What does it mean to "complete the album"

you must have a list full of questions...

it means you have downloaded a song from a certain album, and iTunes offers you to complete that particular album, buy and download the remaining songs.

What does it mean to "complete the album"

Like say you wanted to buy 21, and you'd already downloaded Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You, Turning Tables and Set Fire to the Rain for 99p each, and the album as a whole costs £7.99, you can use the "complete your album" feature to get the rest of 21 downloaded for only £4.03 (£7.99 - 4 x £0.99). In terms of the charts it adds a sale to 21 and subtracts a sale from the individual songs apparently.

Blue Jeans  to 34!! :w00t:

I hope this makes top 40 officially either this week or next week! :D

Also really pleased how Laserlight and We Are Young are doing!! :D

LaserLight could be in the top 10 on iTunes by the end of the week I think, so it should get top 40 this week.

I still don't really understand how 'Complete My Album' works. Imagine if 1 million people bought 'Rolling in the Deep' and it debuted at #1. Then the next week, each of the million completed '21'. Should 'Rolling in the Deep''s sales now stand at 0 - as the million have all been 'subtracted'?

I think that when you complete an album, it counts as an album sale - but I don't feel like it subtracts from the single sale. I recall when 'Hollywood' by Marina and the Diamonds that a few fans were posting in the comments underneath to purchase the single version and then complete the EP - insisting it counts as two sales.

It certainly happens in the US:

Five songs from Femme Fatale are listed on Hot Digital Songs, but "Hold It Against Me" isn't among them. How can that be? (The smash, which reached #1 on both the Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs, was #66 on the digital chart last week.) It's the impact of returns due to customers' "Complete My Album" option. Enough fans took advantage of that clever gimmick that the song showed negative sales this week. (Whoever came up with that idea deserves a raise.)

I think just not that many people use it to be honest, for that sort of thing to happen often, especially in the UK. Most songs climb on their album release week here.

I find a lot of the time that the album version and the single version are of different lengths (clearly they are if it's 'radio edit') - but I've had a few cases where I bought the single, went to complete my album the following week and it hadn't been discounted; only to discover there was a couple of seconds difference in the single and album version.

08. Sway - 'Levep Up (Radio Edit)'

With Katy Perry and Chris Brown advancing on Kworb, Sway could find himself suffering from an early 'weekend effect'. Will be interesting to see how far Breathe Carolina fall next week though - they've really surprised me (and likely everyone else) with 'Blackout' - the come Sunday top 20 UK hit.

I've been meaning to ask about this as well for ages as I use complete my album quite often, nice to have it cleared up, thanks!

19. Jessie J 'LaserLight (feat. David Guetta)'

20. Olly Murs 'Oh My Goodness'

Yeah I'm sure complete my album is counted in addition to the singles bought previously.
Or perhaps the OCC treat "complete my album" differently to Billboard?

Maybe, but I think iTunes probably count the sales the same everywhere around the world.

There's a thread on here from like a year ago when it was me asking how Complete my Album works, and that's what people on here told me. I'll see if I can find it.

I haven't heard it yet, but New Age by Marlon Roudette (from Mattafix) is now at #99 according to my iPhone. I've seen some people who seem to like the song, so just thought I'd put it out there! :P Is 59p, which may be part of the reason...

Here's one thread (back when I didn't know how it worked), but I remember discussing it other times aswell: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...p;#entry3191604

A top 5 of Roll Deep, Flo Rida, Eminem, Ne-Yo and Travie McCoy... that's 2010 for you.

It was a big hit in Europe last year, which is how most people on here know it I'd imagine. It's actually a pretty good song though.

Yes you have, it was entered to BJSCXXXVIII and made the final, where you came 5th with Karma Karma...!

So if, for example, someone bought 8 or 9 tracks individually, for some strange reason, and then went to complete the album they shouldn't in theory have to pay anything?

Oh, so I have... :teresa: I think I need to get my memory checked... :(

I guess so. I've never actually done it myself, but I used to bring it up a lot (I'm a very repetitive poster ), and that was always how people explained it.
