This will come down to the wire I think, but if STEPS are pulling away from Adele, then that makes me happy that they really should go top 3 whatever the outcome. I think STEPS will have the Saturday sales edge at least on Evanescence. And they have the TV show tonight and Lorraine, wish they had something else as well

Wednesday Update Top 40 Only

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Albums

11 Bjork

This can't be happening. CLEAR OFF CLIFF

Hmm, Evanescence still pulling away from Adele makes me think they might cling on but if Steps have extra promotion there's no chance. And who said next week's albums sales would be even lower? there's two albums out that could do close to 100,000...

Kasabian and You Me At Six update please!

So a re-release of a greatest hits album, released 10 years , comprised almost entirely of covers, with the only "new" track being a cover of an ABBA song, is threatening to go to Number 1 on the album chart.

Have we not suffered enough?

The album isn't "almost entirely of covers" - I counted 6 out of 20 tracks (I guess it's 8 if you think Stomp is a sort of cover and Deeper Shade of Blue is a cover of Tina Cousins but I'm not sure if that was actually released?)

Kasabian 6+6

UMe@6 times Kasabian's total by 2 :P :D

Kasabian that's alright, it's falling by default really and should climb at least above Bjork by Sunday.

YMA6... well, it's doing better than "Hold Me Down" at least  it would have broken Xtina's record had it held on last week!

Odd that Charlene is still 14 yet 6 on itunes  and Will Young - Jealousy up 2 from yesterday considering the fact it was out of the top 40 of itunes by midnight. Of course there must be other sites to do with Jealousy being bumped up but both still seem weird. Hoping MLJ can hold 2 although GCH/Adam wouldn't be bad if that overtook. Pleasing to see EOG, FY plus some others back in the top 40. Hopefully The Calling & M5 - SWBL will top 40 Sunday :D

Why do you keep capitalising 'Steps'? It makes it look like you're putting loads of emphasis on their name which makes your sentences look weird. Unless you're just really surprised at their success?

Interesting that Steps have pulled away from Adele, they actually could be #1, I didn't know they had more promo lined up for the week. Adele will be back at #2 though, I can't see Evanescence staying ahead.

Good to see James Morrison back in the top 5 today. 'I Won't Let You Go' is also holding up very nicely, I expected it to have a similar chart run to 'You Make It Real' but it's looking at a fourth week top 15 (YMIR only had 2 and only one week top 10) :D Hopefully IWLYG can become at least his third highest seller, if not his second - You Give Me Something is a bigger hit than I Won't Let You Go but since it was released when sales were in a pit I wouldn't be surprised if IWLYG outsells it. It obviously won't get anywhere near 'Broken Strings' though unfortunately :(

Not surprised at Cliff Richard being top 10 today, he always climbs through the week (IIRC 'Bold As Brass' started the week low top 10 and ended up top 3, or am I making that up?) - this seems to be a bit of a phenomenon with old acts, I presume older people just generally buy albums later in the week for some reason. I suspect Cliff will end the week at about #8.

On the singles front, brilliant to see Fix You still at #27 today. Should be top 40 this week then (it's dropped out of the top 40 on iTunes now but it's just been overtaken by a bunch of 59p stuff - including Smells Like Teen Spirit ). Shame to see 'The A Team' down on yesterday but I think it should hold onto #7 unless Charlene also overtakes him. And fingers crossed he can stay top 10 next week as well. 'Lego House' in the top 40 too :D

No Nero in the top 40 again, surely they'll show up tomorrow? Unless some of the 59p stuff goes top 40 - The Calling, Kanye West/Dwele and Katy Perry could be top 40 again this week, Maroon 5 - SWBL could be as well unfortunately. Would be BRILLIANT to see Nirvana in the top 40 again with Smells Like Teen Spirit but I highly doubt it.

Charlene Soraia is 11 with WYWG. You can see on the chart update online :D So that 14 again today must be an error -_-

The artist update says James Morrison is #14 anyway, so one of them had to be wrong :P

Go Steps. Don;t think i'll be buying it though, I have all the songs.

Didn't stop Take Thats GH selling millions even though it was the same

I think it's something I've always done with them, not sure why, just their name lends very well to doing it. I'll stop if you want.

Anyway, If Steps do get to #1 with this album. Does anyone know if they would be the first British Boy/Girl group to have #1 albums in 3 consecutive decades?

#11

I find it bizarre how well Steps are doing, beyond the obvious nostalgia sales!

Would be good if Belle & Sebastian could magically beat them to #1, recalling the greatest moment in BRITs history when they beat them to 'Best Newcomer' at the BRITs in 1999. :D

Yes indeed- in terms of British Mixed sex group- non british would be, ironically, ABBA (70s, 80s and 90s- and indeed 00s too)

Failing to see any irony here.

While im delighted Steps are pulling a little but away from Adele and have closed the gap between evanesence by around 250 i still think the top 3 could go eitherway between the three acts as the sales are very close. The sales though in the top 3 are very low and i thought they might have been a little higher, i think steps sales are probably still fan base sales, hopefully the promo they have lined up during the week will get them the number 1.

Speaking of fan base purchases i think Bjork could well be in that category and i can see the album slipping further in each of the updates throughout the week, hopefully she can hold top 20 though.

I deally i would like the top 3 on sunday to be

01 Steps

02 Evanescence

03 Adele.

I see the Joe McElderry re climbing during the week effect is slowing down as he has only climbed 1 place, so he will probably be around top 25 on sunday.

Matt Cardle unfortunatly i think will lose his top 5 position on sunday and i can see him ending up #7 on sunday, i really hope his album sells well and goes number 1 as otherwise he could be in danger unless the 2nd single really does the business for him.

Im disapointed with the bad meets evil ft bruno mars drop, but at least it went top 10 at the same time.

I think it's hilarious how all of Steps fans are relying on promo to get the No. 1 spot, like their own TV show! Yet Evanescence are No. 1 with ZERO promotion outside of their fanbase.

If Evanescence appeared on bloody Lorraine on Friday and had their own TV show, you can guarantee they'd get No. 1. But of course they wouldn't do that, as it isn't very rock n' roll ;)
