October 14, 201114 yr It MUST be in the bag now surely?! :o :o :o :o :o Fabby :) :D :D :D :D I'm so excited right now, brings back memories of my teenage days following the fab five :)I think there's one thing we've learnt this year and it's never to under estimate Adele's "weekend effect". And considering the theme on XF this week, what's the betting someone will perform 'Someone Like You' or 'Turning Tables' :nocheer: I'm not massively huge on Steps, but they WERE a part of my childhood so I can't say I'm not happy about the success! I have a slight feeling they could actually increase in sales next week. Obviously not to the dizzying heights of Noel Gallagher or Matt Cardle's levels. But pushing for 40k, is that too much to ask? :P
October 14, 201114 yr It depends on whether or not Ticketmaster is an OCC-registered store for album sales which I doubt it is. The ticketmaster album thing, a) you had to buy the album as an mp3 in addition to the tickets if you wanted pre-sale tickets and b) I think I read somewhere that it was being supported by amazon, where that was those, I can't remember

But pushing for 40k, is that too much to ask? :P I don't think X Factor is gonna help Adele suddenly boost over 4,000 album sales, especially as they would all have to be done as downloads, which means it would benefit her singles more than album sales. She does have a general weekend effect though, which could help her get pass Evanescence, I think with the buzz surrounding Steps and their tour (they added another 02 date which already looks like its selling out), could help with people buying the album to get in the mood for the tour, so to speak (not sure if I'm wording that right so I hope you know what I mean)
October 14, 201114 yr Disappointed for Evanescence missing out on the top spot. Goes to show that you really can buy a No. 1 with promotion and mass marketing. Evanescence have had LITERALLY zero promotion in this country and yet are only a few thousand copies behind Steps - they would have slaughtered them if they'd had the same sort of media exposure. Regardless of how much promotion and mass marketing you do, you will only get to #1 if people actually *like* your music enough to buy it. Steps' album isn't even an album of new material and they already have a GH with an almost identical tracklisting which most of their fans will surely already own, they're doing bloody well regardless of promotion. And Evanescence are doing bloody well too.
October 14, 201114 yr So it looks like Maroon 5 will get a record equaling 7 consecutive weeks at #2... behind 6 different records. Quite a historic chart, considering the only other time it was achieved was 1994.

Interesting that it's happening at a time where Foster The People could be doing the same thing but with #3 in the USA - they've just held #3 for a seventh week, the record (for a #3 peaker at least) is 11 weeks.

And Evanescence are doing bloody well too. Plenty of people clearly like Evanescence music enough to buy it - Fallen has sold 15 million copies worldwide, and The Open Door sold a further 6 million. Although it's interesting that The Open Door only peaked at No. 2 in the UK charts as well. Evanescence are expected to sell over 110,000 copies in the US this week, which will probably get them the No. 1 album. Mercifully, no-one listens to Steps in the USA - or in fact most places apart from the UK and Ireland.

Evanescence clearly have the latter (at least within their dedicated fanbase) but Steps have both which is why they're ahead. (This is not me being a Steps loon as I hate both Steps and Evanescence and am rooting for Adele to be #1 but I doubt she'll close the 4k gap especially if Steps have more promotion) Edited October 14, 201114 yr by Bré
October 14, 201114 yr fantastic that steps are number one. evanescence are being saved from a massive drop from number one next week, but im glad they are still exceeding the expectations of where i thought they would chart

Eugh, yet another "real music" luvvie who clearly can't stand the fact that Steps are outselling a band that pen their own stuff ... with an identikit album to their million seller "Gold".
October 14, 201114 yr Steps going to No 1 today actually made me buy a ticket for April 20. I was never a fan of them, but I am suddenly obsessed with them for some bizarre reason. I love successful comebacks (and Reunion is a great show)
October 14, 201114 yr Im thrilled Steps are number 1, i really hope they stay there aswell, i never in a million years thought steps would be back inthe charts again never mind number 1.

But as I said, it's all a moot point anyway, as Evanescence will easily outsell them worldwide.
October 14, 201114 yr YEEEEESSSSS - Steps #1, I knew they could do it! Also, I have tickets to the tour :w00t:
October 14, 201114 yr The only other factor I can see is how the OCC are factoring in Steps' pre-sale mp3 album when tickets for their tour is purchases - is this a valid sale? Has it already been added to the above sales? Now the tickets are on general sale as of 9am today, the pre-sale mp3 album is no longer an option when purchasing tickets so if the sales of that WERE valid and WERE added into the Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri mids, then their daily sale is going to drop as a result today/tomorrow which COULD reverse the trend above. Although its helped alot i think people are over estimating the sales generated by Ticketmaster - It been #1 on iTunes since late Tuesday, And at various points in the week has been out of stock at Amazon, Play and HMV - My local Tesco and Morrisons had sold out today and on Thursday Asda only had 1 on display.

I agree with this but don't want to overestimate its chances - it sometimes helps to err on the cautious side. I've not been in any supermarkets this week so if this picture is replicated across the board then that bodes well for sales in future weeks ... I hope that they hold strong not just next week (with the last episode of the TV show being aired) but continue towards Xmas. Being realistic though, beyond the TV show next Wednesday, they don't have any other promotion lined up, and I can't see Radio/TV playing any of their tracks, so the album is almost certain to drop down the charts. Hopefully the drop isn't too astronomical; and even if it is, I go back to gooddelta's posts from this week - a month/year/10years ago, I would never have predicted Steps would have a #1 album again, so I don't really care if it goes 1-OUT after this week.
October 14, 201114 yr The ticketmaster album thing, a) you had to buy the album as an mp3 in addition to the tickets if you wanted pre-sale tickets and b) I think I read somewhere that it was being supported by amazon, where that was those, I can't remember That's definitely wrong; I just got my download link from the pre-order ticket I purchased and 100% isn't Amazon. I got a link from http://www.myplaydirect.com/steps/orders/7CEFAC26FF/embed Definitley not Amazon. I did get re-routed through SonyBMG so that may perhaps make the pre-sales count towards the official charts. Fyi I purchased my ticket on Wednesday about 8pm so all the pre-sale tickets that included the download may not actually get downloaded prior to the cut-off point tomorrow evening, if people are just receiving their link now.
