The Cardigans have always been one of my favourite bands, maybe the 2nd band I properly got into after The Corrs back in the late 90s, I remember buying Erase/Rewind when I was 11 and thinking how cool I was  Although they reached their peak in their 90s imo, they still had some stellar singles at the back end of their career, none more so than this absolute gem. The last minute in particular is beautiful.

– More Swedish indie, and this one actually won Unknown Pleasures on CHC a few years ago. It also features on a compilation I have called Absolute Music 59, much to my delight. Lyrically this is probably the most interesting song on this compilation and the only reason I didn't send it here is because to the people who took part in both CHC UP and BJSC, it would have looked like I was nicking it just to try and do well! I still think that this could do well in BJSC now, it's absolutely beautiful.

- Talking of beautiful, I sent this to VESC, a contest similar to BJSC that a few of us took part in for a few months, and I managed to win it with this song. I do believe that 3x triangle (Ryan) introduced me to this gorgeous song via an old CD swap and it's one of the best discoveries I've ever made through one of these types of things. Bjork-esque vocals twirl around a stunning trip-hop type beat and again, looking at some of the songs doing well in the UK charts recently, I actually think that this could be a hit here. Somebody point this in Jester's direction, I think he'd appreciate this!

– Another downbeat song, I just really like this, the breathy vocals and subtle music are really effective and the bridge especially has a great melody. It's quite twee but another song that I still love and strongly considered for BJSC.

7. Edith Backlund – What I've Become – The most recent song on here, this is only about four months old, yet another ballad (they always used to die in BJSC no matter what and there was no point sending them, hence there being so many on here). An acoustic and quiet start slowly builds and builds into a grand layered finish, it's absolutely beautiful.

– A change of pace here and it's the 2005 top 40 hit from former Ash member Charlotte Hatherley with a song that unexpectedly went to #1 in my chart! The comic book strip video, with appearances from David Walliams and Lauren Laverne was absolutely genius but the song itself is fantastic, incredibly catchy and should have been a much bigger hit.

– I know nothing about Stella apart from the fact that she's from London and I discovered this song on her MySpace. It's very Alright Still era Lily Allen with an instantly catchy chorus. Perhaps sounds a little bit dated now but I still like it a lot.

– One I considered along with Lykke Li's Sadness Is A Blessing for XXXII. That won so hopefully I made the right choice! However, this song should not be ignored – the demo for BWO's 2005 Melodifestivalen entry Gone, as much as I love them I far far prefer the female vocal on it, and love the production too, parts of the melody are very haunting. Camilla is another complete unknown and I have the MF box set bonus demo disc to thank for introducing me to this.

– And here's one I strongly considered on the month I unexpectedly won with Uh Huh Her's Not A Love Song. I was so torn as to which to pick but eventually went with that over this Ryan Tedder-esque mid-tempo song from Swedish artist Janet, formerly of girlband Play. I do think that this would have done quite well as well, but not sure if it was a winner...

– I think BJSC VIII and this song was the first time I ever changed my confirmation. Originally going with this Norwegian #1 single from 1999, an early Stargate production which has close similarities to a later production of theirs, Blue's All Rise, this song is a fusion of rap verses and a female chorus and I absolutely adore the melody. I changed it to Thermostatic's Driving which didn't exactly light up the scoreboard, but I reckon this would have probably done even worse!

- Topping my list of 'entries I regret never sending', it's German language pop/R&B song Stadt, a massive hit in Germany two years ago, it quickly rose to the top of my personal chart and I confirmed it for BJSCXXI, before switching to Fabio Lendrum at the last minute. I still love Don't Wait For Me but I far prefer this and it would have made for a much more interesting entry I think. And how much does the beat of this sound like Michael Jackson's They Don't Care About Us?

– Moving into pure pop territory with this one, and one which I'm shocked never turned up in the contest. Voe is a famous Norwegian blogger and this is a brilliant pop song. Her vocals are a bit questionable on the verses but the chorus is heaven, like a mix of something from the first Veronicas album and the excellent City Chix – All About You, which was in the UK ESC national final in 2006.

– Post shakeup Pipettes have left me a bit cold in general, I adored the retro pop sound of their debut album, the short to the point songs and I loved their image. Two of the members left, somebody else joined, they became a duo and put out a subpar 80s throwback album last year. Not on the album, criminally, was this b-side which appeared on the Stop The Music EP. One of the out and out poppiest and most frantic things they've done, it's a great bridge between their old sound and new sound, and it became their third top three hit in my chart last year, surprising considering how much I'd gone off them but it shows how much I love this song!

– Another from Melodifestivalen 2007, surely one of the best ever year's for the contest in terms of quality and diversity. The final was absolutely top quality and the top five were all amazing but it's worth remembering some of the great songs that fell in the semis. One of those was the girlband Cosmo4 with the poptastic What's Your Name. Sadly, they weren't quite so great live but the studio version is pretty damn brilliant. It even has a whistling hook which seems so popular these days, perhaps The Saturdays should cover it and release it as a single! One for Silas to listen to for sure.

17. Electric Valentine - A Night With You – Some top quality electropop now and one which I ditched in the end in favour of I'm Going For Your Brother, that was a good switch as that's one of my all time favourite entries  This is still brilliant though with a suitably catchy chorus.

18. Name The Pet - American Boys – Swedish pop with an indie/electro touch now, this girl did a collaboration called Falling with The Sound of Arrows which piqued my interest initially. I slightly prefer this though, again it's got a great hook and I adore the production as well.

19. Annie - Me Plus One – The terminally underrated Norwegian popstar Annie had a couple of minor hits here in the mid 00s, my favourite being Heartbeat. This song was from her album Anniemal and is pop perfection, it even appeared on that one off Popjustice compilation album, great choice! I can't fathom why she's never had any major success anywhere, not even in BJSC :drama: Even Girls Aloud did backing vocals for one of her songs a few weeks ago!

20. West End Girls with Magnus Carlson - What Have I Done to Deserve This? - Another song I considered for BJSC VIII, West End Girls were a female duo, Pet Shop Boys tribute act who actually had a fair bit of success in their native Sweden. My favourite single of theirs was this, although it doesn't match the original, which is probably why I didn't send it in the end. A genius idea for a tribute act though!

– And finally, some Finnish language dance music, which I believe Ghosty introduced me to years ago. This is a very powerful dance song with a thundering chorus not at all hindered by being in a language I don't know a single word of!
