Yeah, over the last couple of days she got close and then fell away again - so I didn't think she would make it!

I see that Gotye always seems to climb during the day and then falls away later on - up to #15 for now though :)

I think its mainly because its climbing thanks to Radio 1 and 2 plays during the day but it isn't any exposure (especially TV) during the evening so falls back. Interesting Gotye is almost #1 on Irish itunes already

Nah, I think it'll do a 'Black & Yellow' and peak relatively low in the top 10 despite these 'fake versions'. People who buy the fake versions - are they/you more likely to buy the real version when it comes out to? Would be nice to have Sia in the top 10 on two different records at the same time though.

I agree that not all high charting fake versions end up meaning songs will go to #1 but I think Wild Ones will have quite wide appeal and it has good chance, and its the highest charting fake song so far. Label will release it shortly I'd imagine? You're right that not everyone will rebuy it though. I really do hate these fake versions but what do labels expect? I mean why is Alexandra Burke releasing her single in March, thats nearly 7/8 week wait!

Welcome to 2001. :P

Record companies have now rediscovered exactly what they did 10 years ago. By holding back a new release by up to 8 weeks they think such singles will just generate massive first week sales. The problem is they do, but nobody is interested by week 2 so despite the big opening week sales, the track suddenly starts plummeting. In the days of physical cd singles and running out of stock it was understandable. In the days of legal downloads and unlimited supply it's very worrying.

That's why, imo, 2009 was a massive year for singles sales. You had 'I Gotta Feeling', 'Poker Face' and 'Meet Me Halfway' all selling relatively well before they even topped the UK chart. Had 'Price Tag' been held back for up to 8 weeks last year, it most likely would've gone to #1 selling 100k but its sales would have nosedived more sharply and wouldn't be anywhere near a million seller.

Just typical UK based record companies shooting themselves in the foot...again!!! :D

They say artists make very little money from selling music. This is why (ie; greedy record company tactics).

The thing with Black and Yellow was that Hype Squad's version was literally identical to the original, just with an extra drum pattern in it. So it makes sense that it sold so much, and that the orginal didn't sell that much more when it was released. There's also things to take into account, such as fanbases. You rarely see JLS fake covers high on iTunes, probably because they have a devoted fanbase who want to buy the actual track by JLS. Whilst with Wiz Khalifa, Flo Rida, etc, they don't really have a big fanbase, and people are fans of the song itself, so are fine buying an almost identical song by a different artist.

:w00t: :w00t:

What the hell, Thought this would be like #50 today, i have noticed Jay Sean, Chipmunk, Tinie Tempah, Calvin Harris and Skepta telling all their fans to buy it on Twitter, Thats probably the reason why its so high

I'm really shocked that it's top 40 in the mid-weeks! :o I'm going to have to listen to the chart update. I hope they played it, but there were a lot of new entires, and he was the lowest down, so they might not have had time. :( But I think the fact that it's top 40 in the mid-weeks still will generate a lot of hype, and I'm sure more of his fans will actually make an effort to buy the track, now that they see it actually has a chance of making the chart!!!

Rizzle Kicks for #1 :w00t: (If SHM can't somehow get there :P)

There are now two 'fake' songs in the top 100:

49. Wild Ones (Flo Rida feat. Sia Deluxe Remake) - Wild Flo

98. T.H.E (The Hardest Ever) [will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez Deluxe Remake] - Kings of Pop

This is the ridiculousness that happens when record labels hold back releases <_<

Wild Flo could well make the official top 40 next week if it doesn't get deleted and the real version doesn't get released!

122. Drunk - Ed Sheeran

Doing pretty well so far :D Hope this can be a fourth top 10 hit for him.

My mum just bought Kiss The Stars :kink:

First song she's bought on iTunes since 'Lighthouse' by Westlife

Hang It Up smashing I see. GO BACK TO MAKING GOOD MUSIC TING TINGS! Hands was so good.

:w00t: Really? Gooooooo Ireland. It does have the vague air of a song that would be bigger there than here though :(

True about the airplay thing, it really should be getting more TV. It's not like the video's explicit or anything

Agree about Hands  Shame it flopped as well. They seem to have decided that they're Aerosmith now, which probably isn't a good thing.

Wow. Don't know what to say to this.

JME up to #28!!! :cheer:

And a cover version of T.H.E is in the top 100! Maybe the charts are starting to get good again! :o

agreed. :( 'hang it up' really is disappointing compared to the rest of their stuff, they've really gone tits up with this 'era' or whatever this is classified as. :drama:

Yeah, Gotye was even #1 on Irish itunes earlier :o TV airplay will hopefully pick up next week once it (potentially) goes top 20. Fresh42012 is all over the Box yet it doesn't seem to get played.

Just seen that the Flo Rida fake has been deleted. There's another version in the 300s that will climb over the next few weeks I'm sure. I wonder how many fakes will get deleted before it gets released  Its only a matter of time before the Will.I.AM/J-Lo fake gets deleted too I'd imagine.

Rizzle Kicks to be number one next week? Glad to see Pixie still at #06 on iTunes. She should drop to around #07-08 tomorrow though, I am just happy she's getting a 3rd top 10 from a poor album. Scary that Cry Me Out never got top 10 and this will though, I still have doubts Kiss The Stars will pass 200,000. Release date is next week though so I guess she might stay top 10 longer than expected.

Maybe. It should be one of Rizzle Kicks, Lana Del Rey, Cover Drive or Jessie J I think.

boo! I suppose it was inevitable but I was loving the thought of 'titanium' going to number 1. oh well, I just hope rizzle kicks don't end up getting there. :puke:

'Born To Die' for explosive first week sales to make up for two average weeks for singles sales. :D

MAKE IT HAPPEN. Both single and album need to be getting close to 100k, album especially because there's bugger all out for a while afterwards.
