I really really really was expecting this to be poor after seeing the judging panel. An American, An Irishman and A Welshman sounds like the start of a bad joke and then you have Jessie J who has the likeability of famine.

HOWEVER. I was rather shocked to find that [1] Tom Jones had an accent that didn't make me want to shoot him, then me, in the face. Rare for someone on TV from Wales as the people with the most irritating voice possible seem to break through (See Gavin & Stacy) [2] Danny and will.I.am were no where near as bland and twaty as I was anticipating them to be. [3]Jessie J apparently has a likeable side, WHO KNEW? [4] The banter was quite amusing, I found myself laughing quite a bit and all of them were witty and amusing at various points. More than the last season of the X Factor when apart from some hilar moments from Tulisa and Gary it was all about KRO.

The actual talent was good and it makes a nice change not to see people ritually humiliated on live TV.

I really love this show, I think it's very fresh and new. The judges are great and actually do constructive criticism unlike the X Factor when any half decent singer will make it through. I also loved the banter between the judges

I'm not saying I hate The X Factor (because I really do love that show) but it's nice to have a different format. Plus there's the bonus of no ad breaks too. I've never seen the American version so I can't compare but I imagine that's just as good.

I'm not sure I like the concept of the show

Shansel for example was amazing, but the judges are more concerned about not going over 10 than turning around for the best singers

Surely that would put the singers towards the end of the auditions at a disadvantage ?

This is pretty much my only qualm with the format tbh, at the end of the US one I was there shouting at the screen with some of the talent they let go!

Anyway, tonight was good again! I really loved Frances, probably my favourite so far  Jessie is begining to really irritate me though, at times I just wish she would shut up.

Frankly that was a poor show, the best was saved till last (plus Frances), and why did he choose Jessie as his coach left me a bit baffled, would have been better with Tom.

Some of the contestants do know which judge they want once they hit the button, I pretty much guessed all the winners tonight which judge would picked them apart from the last contestant.

Deniece Williams who sang Fighter (Five Star), somehow just does it cut it anymore, she probably drop out at the early stages of the live shows.

The idea, as well as picking the best singers is to pick a good singer who will fit into the current music climate, but is a little bit different. The opera girl is nothing like what's popular or current, so it would've been too difficult to get her to connect with the TA of the show.

My favourites were the girl who sung "Where is the Love?", the guy who did "The Man who Can't be Moved" and the lady at the end who sang "Fighter". I didn't get the love for the guy at the beginning who sung "Dynamite" - I think he was out of tune for a large part of the performance

EDIT: Also, why were the couple allowed to audition as a duo?! I thought the show was supposed to be about solo artists.

EDIT2: I knew I recognised "Dynamite" guy! He auditioned for X Factor last year to "OMG" and got to bootcamp.

I was in the same boat as the judges for Heshima (the guy who sang Dynamite) as I was in the kitchen at the time but could hear the TV from in there, I cringed listening to his voice and when I walked in and saw all 4 had turned round I was like 'seriously? Woah...'

Also, on your point about the duo, acts can audition as either a solo artist or a duo, groups aren't allowed though.

Vince Kidd was bloody amazing. Definite favourite so far for me!

Shansel was good, but sounded very warbly and underdeveloped in that field to me, coupled with Theo's point, I can see why she didn't get through

apart from the end girl and guy (not the duet, the last of the respective sexes :P ) I wasn't really crazy about anyone tonight

I really liked Frances, probably my favourite contestant so far! Vince and the guy who did The Man Who Can't Be Moved were both great aswell.

Vince Kidd already has a video up on SBTV:

Weirdly Vanessa from The Saturdays is sat behind him

Kids version Season 2 - Holland

Shows how popular this show really is - Simon Cowell eat your heart out!!!

Speaking of its popularity, here's the ratings for this week (and BGT's):

Both The Voice UK and Britain's Got Talent managed to build on their respective launches in the ratings last night (March 31).

On BBC One from 7pm, The Voice climbed to an average of 9m (39.3%), reaching a peak of over 10m between 7.45pm and 8pm.

Britain's Got Talent rose even further, with 10.28m (41.3%) tuning in from 8pm and over 11m watching at its peak. A further 548k (2.4%) caught the talent show on ITV1 +1.

But The Voice UK (9.8m/39%) overpowered Britain's Got Talent (7m/27.8%) again when they clashed between 8pm and 8.20pm, increasing its head-to-head lead to 2.8m from 2.2m last week.

Great to see that it's increased the gap during the overlap! :D

Isn't the whole premise of the Voice that the mentors actually work closely with the contestants to iron out their faults? Some of the contests sounded flat / out of tune, but definitely had huge potential in their voices. I've not watched te US or Dutch format of the show, but the judges on this show look like they will actually work closely with the contestants to shape the acts they pick. The X Factor judging format is largely for sure. I'm not even sure how much impact the judges have in them song choices aside.

I think it's great entertainment. Might not be as interesting in the Live Shows or future rounds, but the blind auditions are good. More entertaining than the X Factor auditions.

They're not "judges" apparently. They are actually "coaches" and from what I gather they will be working very closely with their acts to help them iron out the creases and fix them up a little bit. I hope Jessie somehow manages to make Vince more likeable. He's got a good voice (very Daniel Merriweather/Maverick Sabre) but my God he's easily one of the most unlikeable characters I think I've seen on a talent show. My favourite of the night was the guy who sang 'I'm Yours'. I also liked the last guy who sang 'Superstition'.

Fantastic to see this beat BGT for the second week (and extend it's lead!) in the head to head slot!

Anyway, I thought I could see Bo Bruce a couple of times tonight in the "coming soon" sort of sections! She was on Channel 4's "unsigned" thing a couple of years ago. She has a unique voice and I'm pleased to see that she seemed to have trouble "choosing" between the judges. Hopefully she goes far!

The helpers for the battle rounds (basically the same thing as when they have helpers on Judge's Houses) have been revealed, the earlier reports of Natalia Kills, Lianne La Havas etc. were wrong it seems.

Jessie J - Ana Matronic

Danny O'Donoghue - Paloma Faith

Will.I.AM - Dante Santiago

Tom Jones - Cerys Matthews

Paloma is absolutely hilarious, so should be great. Cerys was a bore on I'm a Celebrity however long ago, and I've not idea who the other two are :P
