Being stalked by a song?

I've yet to see the video to 'Kiss The Stars' but having previewed the track on iTunes (just curious as to what it sounded like), it's basically 'All About Tonight Pt II'. That'll probably explain why it's doing well amongst Pixie's fanbase. As someone else posted yesterday, if the song had been 99p all this time I doubt it would be anywhere near this high on iTunes.

Of course it wouldn't be that high on iTunes if it was 99p. EVERY song in existance would sell more at 59p than 99p.

I could honestly see Pixie at something like #25 just now, not #5 if it wasn't 59p.

How is Taio Cruz still in the top 10? Surely his arms must have fallen off by now, the amount of time he spends with his "hands in the air".

Pumped Up Kicks #23 (and #136)

Call It What You Want #111 - please be put down to 59p. This song needs to be top 40!!

The main difference being 'Kiss The Stars' is technically a new release that's been reduced in price to 59p. Even though I've not seen it, I can only assume it's getting a fair amount of airplay. I'm surprised more record companies haven't used this tactic.

What are the chances One Direction 'One Thing' will be reduced to 59p in the next fortnight?

Record labels can't use that tactic, because it's iTunes that decide what gets discounted to 59p and put on the front page.

A record label can discount the song themself, but it won't go on the front page of iTunes, so it won't see so much of a boost.

Yeah, it would be weird. Pixie Lott is honestly the LAST artist we'd expect to see CLIMB to #1 (although technically Boys and Girls did, but that was a bit different ).

I think it'll be either Jessie J or Swedish House Mafia next week though. Jessie's lead is huge now.

but shell do 60k at most this week, unless she can increase sales.SHM should be top 3 with 40-60k in sales! Maybe Titanium will climb to no1!!

I find it odd that people are predicting Swedish House Mafia to debut so high - I have my doubts that it'll even crack the top 10. It's good, but not their best - outpeaking 'Miami 2 Ibiza' (#4) would just be cruel.

I hope 'Wild Ones' becomes a massive hit! I heard for the first time two days a go and it's brilliant. (Not 'Titanium' brilliant but that's going to be the challenge for something featuring Sia now!) But ugh at that Will.I.Am. song being high. I am still hoping it flops slightly, but it's gonna do over 100k in first week and that'll be enough for it to get number 1. :nocheer:

How do you know that? I'm pretty sure that some songs are indeed decided by iTunes but some singles that are put down to 59p are definitely discounted by the labels. See Saturdays 'Notorious' when it was going to fall into disaster, lots of third/fourth singles, now this... It's definitely down to the label.

I actually think Wild Ones by Flo Rida could up reaching #1, its already got massive leads in Australia & New Zealand itunes and that's without a video. I'd also say DJ Fresh is pretty much a certain #1 in February as well.

I'm not convinced SHM will be #1 just yet but not long to wait now. Lana could well be #1 the week after but again, I'm not convinced but there's not much that could stop her? (her album will probably go to #1 though). So hope Gotye does it but its gonna need TV support, it'll go top 5 regardless though.

I wonder when Kiss The Stars will go back up to 99p?

They confirmed it in an article somewhere that was posted on here. It said something like "A bunch of songs hand-picked by iTunes employees".

The record label can choose to discount songs whenever they want. When Notorious was discounted to 79p the first time, it wasn't put on the front page of iTunes, and was nothing to do with that iTunes discount thing. Just the record label wanted to boost it. When they discounted it the 2nd time to 59p, I'm not sure whether that was as part of the iTunes thing or the record label's doing again.

Perhaps the massive leads in Australia/NZ may have something to do with the nationality of the featured artist :P

But in all seriousness, it does look like Wild Ones will buck the trend of Flo Rida having only one big hit per album based on how well the fake version is doing. There is/was a fake version of Hot Right Now doing well also, so that and T.H.E (The Hardest Ever) also look like big contenders for #1 in the next couple of months.

'Antidote' is up to #51 on pre-orders, I think that and the low sales at the top of the chart means it looks very promising it'll at least be a second top 5 hit for them, but I agree I don't think it'll be #1. (The chart prediction oracle that is gooddelta says it will be though so )

Gotye could very well be a #1 contender in the coming weeks/months but regardless of where it peaks I think it's going to have a mega chart run.

Also doing very well on pre-orders is Alyssa Reid (#87) - released in the dead week between Lana and will.i.am so unfortunately could be a #1, especially now it has Radio 1 support :( Hot Right Now is #100 on pre-orders.

I'd rather see something that could get 2 or 3 weeks at #1 instead of the weekly turnover, but I can't see that happening any time soon. Mind you if SHM peaks at #2 I can't see anyone else apart from Jessie J holding on for another week. Even Antidote is been used in the background of the BBC1 & 2 ads.

All pre-orders in the top 200:

51. Antidote (Remixes) [swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party] - Swedish House Mafia & Knife Party

57. Born to Die - Lana Del Rey

60. Our Version of Events - Emeli Sandé

87. Alone Again (feat. Jump Smokers) - Alyssa Reid

93. Born to Die (Deluxe Version) - Lana Del Rey

100. Hot Right Now (feat. Rita Ora) - EP - DJ Fresh

153. Get Out My Head - EP - Redlight

168. Twilight (Remixes) - EP - Cover Drive

179. A Flash Flood Of Colour (Deluxe Version) - Enter Shikari

'Get Out My Head' to be a surprise hit? Released a week tomorrow (same day as Born To Die).

Enter Shikari's album could challenge for #1 next week I reckon, their singles always go quite high on iTunes just from their fanbase so a fanbase-driven #1 album with VERY low sales might not be out of the question - it'll probably need about 30k at the absolute maximum, maybe even closer to 20k. Their last album only got #16 but The Maccabees' last album missed the top 10 as well and they're challengers for #1 tomorrow.

I know Sia is Australian  but I think its gonna be huge, #1 is just a gut feeling though. I agree with everything you said actually.

Yeah Gotye will be huge either way, I just hope it doesn't get stuck at #2 for weeks behind different #1s (ie Will.I.Am/DJ Fresh/Flo Rida etc). I think it will just depend how quickly it climbs over the next couple of weeks on itunes and if it gets TV exposure.

I did wonder if Alyssa Reid could pull a surprise, I've heard it quite a bit but I'm not sure it'll be a #1? I definately see it as top 5 though but you never know.

i hope Get out of my head is a hit - its a great dance tune and on the radio 1 alist(so maybe not that surprising a hit)....i will be buying it!!

Whether this is tongue in cheek or not, I don't think she was really massively popular in Australia/NZ (certainly not at all in the latter), she's actually only had 2 top 40 singles in Australia (You've Changed peaked at 32, and Clap Your Hands at 17, both from her latest era and the latter was only after she won at the ARIA awards - their version of the BRITS) and all her albums before her latest (We Are Born, which peaked at 2) missed top 40 (well Some People Have Real Problems was umber 41 :P). She's more of a 'cult' figure I think, I'm trying to think of a UK counterpart but I can't right now.

So glad she's getting the recognition she deserves now though, her solo stuff is amazing and I've been following her for a couple of years now so I really hope her next solo era (album out in summer apparently) does well over here!

Great track I love the original by Heart, its better without the rap bit though.
