October 12, 201113 yr You can't hate Hollaback Girl, surely!?!?! :o It's EPIC! Although I can't mention it, because a lot of people actually do hate this in real life (and I assume on here aswell, since this song isn't the sort of thing that'd be liked on here (again, no melody)). Oh yes I can
October 12, 201113 yr Author I find it very amusing that people are suggesting songs that practically no one has heard (Titanium, Dancing on My Own) as universally liked I thought this would be a thread of the objectively best songs throughout the rock era, not the most harmless new dance tracks. Surely, some of newer tracks will become classics and universally liked songs but it takes at least a couple years. I'd say Gaga's Bad Romance is about to become valid as we speak. Only one has said anything about The Beatles... Hey Jude and Eleanor Rigby must be there.. And also Unchained Melody is a song nobody has ever said a bad word about. Nothing Compares 2 U, a cover though... There are loads. Torn is a good one from the 90s even though it's a cover as well. I'm not a big Beatles fan, but I can appreciate that songs like Eleanor Rigby are very good. Hey Jude pisses me off now though, every time Paul McCartney comes on stage at some big event... It's unfortunate for Bad Romance that it's approaching 'classic' status just as GaGa's suffering a bit of a backlash. Plus there'll always be some gruff men uncomfortable in their sexuality to the degree they'll pretend to hate it. Unchained Melody has been tainted by endless covers, Nothing Compares 2 U is genius but I still find it hard to look beyond Joy Division. I'm yet to meet someone of any musical preference that doesn't at least respect Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Well, I was agreeing with a lot of the rock ones, so I thought I'd try and think of ones from other genres. :P More serious dance: William Orbit's Barber's Adagio For Strings? And Eiffel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee)? Particularly the latter has a lot of scope to be hated, but I've never ever seen anyone say a bad word about it.

I'd agree with Hey Jude and Torn though. (I'm not sure I've even heard Eleanor Rigby! I probably have but I can't recall anything about it)
October 12, 201113 yr Of dance tracks I'd pick Groovejet, Children and Missing. Children definitely (although people who dislike instrumentals may not like it), not sure about the other two. Surely quite a few of Daft Punk's singles come close to universally liked as well?
October 12, 201113 yr ^ I'd definitely say One More Time would fall into that - I'd say Blue Monday is the most universally acclaimed dance/experimental track (although it depends if you class it as dance) some other tracks: Imagine (has this REALLY not been mentioned yet?! :o ), Angels (although the radio has killed this a bit), also I'd say Mr Blue Sky & Wuthering Heights Edited October 12, 201113 yr by C.W
October 12, 201113 yr Groovejet definitely isn't one, a lot of people on this board seem to dislike it. I can't fathom why because it really is fantastic.
October 12, 201113 yr Around the World or Da Funk perhaps.. One More Time just rehashed Modjo's Lady imo.
October 12, 201113 yr I like all of their songs but can't really think their music is universally liked in sense that it's unoffensive to everyone. Of course most dance fans adore them. Discovery is a funny album...half of it is brilliant, half pretty much useless.

I was thinking about The Beatles, but the earlier stuff compared to the more, how should I put it, 'progressive' material you might find on Sgt. Pepper. I mean surely just about everybody likes 'She Loves You'.

Sorry, just my opinion. That said, I think it probably will become a "classic" eventually though, because her fans talk about it all the time, non-stop, and she has a lot of fans, so people won't be able to forget it. Also, I wouldn't say she's suffering a backlash. It seems like a backlash compared to how much everybody loved her in 2009, but really now she's still the most loved pop star in the world easily. The song is more acclaimed than JUST her fanbase, and it'll rightfully become a classic as it's an absolute anthem.

I was half joking, I wasn't saying everyone who hated "Bad Romance" was a gruff man uncomfortable in their sexuality - that's kind of obvious, surely - but I was just saying that those people DO exist. So in effect, I was just generalising one group of people who don't like it. I think it's on its way to classic status, it's almost two years old now although it depends what your definition of classic is. And "people like you" as in what? I think I'm fairly atypical to most people who like "Bad Romance" to be frank...

October 12, 201113 yr You are incredibly annoying. Sorry for being such a git. But you get my point? So in effect, I was just generalising one group of people who don't like it. I think I'm fairly atypical to most people who like "Bad Romance" to be frank... Yes, you're right. There are probably people out there like that to be fair. By "people like you", I meant there's a lot of people who go around saying over the top praise for Lady Gaga, and it's making people hate her. The only reason there was such a big deal made over Born This Way/Express Yourself was because of her fans that go around annoying everybody saying how original she is constantly. Other pop stars can rip off songs easily without any backlash, because their fans don't behave like that. I think Bad Romance is too recent to be considered a classic. For example, Heart FM have only just removed it from their playlist. But I think it will become a classic, for the reasons I stated. Edited October 12, 201113 yr by Eric_Blob
