October 21, 201113 yr The Metro says that it will be revealed on the 18th but I'm sure it will be the 25th like it was in 1994 and 2005. The 25th - if it were the 18th, you'd have sales from as early as two weeks before Christmas counting towards the Christmas charts.
October 21, 201113 yr The Metro says that it will be revealed on the 18th but I'm sure it will be the 25th like it was in 1994 and 2005. Then 'The Metro' is wrong - it will be the chart announced on 25/12. Just check when the XF Final is - there's no way Cowell would let the Winner's song be released on the 'wrong' week!
October 21, 201113 yr Yeah - as mentioned above - it'll be the 25th, the first chart to be broadcast on Christmas Day was in 1994 when Pariah Scary was at #2 and "Whatever" by Oasis was the highest new entry at No. 3. The #1 was "Stay Another Day". Given they f**ked up the Boxing Day chart last year (irrelevant because it is always a DEAD chart), I hope they will be more on the ball this year.
October 21, 201113 yr The X Factor final is apparently on the 11th of December, but I somehow doubt that. There are 11 contestants still in so assuming a final of 3 there should be 9 more shows, on 22/23 Oct, 29/30 Oct, 5/6 Nov, 12/13 Nov, 19/20 Nov, 26/27 Nov, 3/4 Dec, 10/11 Dec and the final on 17/18 Dec, in time for Xmas week. It's possible it could be a final of 4 like it was last year but I don't see why they'd do that if it harms their chance of Christmas #1... if it really is released the previous week then Nirvana will beat XF to the Christmas #1 fairly easily IMO. With Christmas Day on a Sunday this year, is that likely to cause the Xmas classics to chart higher or lower? The Christmas week covers sales in the week leading up to Christmas excluding Christmas day which logically should capture a pretty high number of the sales of the Xmas classics. I just realised the Christmas chart will be week 52 in my spreadsheet this year rather than week 51 as it usually is. :P Edited October 21, 201113 yr by Bré
October 21, 201113 yr I asked this exact question on D'S as I thought the chart would be the 25th but that didn't align with the proposed date of the X Factor final and I was told that Wembley (for the X Factor Final) is booked on the 11th/12th December only (some other act has it booked the following weekend) and that the Xmas chart is announced on the 18th.
October 21, 201113 yr Unless the OCC has changed its policy, anyone saying the Xmas chart is anything other than W/E 31/12/2011 (announced on the 25th, covering sales from the 18th to the 24th) is wrong.
October 21, 201113 yr Perhaps they're releasing the XF track a week early as a crowd pleaser? They still get no.1 but then Christmas no.1 is open for a battle (AS IF the XF single wouldn't still be miles ahead of everything though)

Yeah, that was my understanding, but like u I find it strange to believe that the X Factor final is 10th/11th December as that would be 2 weeks before Xmas The only way I could see the XF producers going with 10th/11th December for the final, knowing Xmas chart was the chart announced on 25th, was if they were determined to have the final at Wembley but could only get it the weekend of the 10th/11th.

They still get no.1 but then Christmas no.1 is open for a battle (AS IF the XF single wouldn't still be miles ahead of everything though) It's first week sales might be virtually invulnerable, but its 2nd week sales would be eminemtlly catchable, if there was a determined & co-ordinated campaign.

October 21, 201113 yr I expect they will release it so that it charts on the chart published 18/12/2011 in that case, it'll doubtless sell enough to be #1 on its second week (Christmas chart) anyway.
October 21, 201113 yr X Factor are probably scared of being beaten again this year and this way they'll have an excuse.....
October 22, 201113 yr http://www.facebook.com/nirvanaforno1 :P But I wouldn't be prepared to support Nirvana, because I don't like them, or that song.
October 22, 201113 yr Why can't the fools campaign for a Christmas song to be number 1! See the 4th word of ur post.
October 22, 201113 yr I will class the 25th as the Christmas chart, and I don't care if some silly people influenced by Cowell high above say otherwise. The X Factor winner should not be guaranteed a #1 on the Christmas chart, why can't it have the week before? Christmas IS the 25th, not the 18th. :P

The 44,754 people who have already liked the Facebook page with just under 2 months still to go until the Christmas chart week would beg to differ though ;) Edited October 22, 201113 yr by Bré
