David Gueeta has a lot to answer for these past 10 years  We should get him on here for a question and answer though i would say it would turn into a huge arguement between bre and Eric :P

Another example which i learned from that biggest selling xmas songs last night was that 'Mistletoe and Wine' wasnt written by Sir Cliff - it was a song from an old Danish theatre play :o ....strange...then he made it into a massive hit. Wonder if they are annoyed at not getting credit lol!!

ANOTHER example is kanye wests production before his first sucess in 2004!

lol.

This reminds me the other day, I was listening to Radio 1Xtra, and they were talking about Lily Allen being credited on 5 O'Clock because of her being sampled (it's happened other times, like Dev on Like a G6 and Dido on Stan), and they were talking about other songs, what they'd be like if all the samples had the artists credited on the song. So Good Feeling would be Flo Rida ft. Avicii & Etta James, for example. There'd be SO many totally weird collabs if they did that. Especially with artists like the Black Eyed Peas who sample millions of songs.

So in terms of Rihanna songs, Don't Stop the Music would feature Michael Jackson, Live Your Life would feature O-Zone, Red Lipstick would feature Metallica, Take Care would feature The xx, Cheers would feature Avril Lavigne, and so on.

And a few extreme examples, Fergalicious by Fergie would have to be credited to "Fergie ft. will.i.am, J.J. Fad, Afro-Rican, James Brown & Kraftwerk". And it would be weird because a lot of artists from decades ago would be building up massive discographies with the amount of times they get sampled, especially with hip hop and dance, two genres which use a LOT of sampling being popular. Usually now artists who get sampled only get writing credits.

Thats why i love music weeks top 75 as they show the main artist but also show the writers and producers in brackets!!

Did you know the Cataracs produced the original version of SD - Wet?!

When is Will.i.am's new single out - Mick Jagger will be back in the top 40?!!! :D

Has itunes actually updated for use yet because I got the USA feed earlier  I was worried that LMFAO knocked Coldplay off for the minute but they haven't THANKGOODNESS :teresa:

Yeah. I really like The Cataracs. They make the HOTTEST beats.

I don't know when will.i.am's song is out, but I think it could be a massive hit. I don't think it's his best song (funnily enough, it sounds like The Cataracs in the verses ), but it's still okay I guess. He's releasing possibly 2 albums next year, so that'll be a fun year for me. :D

lol @ the Christina haters suddenly finding the thread tedious.

To anyone who has missed my post about updating the iTunes feed:

Here is the link (of course without spaces)

http:// ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wpa/MRSS/topsongs/sf=143444/limit=889990/rss.xml

try to change the number in bold to another one and you could get the updated chart.

Ah, but then you get into another debate about what is a 'sample' and what isn't. "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve doesn't technically sample The Rolling Stones but Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have writing credits alongside Richard Ashcroft and take part of the song's revenues. Likewise, "Talk" steals its guitar motif from a Kraftwerk song but it's not a direct sample.

A similar thing happened to me, I was updating the USA feed to see if Taylor Swift had reached #1 and saw a random Shakira song with a Spanish title at #1. I think it must have changed to the French feed or something

That's true. It would get very complicated. Even now it does in terms of the money behind the scenes and everything. I guess in the Bittersweet Symphony case they sampled a different version of the original. But even from other aspects aswell. Sample controversies often come simply from two people using the same preset in their producing software (but obviously the public don't know they're presets so assume one ripped off the other), or song B sampling song A, then song C sampling song A, but then people thinking song C sampled song B.

And with samples of samples aswell. So if they were doing the thing where you credit all the artists you sampled, Bittersweet Symphony would be credited to The Verve ft. The Rolling Stones. And then Ridin' Solo, which samples Bittersweet Symphony, would have to be credited to Jason Derulo ft. The Verve & The Rolling Stones. And then if anybody samples Ridin' Solo... They could simplify it by you just having to credit the lead artist of songs you sample I suppose.

Or maybe she'd released a Lil Wayne remix of it?
