4th place to 19th? Seriously?! :drama:

 

I feel your pain! 5th to 18th is almost as bad a drop - although looking at it, it seems more the fact that the Semi 2 songs dominated the top half of the final than anything else which is surprising as I didn't care for Semi 2 at all save for three or four songs :o

 

Amusingly coincidentally Loreen was also the last time I knew what to send! After sending Panic I spent most of the year waiting for Sober to leak (although I sort of half-knew to send Drama, I'd just known it for a while already and passed it over without thinking, but it seemed really obvious to send it after actually going back to it and thinking on it properly :lol:)

 

Blame busier lives maybe? I've certainly been full on at work since July and had very little time to devote to scouring around looking for new music to send, and as a result finding BJSC entries. The bulk of my 2011 success came in January to June when I basically had bugger all to do BUT listen to music and found some really amazing songs :lol:

 

I was thinking (especially after vastly preferring SF1 to my own, but with results like Skall's it's clear it's a potential issue) - there really DOES need to be some sort of measure to mitigate the phenomenon of 'wrong semi'. One Big Final had its problems, but there could definitely be a way around it - optional voting in the other semi? Sure, it might make for some disparities, but that could be stopped by having a voting pair and making sure there's someone else who votes from the other semi - or would it even be an issue if there were disparities between number of voters in each semi?

 

The issue would arise in WHO would be voting. If Skall, Mdice and Espen decided that they wanted to vote in the opposite semi whilst no traditionally pop nations volunteered to do so then it would give certain songs a clear advantage. Likewise if three pop nations and no indie nations decided to optionally vote, hence lowering the chances of indie qualifiers.

 

It's always been a bit of an issue and this Skall entry turnaround proves it - still not sure how the problem could be solved though. What about having a 24 hour wildcard round after the semi results whereby the three songs that most narrowly miss out on qualification from each semi are put up to a general vote (via PM to the host) and the one from each semi with most votes goes through to the final, thus having a final of 30 (or 31 if the host AQ's). People would have to wait a day longer for the final thread to go up but I'm sure most people can find the time to listen to three new songs in a day and vote for their favourite (it wouldn't be compulsory of course and there would be no punishment for not voting) - and if a song DNQ'd and then failed to win the wildcard vote then that's a fairly conclusive NO. Wouldn't exactly be much extra work for the host either.

Oh my, I can't believe I only just qualified! I realised just how much I was in the wrong semi when the SF1 tracks were so much better than the others. 9th is rather pleasing anyhow, if I find anything with such potential I'll be entering again.

Thinking about my last post, I guess it might not work in that we'd then know who the two wildcards were when it came to the final, having known that they'd been saved from DNQ'ing would they be treated as fairly as the other 28 entries that had got there through qualification? I guess there really is no easy way around the situation :lol:

I may need some few pointers in the early stages of planning and stuff, but I am genuinely going to give it my best shot.

Even so, given it's entirely open for everyone to vote in nobody could particularly complain should a track they favoured not make it through - more fool them for not voting!

 

On the second option, why the three closest? If a wrong-semi case has really gone to pot then someone could conceivably finish last in the semi with a large amount of support - so it could make more sense to open it to all the non-qualifiers.

 

I suppose it could bias it, but only in the same way the idea of the bottom two biases the final result of those contestants who fall into it in the X Factor. Plus, there's no telling precisely HOW much support there is from the other semi, so you never know how well they could do in the final - you could mask precisely how much/little support there was for a non-qualifier in their semi by not giving away positions and points until after the final perhaps?

I've been complaining about wrong semi for near on 2 years now. It's one of those things we attempted to change with 1BF and in the end it was kind of decided semi's were worth the risk. Iirc it was you who wanted the semi's back Tyron.
