LOON POST: Both the first two Corrs albums. Talk On Corners took almost a year to reach #1, and it was three years before Forgiven Not Forgotten reached it's #2 peak and started shifting serious numbers.

Christina Aguilera's Stripped only went low top 20 IIRC when 'Dirrty' was released and was initially seen as a flop but in 2003 when 'Beautiful' was released, it repeaked at #2 and went on to sell over 2 million copies in the UK alone.

In terms of singles, obviously the likes of 'I Need A Dollar', 'I'm Yours' and 'Sweet About Me'.

Don't Stop Believin' and Make You Feel My Love were not re-released. They just re-peaked due to blanket exposure which happened to be a while after their release.

I meant to put released, but was distracted and started the word again.

If you had read the entire post you probaby would have been able to guess as the following statement was 'they went dorment' <_<

Oh, I thought you were just one of those people that call any new chart run a 're-release'.

I suppose DSB technically was re-released when it was made available to download though.

Ellie Goulding's album didn't REALLY take off until the re-release.

Very true, 1-16 drop in the second week, then only selling 200k until the re-release, now she's sold 640,000 :) Probably will go over 700,000 if she new album does well.

The Saturdays - Chasing Lights

Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday

Alicia Keys - Songs In A Minor

Alicia Keys - The Element of Freedom

Rihanna - Rated R

Lily Allen - Not Fair

Nicki Minaj - Super Bass

I came to this thread to say this! Unfair. But yeah it was a flop at first but it kept re-entering the top 40 when Moment 4 Life, Girls Fall Like Dominos and Super Bass were hanging around.

I can't believe it took Super Bass to get the album popular tbh -_- never liked that song - she's had much better.
It's better than every single from Pink Friday except Massive Attack (WE WILL NOT FORGET etc) though. Miles better than tripe like Moment 4 Life and Fly.
In the US, it was Moment 4 Life that got the album to finally climb to #1 there. So it was a fantastic single choice in that respect.
Oh I don't argue that it wasn't a good choice! How it took off I don't know but looking back it was a good decision. It's still a terrible, terrible song though.
Robbie Williams life through a lenz album, didnt kick of at all until angels became a hit. The album was released early october 2007 and didnt make the top 10 until jan 98 before finally going to number 1 in april 98.
We may be able to add Goo Goo Dolls - Iris to this as well, it's at 3 on iTunes thanks to Frankie Cocozza's (crap) performance at X-Factor bootcamp!

Radiohead's Creep wasn't a hit first time round. It then did well on US college radio so got a re-release over here and reached the top ten. My copy of the original release is worth a lot more than I paid for it. :D

Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls was also only a hit after it was re-released.

So that's two bands who went on to enjoy huge success whose careers came close to not getting off the ground.
