October 12, 201114 yr I think it's hilarious how all of Steps fans are relying on promo to get the No. 1 spot, like their own TV show! Yet Evanescence are No. 1 with ZERO promotion outside of their fanbase. If Evanescence appeared on bloody Lorraine on Friday and had their own TV show, you can guarantee they'd get No. 1. But of course they wouldn't do that, as it isn't very rock n' roll ;) whats even more hilarious is how evanescence are struggling to get to number one with an album of NEW material. when the steps album is just a rehash of the gold album which sold over a million ten years ago. itd be sweet to see steps get the number one album but neither is going to sell massively in the long run. its a shame evanescence didnt come back with a better lead single

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't think they'd be anywhere near the top, I was thinking Top 10 at best, but clearly there is still a demand for them. Either way, it goes once again to show all those people proclaiming the death of rock and metal music couldn't be any more wrong. Zero promotion and seemingly guaranteed a Top 3 finish after 5 years in the wilderness is a very impressive stat.

That makes it distinctly non-ironic. Edited October 12, 201114 yr by Bré

And Evanescence prior to this era have always been pretty well-backed by radio, Slipknot (using them as an example as they're reportedly recording a new album soon) never have and would still probably fly to #1 unless they got stuck behind a big release. Rock and metal bands will always be able to rely on their core support at least on the albums front, seemingly the only ones who'll be able to sell singles in the future are those with blanket media backing such as Paramore.

The point trying to be made was that chart positions ARE important in some genres when the loyalty of a fanbase is in question... Evanescence surely knew their new album wouldn't be as big a hit as "Fallen" but the fact they're ahead in the midweeks proves their core support has remained faithful and gone out to buy it this week.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well Evanescence seem to be doing worldwide without any promotion or hype. No one seems to know they have a new album out. If they can get a pop hit single from this album, I can see it doing very well. Lost in Paradise seems to be a popular song on several iTunes charts worldwide. It's number 31 on US iTunes at the moment. Maybe they should choose it as the second single. It's got "My Immortal" written all over it.
October 12, 201114 yr POOR Moves Like Jaggar- song was one mo fo of a fighter (and shoulda been #1 for even just a damn week- but truly had the worst luck of ANY song in recent memory) but looks like its just not meant to ever get #1. Its SOO much better than Rihannas song ! :/ Edited October 12, 201114 yr by JK1

Its SOO much better than Rihannas song ! :/ Unlucky chart position wise but by the weekend they'll have cleared 600k in total. Not bad for a track still in the top 3. I did want Maroon 5 to get a UK no.1 though and this song was probably their last chance.
October 12, 201114 yr Then would one not expect Steps to repeat their success? That makes it distinctly non-ironic. Abba may have been the template for success but there is one major difference. Abba were a great pop group. Steps weren't.
October 12, 201114 yr Not surprised at Cliff Richard being top 10 today, he always climbs through the week (IIRC 'Bold As Brass' started the week low top 10 and ended up top 3, or am I making that up?) - this seems to be a bit of a phenomenon with old acts, I presume older people just generally buy albums later in the week for some reason. I suspect Cliff will end the week at about #8. I think it's just a case of older people generally not following the release schedule. A lot of people wouldn't necessarily know an album is out until they see it and don't make a point of checking out the new releases on a Monday.

Does anyone really follow the release schedule though?
October 13, 201114 yr i just hope whoever gets number one this week doesnt do a 'bionic' style fall. i fear if its evanescence they certainly run that risk
October 13, 201114 yr Author Surprised to see Evanescence still at #1, surely its going to drop by Saturday. Hardly any movement in the top 20 singles, the only changes are Gym Class Heroes at #3 now, and Charlene inside the top 10.

October 13, 201114 yr Double Adam in the top 3 is good for me ! Who is this Charlene Soraia girl though ? I never heard of her...
October 13, 201114 yr Stores (online and high street) really need to get enough stock of Steps in to meet the demand...Amazon apparently only have 1 copy left in stock of the non DVD version which seems mad considering it's one of the biggest releases of the week...
