December 27, 201113 yr Her single features M.I.A and Nicki Minaj doesn't it? Obvious desperate attempt at relevance but I'm sure it will be a hit even if on fanbase alone. And there's no way her album will miss #1 unless another Adele-sized phenomenon occurs. She doesn't need to have anyone featuring, she can manage a hit on her own. And I always thought she didn't like collaborting with other artists, because she "didn't like sharing divaness" or something like that, but I'm not sure if she was just joking or not :P
December 27, 201113 yr That collab she's doing isn't QUITE as extreme as Justin Timberlake and Timbaland from a couple of years ago (although that song turned out to be INCREDIBLE ). After that, this doesn't seem "desperate" at all. Although I suspect there'll be a Madonna-solo version of the song. About Kelly Rowland's song, people are suggesting it'll free-fall down the chart, or whatever, but it CAN'T, because it's already on iTunes. So it'll have to climb up the chart. And it's already charted top 100. The song is fantastic. It's RnB/hip hop with a piano melody going over the top, and under-laying brass sounds, and a few trance synths in there. Melodically and lyrically, it's a lot like your typical Ester Dean-written song. It's very sexual, full of innuendo (especially Big Sean's verses (in the intro and the bridge), you think Drake's verse in What's My Name? was bad, but Big Sean goes on about sex tapes and dressing up as school girls ), and has those characteristic traits of Ester Dean songs ("wo-o-o-o-ah"s like in What's My Name? and "down-wa-down-wa-dow-dow-down" like from Right There). Sonically, in terms of the instrumental, although it's produced by Hit-Boy, it sounds like songs such as Never Leave You by Tinchy Stryder, Best Thing I Never Had by Beyonce (mainly the piano), Live Your Life by T.I., Invincible by Tinie Tempah, Coming Home by Diddy, etc. I hope I've described the song well enough for those who can't be bothered to listen to it.
December 27, 201113 yr Lay It On Me is so much better than Down For Whatever! I clearly just have a love for "island" sounding tracks though, I thought the same about Only Girl and What's My Name.
December 28, 201113 yr I think when Home Again is released on Sunday it could easily challenge for the no1, good song, loads of radio 1 airplay and a decent video - i hope he does well. When is the Will.i.iam track officially out? Madonna is on Graham Norton in a few weeks!!
December 28, 201113 yr Madonna is on Graham Norton in a few weeks!! I didn't think Madonna was the type of person to go on chat shows like this, so I was quite suprised when I heard she was going on GNS.
December 28, 201113 yr Cover Drive will hopefully be a shock top 5 hit! I can genuinely see it being bigger than 'Lick Ya Down'.
December 28, 201113 yr None of this stuff stands out. When does Skrillex release Scream? Now that will be big.
December 28, 201113 yr Ed Sheeran`s next single Drunk - released around February I believe could well give him his first No 1................one of the best tracks from the album.
December 28, 201113 yr I haven't heard it yet, but I hope it's as good as Down for Whatever  To be successful, surely it'd need to be a hell of a lot *better* than DFW... :P Madonna is releasing an album and single early next year, and I'm sure they'll be successful - the album will most likely debut at #1 I think this is a 'well, duh!' moment. :) Ed Sheeran`s next single Drunk - released around February I believe could well give him his first No 1................one of the best tracks from the album. But it'll be the 4th from it, which virtually precludes any chance of #1, however popular it might be with his fans.
December 28, 201113 yr I didn't think Madonna was the type of person to go on chat shows like this, so I was quite suprised when I heard she was going on GNS. I definitely remember watching her on a chat show before, so I guess I'm not surprised. I'm trying to remember which one she was on now, but I definitely remember her being on something. I guess it might've been during when Hung Up and Sorry were popular.
December 28, 201113 yr I think this is a 'well, duh!' moment. :) Not necessarily, "4 Minutes" was pretty huge and "Hard Candy" didn't even sell 100k in its first week. Even a decent-sized comeback like Foo Fighters this year would prevent that from #1 and sales are lower now.
December 28, 201113 yr No way Madonna will fail to get another number one album. If it's out in March I can't see anyone stopping her as the Brits impact (Adele, Blur etc) will be faded out by then.
December 28, 201113 yr Her single features M.I.A and Nicki Minaj doesn't it? Obvious desperate attempt at relevance but I'm sure it will be a hit even if on fanbase alone. And there's no way her album will miss #1 unless another Adele-sized phenomenon occurs. Hardly - this is Madonna we're talking about, she's still 'relevant' without any help. I'm SO excited about the Lana Del Rey album  I hope it's not a disappointment after the two cracking singles.
