I may have to go do some more CHART RESEARCH :magic: to find out when the last time was that we had 3 #1s in a row by artists from countries other than the UK and the USA

Lou Bega/Vengaboys/Eiffel 65 in 1999 was the last instance of this.

back in the 90's there were entire charts without a British entry... or maximum 1 song per Hot 100....

i remember when Des'ree reached the top 10 with 'You gotta be' it was seen as a huuge achievement.

the past 3 years has been better thanks to Coldplay & Adele....

Jay Sean, Taio Cruz, Calvin Harris and lol Lauren Bennett have also had #1s there recently. The US charts are good, as songs like Hey, Soul Sister and Pumped Up Kicks are able to be massive hits over there.

Everybody I've spoken to (in real life) about Madonna's new song HATES it. I don't think it's bad at all.

Madonna Rate:

01 Frozen

02 Hung Up

03 4 Minutes

04 Like A Prayer

05 Give Me All Your Luvin'

Brilliant to see No Light, No Light now so high, hope it can re-peak this week in the top 60 to keep up their top 60 streak. Why is it climbing again now though?

This doesn't necessarily explain it, because it's not exactly huge promo, but it was on an E4 advert for Skins this week.

01: Frozen/Just Like A Prayer

02: THE REST.

The 2 top songs there are pure life-enhancing moments tbh.

01. Hung Up (I don't think she'll ever better this imo, still sounds brilliant)

02. Like a Prayer

03. Vogue

04. True Blue

05. Who's That Girl

06. Music

07. Jump

08. Get Together

09. Ray Of Light

10. Into The Groove

that was rather hard - she has done quite a lot of songs! :o

I feel some of her hits are more underrated than others, 4 Minutes and Crazy For You are slightly overrated imo (Heart radio can be blamed for the latter) but generally her status is very much deserved, I'm not a massive fan of Give Me All Your Lovin' though, its just all a bit...eh really

After checking, the only Madonna songs I have on my mp3 player are:

Material Girl

4 Minutes

Like a Prayer - Well, it's Glee Cast's version, but I'll still count it :coffee:

Give It 2 Me

Who's That Girl? - Who's That Chick? TOTALLY rips this off btw

Miles Away - I thought this was a Nelly Furtado song when I first heard it

Borderline - Fergie said in an interview that Meet Me Halfway was inspired by this song, so I went and downloaded it  They play it on Heart all the time too

Sorry

Agree.

GMAYL is dire compared to what she has done in the past. It's just so, so poor :(

Lou Bega/Vengaboys/Eiffel 65 in 1999 was the last instance of this.

Prior to and including those three, summer 1999 had this run of #1's;

828 Vengaboys Boom Boom Boom Boom!!

829 ATB 9PM (Till I Come)

830 Ricky Martin Livin' La Vida Loca

831 Ronan Keating When You Say Nothing At All

832 Westlife If I Let You Go

833 Geri Halliwell Mi Chico Latino

834 Lou Bega Mambo No 5

835 Vengaboys We're Going To Ibiza

836 Eiffel 65 Blue (Da Ba Dee)

Only 1 British act out of 9 #1's and no American acts, US domination was a lot less prevalent at the turn of the century, it's 2003 onwards when it massively started to take over, the year when R&B and hip-hop began to dominate for the first time.

I remember watching Top of the Pops when Eiffel 65 were at #1. It doesn't seem that long ago.

I used to love that song

I remember I used to watch Top Of The Pops religiously for about half a year, ending around the time when t.A.T.u., Evanescence etc were #1's. What brilliant #1's were chucked out around then. Lately, I'm hearing very few 'classic sounding' songs. :( I think alot of the hits right now, will be forgotten in years gone by. :( (sorry pedants, in years to come!)

My iTunes contains a grand total of 2 Madonna songs. In order:

1. Ray of Light > > > > 2. Like a Prayer

Although I suppose Beautiful Stranger isn't bad either.

There are so many brilliant pop singles Madonna has released since the mid 80s that I would struggle to narrow them down to just a top 5 list of faves.

I used to love that song

Go on, admit it. You still love 'Blue' by Eiffel 65 don't you? :D

I may have to go do some more CHART RESEARCH :magic: to find out when the last time was that we had 3 #1s in a row by artists from countries other than the UK and the USA - if Gotye does get there this week then that'll be a Barbadian act followed by a French/Australian collaboration followed by a Belgian-Australian/New Zealandic collaboration.

No 'Frozen'; invalid list.

The 'On this Day' in this weeks music week is a decent chart fact - on this day saturday 3rd Feb 1990 the uk singles chart top 3 was free of British and UK acts for the first time ever with Irelands Sinead O'Connor gtaking the top spot with Nothing compares, Australian Kylie Minogue at no2 and Belgian Technotronic at 3....interesting! :)

That's why I gave up after 2! :D

Was it bad to love it? I thought it was awesome. But I found the music video quite scary at the time.

It was weird to me when Flo Rida/Wynter Gorden sampled it, because it was really the first time a song that I loved in my childhood got sampled like that by a popular artist.

Well at the time it was embarrassing to like it - especially as I was 23.

I loved it! *forgets the fact that he was only 8 and a half at the time of release...* :P (21 now and still do...)
