Wow, great to see both Aaliyah and Tori Amos achieve #1 singles way back then...

The Aaliyah one was due to her passing away more then musical merit (Try Again would have been a far superior #1).

Actually it was more due to Puretone leaking the previous week, otherwise Addicted To Bass would've been #1 instead.

My point was the single did so well due to her passing away.

Sia on course for her biggest hit ever today, hopefully! Looking set to be a decent chart all round with lots of decent climbers and some great debuts :D My retro faves;

2011

01. (-) Bruno Mars - Grenade (149,834) Mammoth opening week, three times more than the #2!

02. (5) Jessie J - Do It Like A Dude (55,643)

03. (1) Rihanna - What's My Name ft Drake (42,927)

06. (10) David Guetta - Who's That Chick ft Rihanna (28,628)

07. (27) Adele - Make You Feel My Love (27,488)

09. (8) Far East Movement - Like A G6 ft Cataracs & Dev (23,600)

10. (-) JLS - Eyes Wide Shut (22,847)

2007

01. (1) Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This (20,669)

02. (2) Eric Prydz Vs Floyd - Proper Education (20,577) Oh wow, didn't recall this being less than 100 sales away from #1 at all :o I bought this on single too, although same for A Moment Like This and Grace Kelly, the latter being my favourite of the three!

03. (-) Mika - Grace Kelly (20,200)* wub.gif

04. (-) Just Jack - Starz In Their Eyes (13,000)

05. (3) Take That - Patience (12,800)*

06. (23) Jojo - Too Little Too Late (11,000)

10. (7) Cascada - Truly Madly Deeply (9,400)*

2002

01. (-) Aaliyah - More Than A Woman (32,081)

02. (68) Puretone - Addicted To Bass (31,486) Pleased to see a posthumous chart topper for Aaliyah but at the same time this got so close, and hung around for a lot longer. I guess the sales it got at #68 the previous week would have given it the edge and the #1, did shops leak it early?

03. (1) Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This (23,800)

04. (-) Dr Dre - Bad Intentions ft Knoc-Turn'Al (22,700)* Was this the lead single from Detox?

05. (-) DJ Aligator Project - The Whistle Song (Blow My Whistle Bitch) (21,800)* Awful, he's Danish iirc? Either way this song took two years to chart here, it was first released in 2000, and flopped.

07. (2) Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor (20,600)*

09. (-) Lange - Drifting Away ft Skye (19,500)*

1997

01. (2) Tori Amos - Professional Widow (It's Got To Be Big) (80,000)

02. (-) Backstreet Boys - Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) (79,000) Definitely the first decent single by Backstreet Boys

05. (10) Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina (54,000)*

06. (1) Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 (53,000)*

07. (-) Texas - Say What You Want (48,000)* Adore this, glad it later climbed into the top three too!

09. (5) En Vogue - Don't Let Go (Love) (32,000)

10. (-) No Mercy - Where Do You Go (29,000)*

Retro faves!

Lots of GREAT tracks in the whole retro selection this week.

God sales were terrible for 2007, remember that and the 2002 charts well(though thought the charts sales were better in 2002, theyre more now),loadsa post xmas new entries...what album was Bad Intentions by Dr Dre on?
2002

It's sales at No 68 were 809 copies so yes if it hadn't leaked it would have topped the charts that week :o Shops got the CD on the Saturday ready for the Monday but some put it on the shelves that day?!

That sounds too many to be a "leak" - that's approx 3% of the full week sales.

Pretty sure that's where I got the Steps/Rui Da Silva mix up from in my Steps rate thread last year (when I wrongly stated that the early Steps leak cost them the #1). I knew that there was a single in January of a year in the early 00s that missed #1 because of leaked sales, turns out that it was in fact Addicted To Bass and not It's The Way You Make Me Feel

Hi chart people :P

Hope to see The Maccabees holding onto the #1 album (even if their decline next week will be Aguilera-esque, or at least Bublé) or if not them then Adele. Just don't want Bruno to be #1 :P Although it would mark a year in the top 15, starting and ending at #1, which would be interesting symmetry I guess

Also hope Skrillex has snuck into the top 40 singles. And looking forward to seeing where Foster The People have landed in both charts (hopefully top 10 in the albums, they were #11 on Friday but have rebounded on iTunes since).

Steps were still far behind Rui da Silva. In fact, Fragma were very close to overtaking Steps.

Hope either the Maccabees or Adele gets to no1 in the albums and i guess jessie is the no1 single...hopefully there are a few new entries in the top 40 for new hits of this year from M83, Pro Green, Skrillex, Kelly Clarkson and Gotye
Great to see Star Guitar at no1 in Spain in 2002,good taste from the Spaniards!!

Either way, that was one HELL of a top three! Everytime You Need Me being my favourite song there but the other two songs were absolutely excellent too.
