If a song has different producers, writers for the instrumental and the lyrics with none of the three conferring there's going to be something missing from the song IMO. Maybe that's because my favourite genre tends to see the singer in a band write lyrics and work with the rest of the band on the instrumentation and at least one member of the band often co-produces it with an outside producer who's in the studio with them. At the risk of sounding snobby, it makes it sound more pleasing that were all the elements pretty much emailed to each other.

Yeah, I understand what you mean, and that's fair enough. I obviously don't mind that much, and in my favourite genre there's always lots of collaborations, sampling, etc, so I have a different view on things I guess.

But there's some songs in the chart like you've described. For example, 5 O'Clock is written by T-Pain, Wiz Khalifa and Lily Allen, and all three artists sing or rap the lyrics which they wrote, and the lead artist, T-Pain, produced and composed the instrumental.

But I don't think there's much value placed on artists writing their own lyrics. Everybody hates 5 O'Clock, despite the fact that the credited artists actually made the song. With regards to having critical acclaim, it's more about having good music videos at the moment, I suppose.

In the current top 10 on iTunes, artists that wrote their own lyrics are:

Coldplay

Flo Rida

Ed Sheeran

Olly Murs

LMFAO (also producers)

Rizzle Kicks

Labrinth (also producer)

Tinie Tempah

So the only people in the top 10 that didn't write their own lyrics are Little Mix, Military Wives and Rihanna.

What makes you think Military Wives will stay at number 1? Sunday and Saturday Coldplay had the lead and the shops were closed, so no additional physical sales for MW.

I don't think its sales are going to drop more than 80%, I should imagine 120k on physicals and around 45k on downloads, which should give it around 165k plus for the week. Military Wives would have picked up downloads after TOTP on Sunday. I also think Little Mix could actually stay at #2 on sales of 55-60k for the week. Coldplay did 50k last week, I imagine Coldplay will roughly do the same around 45-50k, so they could get to #2 at a push.

Well that's my theory.

[22] 22 | Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight (AV)

[24] 23 | LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem

[26] 24 | Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger (Now! 80)

[27] 25 | Adele - Someone Like You

[29] 26 | Lady GaGa - Marry The Night

[36] 35 | Bruno Mars - It Will Rain

[34] 36 | Justin Bieber - Mistletoe

[40] 38 | Rebecca Ferguson - Nothing's Real But Love

[38] 39 | Snow Patrol - Chasing Chars

[46] 42 | Jessie J - Domino

[49] 50 | JLS - Do You Feel What I Feel?

[93] 92 | Pitbull / Chris Brown - International Love

[137] 145 | Nero - Reaching Out

[240] 236 | Professor Green - Never Be a Right Time

[***] 284 | Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)

[274] 286 | David Guetta / Sia - Titanium

[***] 287 | Skrillex - First of the Year (Equinox)

[***] 289 | The Vaccines - Wetsuit

Airplay for 'Titanium' better kick in soon, it's dropping 10+ places on iTunes with every update - would be a shame to see it peak at #16, it deserves the success it's had in Australia and Ireland.

Saturday was last week - I assume you mean Sunday and Monday?

Even with a couple of days with no physical sales I still think the Wives will do more than enough to stop Coldplay, they're still heading for a good few tens of thousands of digital sales and Coldplay will probably do about 75k max (the lack of pop bars makes it hard to tell though).

I really want International Love to go top 10. But i'll settle for top 40.

Yep sorry I meant Sunday and Monday. I don't know why I wrote Saturday

Alex Day is going to fall OUT of the top 40 chart from #4  OUCH!!!

The sales will mean loads of people will be out shopping, not as much as xmas week but still alot. So MW will do a decent amount of cds this week too. Coldplay will increase sales imo again maybe 6-65k due to the amount of people with gift cards seeing it is no1 as well!!

Could this be the first JLS song to miss the top 10, 20, 30 and 40?!

Titanium is getting video play of mtv now so it should rise...radio 1 have yet to pick up on it yet - maybe on the first playlist of the new year!!

Hopefully its shockingly bad imo, they seem to have rush released the 3rd single which they usually leave until Feb because of the lack of staying power of their xmas ballad november release!

Fingers crossed that Sia can do well with her next solo album if Titanium (and Flo Rida's new single Wild Ones which she sings on) does well  Wishful thinking I know!

I thought the same with The Wanted but then they reduced it to 59p, so i definitely think JLS should take note of this.

Also Up was looking likely to miss top 40, but might make it now due to being 59p. :)

iTunes still not updated for me.

I absolutely love Sia, such a unique & powerful voice, definitely deserves to be a huge success.

Hope Titanium does well, and i'm sure Wild Ones will too.

There's not much point in them taking note, because if JLS's record label make the song 59p, it won't go on the front page of iTunes in that category they have of all the discounted songs.

I think Flo Rida's next song will surely be a hit. He never needs much promo to shoot straight up iTunes (still living off the success of Low I think tbh), so maybe he could debut at #1 if the sales at the top of the charts are really low in the next few weeks after everybody has used their gift cards.

My iTunes feed hasn't updated yet - Where are Rizzle Kicks' "MDTH"? :o
