Do I give a shit if he's hot or not? All I know is his version of a totally brilliant track is an utter joke.

Stop thinking about it as 'his version of someone else's song'. Just think about it as his own song and enjoy it for what it is - pure pop! :-)

It isn't his song though. Plus being hot is not really a legit reason for buying a song imo.

I like your sense of humour about this though - some people are too serious about covers!

cheers! :-)

I just don't know why when someone releases a cover, listeners have to go back and compare it to the original. What's the point of that? Just enjoy it in its own right, I say!

Have to disagree over the 'hot' argument, though - I'd never have collected all of Upside Down's hits had they been boggers! haha.

 I agree with this. To me, Seven Nation Army is almost among the list of "sacred" tracks that should never be covered. Especially when it's such a weak version as this. :(

Yes, they've sucked all the life out of it, shoe-horning R&B blandness in it's place. :(

Marcus Collins just releasing a song (regardless of quality) so soon after The X Factor finished is a good thing. It'll certainly keep him in the public domain for a few weeks with the album release too.

He's from X-Factor? Well, that explains a *lot*...

Marcus Collins' version is actually pretty good! Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon (myself included) because it is a cover but it does the original justice so good luck to him!

If 'doing justice' means 'urinating all over it'. :P

Imagine what this thread is going to be like next week when the song is actually out......
I don't see how it does the original justice. It completely distorts it. Its not edgy indie with a thumping beat anymore, its so much more tame. The spirit is gone

Well it won't be as good. X factor ruin everything they cover by releasing a watered down weak version which is always inferior to the original. Thats X factor for you. A pile of poop!!

I agree, hot isnt a reason to buy songs, look at 1Direction and JLS. Mediocre singers and poor songs apart from the odd one but delusional fans buy copy after copy hoping that they will marry them in the future.

Ridiculous how fame makes average looking people (ed sheeran, harry styles, aston, adele and many more) the best looking people in the world

And they nearly always outsell the original, e.g Many of Horror, The Climb, Run, Hero, Hallejuah etc etc

No matter what we think of the originals they will almost always be outsold by XF so we'll just have to ge used to it.

that doesn't make them any more bearable

Arctics currently at #22 so almost certain to beat the #28 peak of "Don't Sit Down..." unless they go into complete freefall.

Who's saying that Adele is hot? Her voice (and promotion) are selling her music, not her looks.

Madeon #15

Chiddy Bang #13

Matt Redman #8

The latter will probably drop out of the top 10 by Sunday given it's #9 on iTunes already.

Midweek Charts: Adele and Sande neck and neck

Emeli Sande is in hot pursuit of Adele to top the UK artist albums chart this coming weekend as Gotye and Dappy fight to head the singles countdown.

Although the XL-issued 21 has taken an early lead in its pursuit of a 22nd week at number one on albums, it was little more than 1,100 sales ahead of Sande’s Virgin debut Our Version Of Events by the end of business on Tuesday, according to Official Charts Company Data.

Also not far behind is Ed Sheeran who, like Adele and Sande, was a Brits winner last week and he continues to benefit from his double victory with Asylum/Atlantic debut + currently the week’s third biggest artist album.

With Polydor’s Lana Del Rey album Born To Die still in fourth place the top four albums in this new chart week are presently in exactly the same order as they were on last Sunday’s final chart, while Island act Gotye slips 5-6 with Making Mirrors. However, Gotye has a good chance of extending his run at the top of the singles chart to a third non-consecutive week with Somebody That I Used To Know featuring Kimbra as on the latest Sales Flashes it is around 3,000 sales ahead of Dappy featuring Brian May’s AATW/Island-issued Rockstar, which is showing up as a new entry at two.

Back on the albums chart and Meat Loaf’s Sony album Hell In A Handbasket looks like becoming his 10th studio effort to reach the UK Top 10 as it is currently the week’s fifth top seller and highest-placed new release. It is joined in the 10 at number 10 by an EMI re-issue of Pink Floyd’s 1979 classic double album The Wall.

