For me, it would be 16-19 (1981-1985).

A follow-up question - what is the very first song you remember?

I think mine would have to be The Beatles 'Octopuss's Garden' - I must have been only about 4 or 5 at the time.

I was most into chart music, well, now! I've been following the UK charts since 2010 :P

The first song I remember would probably be "happy birthday to you..." Am not sure what the first chart hit I remember was but when I grew out of nursery rhymes/childrens music I grew into pop/anything my mum played, before I was old enough to discover music and the charts for myself

I guess for me 2002-2007 (basically my senior school years ). Before then, I was only interested in a select few artists, and only heard what was on the radio or TV.

Now, I'm less into chart music (I actually follow the charts now, but I'm less into the music), but I think that's because it's less to my taste, rather than my age. I noticed though, at parties in my college years it was mainly older songs being played rather than the current (2009) songs, so maybe it is an age thing, I don't know.

1999-2001 (10-12) and then again 2008-present (19-23). Although that's slipped a little in recent months, there's not that many on the recent Now album I know :/

Earliest song is tied between Take That's 'Relight My Fire' and 'Go West' by the Pet Shop Boys...both came out in 1993 when I was 4/5. Although 2 Unlimited's 'No Limit' I remember really well too, I guess it was played a lot all that year though!

I'd say between 2006 - 2008 (15ish to just about 18 years old) I was most interested in the charts. I used to check them every week and listen into the chart show every weekend. Then I 'got a life' towards the end of 2008 and have never really recovered with my ultimate looning over charts. :P

The first song I can really remember is Savage Garden's To The Moon And Back, though I have a terrible memory and clearly heard MUCH more before then.

For me it all began when I was 8 which was 1992/3 - I fell out of love with it briefly between 2007-8 just liking a few artists then 2009-11 a reignited passion. I have now fallen out of the charts as there is now as there is too many similar songs...it seems the clubbers dictate the chart.

Hmmm....."Star Trekkin'" by The Firm *hides* I was 2 when it was released.

I was most into Top 40 music around 1998-2001 (12-15), that's when all my NOW CDs are from and I bought a lot of chart music in those years - I became quite obsessed with the chart in 2001 and if anybody remembers Dotmusic used to print out the Top 75 every week as some of the singles I bought didn't make the broadcast chart. After 2001 I became less interested with chart music and my tastes moved to less mainstream stuff (at the time) such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mew, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party etc.

The first song I remember from at the time is "Nothing Compares 2 U" when my mum used to drive me to swimming lessons, so that would have been around when I was 4.

Well I first got into music properly in 2006, the first CD single I ever had though was Innoceny Eyes by Delta Goodrem in 2003, I was a sophisicated 6 year old :P I couldn't say what the first song I remember is, I remember loving Believe by Cher when I was like 3/4 though (still do ) and dancing round to it :P

Nowadays though I am much more into music than I was in 2006/7/8. I'd say my interest level now (ie very high) started in 2009, around about when I started following music online as well. I have actually listened to the charts though since about 2003.

Probably 2004-2005 (age 7-8 :P ) mainly, I used to always watch the music channels then, and also now (age 15), mainly cause of this place. In 2010-ish I barely knew anything in the charts...

For the first song I remember, probably S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin'. The first song on the first CD I owned.

New Romantics era (1979-1988 Spandau Ballet, Police, Kim Wilde etc) I was only 12/13. Earliest track I remember my mum playing Norman Greenbaum "Spirit In The Sky" and I used to nick my mum's records to listen to the sixties music.

I would say my 'chart obsessed' days are over, but I still follow the charts every week and listen to the chart show every Sunday (well, what else have I got to do? :P ), still, 2006 when I was 13/14 was when I'd first discovered the charts and was really obsessed and used to talk about them all the time, I am still an unashamed chart geek but I do have other things that are more important in my life now

as for the first song, Eiffel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee) was my earliest musical memory when I was 6 and remains attached to me to this day, I do recall loving Mambo No.5 (both versions!) and Who Let The Dogs Out as well

1999-2001 were my years of full on chart loondom, where I could tell you what position a song was at on that particular week, recite all the #1s from that period in order (which is quite an achievement when you consider 2000 famously had the most #1s in a year ever, yet I used to be able to name every single one of them!), and other things I'd be embarrassed about now. After that, I mellowed a bit and become less obsessed, and have held a more casual interest ever since. The music now is... well, I'm sure some people like it, but overall it's not to my taste, but I still like the stats side of things, watching the way the songs move, etc, even if I don't necessarily appreciate them.

Stretch that back to 1997 and it's my favourite five year period as that's when I begun watching TOTP and hearing music of the time first hand. And I also liked 2003-2005 (which is the period where I bought more singles than ever before - ironically, considering the public did the opposite!)

First song? Hmm... I'd say Saturday Night in 1994. Or maybe that's just more imprinted in my mind because of HOW huge it was, but it sticks out anyway.

The first song I can really remember is Savage Garden's To The Moon And Back, though I have a terrible memory and clearly heard MUCH more before then.

Oh, and what a fabulous (and underrated!) song to be the first you remember!

I became obsessed with music in the 90s, specifically chart music back then as that's pretty much the only type of music I was exposed to. Then in the 2000s, pretty much overnight I turned to more obscure music to continue to provide interest. I can't imagine ever reaching a point where I'm not obsessed with music, certainly not now the internet has opened up doors to all sorts of music that I would never otherwise have heard.

Pretty much this. 2002 sticks out in my mind for some reason. I was interested in the charts in the late nineties but became obsessed in 2002. Going to Woolworths on a Monday to see their chart predictions! I remember people would ask me at school to recite random number ones and odd chart facts.

I think I stopped caring in 2007, maybe earlier. Majority of the music I listened to by then wasn't chart stuff.

First song i remember Slade Merry Christmas Everybody.

i have always enjoyed the charts at a similar level since around 2001(started following the mids on uk top 40 charts.com-then coolclarity in 2003) but i dont follow it because of the music although i love some of the records i mainly follow it for the stats and the cultural/historical relevance. i have always believed music has been a defining aspect of social history and thats why i especially love christmas music/charts to see how the songs became embedded in the social cultural memory of society.

A also love following the charts when i can each sunday on buzzjack and radio 1 because i love seeing the chart runs and the history of the artists and seeing if artists can add to a great chart discography.-

Most memorable chart moment - december 2003 when Michael Andrews/Gary Jules beat the Darkness to christmas no1 and sitting trying to eat my sunday dinner and stopping completely when the darkness got beat.

Then it would have to be RAGE getting the xmas no1 in 2009 but i didnt listen to that chart live as i was out.I think that was a seminal chart moment because people have taken more interest in the charts within the general public since imo as it brought the chart back into the mainstream media and then the midweek chart has started on radio 1 etc!

I first got into the charts in 2009, when I was 11 years old. I first heard about the chart when someone at school said Lady Gaga's Poker Face had got to number one, so I looked it up and have listened to the chart on BBC Radio 1 and checked out the OCC site ever since. Also that year, I discovered the "discography" pages for artists on Wikipedia and discovered Chart Stats, so I looked up pretty much every artist I could think of and looked at their chart peaks and chart runs :D

It must have been 2000/2001 when I first got into music - dancing to Kylie's Can't Get You Out of My Head in front of the TV is probably my earliest memory of music, so that's probably the first chart song I heard.

I'm still very into the charts now - I can't get enough of sales info! Seriously, I get more excited than Kobbar when Gezza76 opens a new sales thread! :w00t:

Why thank you, kind sir; I still hold it in high regards.
