I think Top 3 out of this list is Azealia Banks, followed by Friends (I'm His Girl got me instantly) and then i was going to say Niki & The Dove but f*** Me is superior to not be included (although Love Me is meh).

Azealia Banks at #3 :o Thought she'd be #1 - it's probably Michael Kiwanuka now that she and Skrillex are out

Well... at least she made the top 5. Hopefully she'll have some middling success at least off the back of that then.

Couldn't call the winner now, I hope it's not Michael Kiwanuka as he isn't my kind of thing at all, but I can't see anyone else who's going for an obvious win. Certainly can't pick who'd be second.

The winner of BBC Sound of 2012 poll isn't guaranteed success on a plate. Jessie J may have had a UK #1 but other than that didn't set the charts alight compared to Ed Sheeran. Likewise with Ellie Goulding in 2010.

The way it's going, the 2012 winner may end up going the same way as 2005's winnners The Bravery. I just can't see Michael Kiwanuka being that successful but if I'm proved wrong then so be it.

Just heard "212". WHAT IS SHE SAYING
so I'd assume Michael Kiwanuka and Dot Rotten for the top 2? I hope its the former who wins, although I agree that I'd be doubtful about his success overall :( still, if Home Again is anything to go by, he should be great

What are you talking about? Jessie has 4 top 10 singles under her belt, and soon to be 5 with 'Domino'. Ed Sheeran only has 3 and he doesn't have a single nearing 1 million like 'Price Tag'. Jessie J's album has sold more than Ed Sheerans (although that does look likely to change) and she is bigger worldwide, with US success aswell. I think Ed Sheeran's album will sell more in the UK in the long run, but they are both having very high levels of success, with Jessie having sold more singles and more worldwide, so I don't think you can say Ed Sheeran is much bigger than Jessie at all.

I echo that they'll be the weakest winner since The Bravery, who at least managed a top 10 hit which the winner isn't even guaranteed. The Brits going for Emeli Sandé as Critics' Choice has meant that the "Sound of 2012" poll has been a complete curveball since the winners are usually pretty related and Emeli's not eligible for this:

2008: Adele beats Duffy for both

2009: Little Boots wins Sound of 2009, Florence 3rd and wins Critics' Choice, White Lies 2nd in both

2010: Ellie Goulding beats Marina for both

2011: Jessie J beats James Blake for both

Given that it was going to be an odd winner anyway but chucking out the two favourites 3rd and 4th has really put the cat amongst the pigeons. Michael Kiwanuku, Dot Rotten and Frank Ocean all sound like a decent bet for 2nd but they'd all be pretty underwhelming winners IMO.

Still thinking Lianne is the best

So beautiful

Would love for Frank Ocean to do well this year. My mate has got me into him and 'There Will Be Tears' is brilliant! I hope he gets success this year regardless of where he finishes in the Sound Of poll. (I have a feeling he's 6th! :manson:)

To be honest, I'd completely forgotton about 'Do It Like A Dude' when I posted that comment.  At least Jessie J has been more successful than Ellie Goulding if we compare them. :D It just seems like Ed Sheeran has been more successful but then I guess his success has been squashed into the latter half of 2011 whilst Jessie J was becoming successful right back in January with 'DILAD'.

Chuffed to see Azealia in the top 3 though - I'd feared she'd do a Clare Maguire and finish 5th behind some poor artists.

As for the remaining two places - I think Dot Rotten, StooShe and Michael Kiwanuka are the only real competitors. The former and latter have both received R1 support and StooShe have just been crowned 'T4 Rising Stars of 2012' and 'Pop Dash's Big in 2012' - so a top 5 placing on the sound of 2012 wouldn't seem completely out of a place. Dot and StooShe can't be the top 2 together though - two artists that rap wouldn't bode well. I think it'll be Rotten and Kiwanuka, but StooShe, Rotten and Friends would be my ideal contenders for the win.

I'm not too worried for Frank Ocean, and I think he's one of the most likely to have a big career in music out of the whole list, since he already has quite a large worldwide fanbase (similar to Skrillex I suppose), and has already made connections with some of the biggest artists in the world, whilst many of the others are unknown in comparison.

f*** OFF :( Oh well, Azealia doesn't need this list -_- :P

Definitely a Lianne La Havas/Michael Kiwanuka top 2 but I think they'll have it wrong this year and acts lower down the list will be bigger.

1/3 :kink:

Pretty sure you'll be correct. Lianne and Michael are shoe-ins for the top 2. Will be nice for it not to be a solo female for a change!

I do think Michael is certain for a top 2 placing since he's the only So'12-eligible artist who was nominated for Critics' Choice but I don't think Lianne is guaranteed to be the other one - I could easily see it being Dot Rotten.
I've heard a few of Michael Kiwanuka's songs and nothing about him screams huge potential to be honest, if I hadn't known that there was so much hype around him then I wouldn't have thought he'd be much more successful than Aloe Blacc. I guess he'll have a bigger selling album but I just can't imagine him having massive top five singles. The song of his I downloaded the other week, I Need Your Company, is a decent and respectable retro sounding soul song, quite catchy too but really nothing to write home about. Shocked at Azealia Banks going out in third, I'm sure that she'll be successful, likewise Dot Cotton Rotten who I can see having Wretch 32 style success this year.