December 28, 201113 yr 2nd January Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again - Top 40 hit, can't see this being a massive hit regardless of the BBC Sound Of 2012 poll. Rihanna – You Da One - It's already top 10 on iTunes so the chances of this going top 5 is looking very likely. Future #1? Doubt it'll happen. Taio Cruz - Troublemaker - Really should've been 'Hangover' as it's already doing well in central Europe. Not that the record company actually cares about things like that. Will probably go top 20 - top 10 if lucky. 16th January Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again - Not even heard this so that's not exactly a good sign. Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – Antidote - Wouldn't be at all surprised if this is #1. There's usually the big January dance hit and I think 'Antidote' with its "Mafia meets hardcore Japanese porn" works wonders. :D 23rd January Cover Drive – Twilight - Purely for having the word "BATIDOS" feature in the first 20 seconds of the music video gets my seal of approval. Only BJSC participants will understand why. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die - If this isn't #1 I will be deeply disappointed. 6th February Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - Would also love to see this #1. A UK top 2 consisting of Gotye feat. Kimbra (no. 1) and Lana Del Rey (no. 2) is just too good to be true. Please let it happen. Kelly Rowland feat Big Sean - Lay It On Me - I'm really not interested to be honest. Don't think I've heard this anyways. Kelly was lucky to be involved in X Factor to get a poor track like 'Down For Whatever' into the top 10. Coming Soon Alexandra Burke feat Eric Morillo – Elephant [27th Feb] - As it's the Burke, I'm sure this will be a hit to some extent. 'Start Without You' split opinion on Buzzjack - some hated it whilst others saw the novelty value and enjoyed the track for what it was. As it's got Eric Morillo involved, I hope it's more 'Happiness' by Alexis Jordan and less 'Collide' by Leona Lewis. Dappy feat Brian May - Rock Star [13th Feb] - I avoided 'No Regrets' like the plague. Then I caught the last part of the song (with the gospel choir) and liked what I heard but felt a :manson: moment when I realised it was Dappy's track. I just can't see this being anywhere near as "good". My precious Gotye & Lana Del Rey UK top 2 is already looking doubtful. Jessie J – Domino [27th Feb] - I noticed earlier this is now up to no. 38 on iTunes so it's slowly climbing upwards. I don't think a music video consisting of backstage footage is the best to sell the song. At least that's the video I saw on YouTube. I still think it's her second best single so far. The Saturdays feat Travie McCoy - The Way You Watch Me - I think The Saturdays might actually be past it now. :( It started off very promisingly with their debut album in 2008. However, 'Forever Is Over' will always be their curse (biggest hit with worst single is not a great achievement). Far better follow up singles failed to live up to expectations. Their last single failed to go top 10. All in all, if this bombs then I think forever really IS over for The Saturdays. Taio Cruz feat Flo Rida - Hangover [19th Mar] - Had it been released next week, I could imagine this going top 5 with ease. 'Troublemaker' may well go top 5 yet. Of the two tracks I prefer 'Hangover' although I don't think either are anywhere near as good as tracks like 'Dynamite' and 'Come On Girl'. I still don't understand why 'Break Your Heart' was so popular but hey ho... Will I Am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E. - Well, who thought Jennifer Lopez would have her most successful single of her career in 2011? Who expected Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera to be such a dominant force? This time next year I might be posting something along the lines of "who expected Mick Jagger to have the biggest selling single of his entire career in 2012?". :o
December 28, 201113 yr It's not on the list but Kelly Clarksons Stronger deserves to be a big hit. It's great but I just can't see it getting much air play or the exposure it really needs.
December 28, 201113 yr Scissor Sisters featuring Azealia Banks - Shady Love - what do people make of this one? I was hoping the featuring of Banks would help both artists, possibly turning Scissor Sisters into a success story of 2012. However, Banks posted on Twitter this morning that she's not featured on the upcoming Scissor Sisters track, so they'll have to brave the release alone - surely a top 20 (permitting it's supported).
December 28, 201113 yr Will I Am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E. :o That would be IMPRESSIVE, I don't the Stones ever had a million-selling single but I'd imagine a few of theirs weren't that far off. So this would have to sell over 800k and be one of the biggest hits of the year, which I can't really see. None of this stuff stands out. When does Skrillex release Scream? Now that will be big. Is that definitely his next single? I thought it was "Voltage".
December 28, 201113 yr Hardly - this is Madonna we're talking about, she's still 'relevant' without any help. I'm SO excited about the Lana Del Rey album  I hope it's not a disappointment after the two cracking singles. I think her album will have huge first week figures, especially if the new single challenges the top5! Would ALSO love to see Mick Jagger and Brian May back in the UK top 10 in 2012!! :o Edited December 28, 201113 yr by steve201
December 29, 201113 yr Cover Drive will hopefully be a shock top 5 hit! I can genuinely see it being bigger than 'Lick Ya Down'. Hopefully you're right. It's much better than that vile Lick Ya down Swedish House Maffia are definitely going to be number 1 next month. Sometimes I like T.H.E., sometimes I hate it. Mick Jagger has the best part of that song in my opinion. :o Contestant number 1. Let's see... Lovin' this thread. B-)