Parlophone act Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto drifts 6-7, while sales of Sony’s Whitney Houston retrospective The Essential Whitney Houston have more than doubled on the week to lift it 17-8. XL’s first Adele album 19 completes the Top 10 places in the week so far by moving 7-9.

While the Ting Tings’ first Columbia album We Started Nothing debuted at number one in May 2008, its newly-issued follow-up Sounds From Nowheresville is at this point of the week starting life in 13th position.

Cooking Vinyl’s first Cranberries album Roses appears as a new entry at 27 in the latest midweeks, while other new entries include a David Sylvian retrospective from Virgin and new sets from Hospital’s High Contrast, Steamhammer’s UFO and Full Time Hobby’s School Of Seven Bells.

Joining Gotye and Dappy in the week so far’s top three singles is Emeli Sande whose Virgin single Next To Me slips 2-3, while Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Wild Ones featuring Sia holds at four and Ministry of Sound’s former chart-topper Hot Right Now by DJ Fresh featuring Rita Ora drops 3-5.

Brighton Christian worship leader and songwriter Matt Redman could be heading for a Top 10 entry this Sunday with his single Twenty Seven Million with L27. The single, issued on the Six Steps label via EMI, is the week to date’s eighth top seller, while also expect new entries this weekend from Regal/Parlophone’s Chiddy Bang, Popcultur/Columbia’s Madeon, Domino’s Arctic Monkeys, Hollywood/Polydor’s Demi Lovato and a Ministry of Sound combination of Utah Saints, Drumsound and Bassline.

They'll do PSB and drop out of top 20, even top 30 perhaps.

Cranberries will dive as well. Such a shame.

Impressive that Meat Loaf is still on his way to continue his string of top ten albums - all his studio albums since 1993 have gone top ten.

I'm delighted at how well Gotye's album is holding up - I expected it to have plummeted to the bottom of the top forty already if I'm honest! Glad a respectable amount of people are finding out how fantastic the record is, if the single keeps up this solid pace then the album should do rather well all told!

'21' still at #1 today - I was expecting Emeli to be back up there. Don't really care who's #1 out of them now '21' has had its 21st week at #1. Adele staying there would be good for the fact it's a non-mover I guess. So go Adele :kink: But I think Emeli could reclaim it by Sunday anyway, would be nice if we got some sales info (sadly the OCC report has just said that another week at #1 would put Adele's career weeks at #1 ahead of David Bowie and Dire Straits, with no sales info at all, not even her lead over Emeli). Great to see '19' should get another week top 10 as well, its 47th if I've counted correctly.

Gotye continuing to hold up very well with his album, might remain in the top 5 if Meat Loaf falls over the week. Whitney entering the top 10 with 'The Essential', I guess because the CD is now fully available and whatnot? Not a bad start for The Ting Tings considering the anonymity of this era but this album will sell absolutely peanuts compared to their debut unless something drastic happens soon. Woo for Watch The Throne climbing another place so far, Chase & Status continuing to hold a place in the top 40, High Contrast's new album showing up in the top 40 and The Maccabees re-entering (what's up with that?)

Then on the singles chart, appropriate woos for Jay-Z and Kanye climbing to #31 (top 30 by Sunday pelase), Utah Saints at #23 (higher than I expected :D), Arctic Monkeys set to outpeak Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair and Madeon showing up in the top 15 (again, higher than I expected, really hope it can hold top 20).

The Ting Tings are pretty much where I expected them to be at this stage. Hopefully they can remain top 30!
Ting Tings at #13, not THAT bad then.

Especially given the absolutely hideous cover picture. :(

If I had been intending to buy it in the first place, I would have felt compelled to download it, rather than buying the CD.

I thought it was alright myself...

I find the deluxe edition is far less offensive to my eyes which is good as Hands is the only reason to buy the album, really.
