She has to release this music if she wants any chart success. I prefer 'Beez In The Trap' etc. though!

Drake's doing seemingly well. And I don't hear a dance beat in his repotire. She tried one hip-hop track ("Massive Attack").

Just wondering ... does anyone think this sounds similar to 'Starships'?! :o Don't think it's been mentioned before.

No she doesn't need to do that type of music to have chart success. RnB/hip hop/soul songs in the top 50 on iTunes:

2. Flo Rida - Whistle

4. Stooshe - Black Heart

11. Paloma Faith - Picking Up the Pieces

15. Alex Clare - Too Close

19. Emeli Sande - My Kind of Love

21. Rita Ora - R.I.P.

23. Dot Rotten - Overload

31. Trey Songz - Heart Attack

32. D'Banj - Oliver Twist

36. Professor Green - Remedy

38. Conor Maynard - Can't Say No

39. Nelly Furtado - Big Hoops

40. Paloma Faith - Picking up the Pieces

41. Jay-Z/Kanye West - No Church in the Wild

46. Justin Bieber - Boyfriend

47. B.o.B - So Good

48. Jay-Z/Kanye West - Niggas in Paris

I wouldn't really classify 'Picking Up The Pieces' in that genre! It's more like something Adele will do.

And... isn't Adele a soul singer? If Alicia Keys sang Someone Like You or Turning Tables, they'd easily be considered RnB, and would be massive hits on US urban radio. Same if Nicki did those songs.

The point is, those songs I posted, would've kept Nicki's urban fanbase happy. They would've all been hits on US urban radio AND in the charts clearly.

Even Super Bass kept her urban fanabse happy tbh. There's a difference between a hip hop song with a lot of synths and a eurodance song.

I guess so but difference is Alicia always had a more urban side to her music, see 'Unthinkable', 'Girlfriend', 'My Boo', 'Karma' and countless others. They're completely different acts.

And Nicki couldn't really do those kind of songs, she doesn't have the vocal range imo. I agree in a way though, if she released 'Va Va Voom' as she intended to as the lead single, I doubt there would be as much of an uproar as there has been.

She's not going to release any of the hip hop songs. It's clear at this stage. All her new Twitter fans won't let her release one ever again now.

And no offense, but I probably like (and know) much more of Nicki's discography than most of you do.

I'm actually quite confused really. Most of you don't like any other hip hop artists, and most of you don't like those artists like Pitbull, Taio Cruz, Usher, etc. so why on earth do you like Nicki?

I always imagined Nicki would be releasing songs like these:

But instead we've just got all these Taio Cruz-esque songs.

Nicki WISHES she could release musical GEMS like the two above.!

WUT. You deleted the best song on the album.

Up to #55 on iTunes already. This is going to be EVERYWHERE this summer.

The bassline in the verses is really bugging me. Sounds exactly the same as another song, I'm sure. :(

Anyway, amazing song and I'm pretty sure I already prefer it to Starships! :D

The thing with Nicki though is she clearly has 2 seperate fan bases, the Hip Hop fan base who have been with her from the beginning, well before she made it mainstream, and the Pop fan base who have only discovered her in the past 18 months or so, which I'm guessing is why she made a half Hip Hop, half Pop album, to keep everyone happy. I myself would rather have a Nicki album full of tracks like Beez In The Trap, over an album full of dance RedOne bangers, only because I think she does Hip Hop better then anyone else does right now, and those type of tracks are the reason I fell in love with her in the first place, (also because I think others can do the dance bangers much better than Nicki).

Eric, you're going on about Nicki never having a Hip Hop top 10 or whatever, but in the UK who the hell does nowadays? Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Tyga, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa and Drake have all had massive hits in the States recently, all of which failed to set the UK chart alight. Yes, Nicki Minaj is a much bigger name than most of those, but that alone wont make the radio stations play a Hip Hop track where every second word is a swear word. Speaking of America, if she does ever do a full Pop/Dance album, there's half her US fanbase lost already, and she knows that.

I say stick with half Hip Hop, half Pop albums, or release 2 seperate albums in the same year, a Hip Hop album and a Pop album. Simple.

I'm sorry but if everything you're saying is the case then she has f***ed her career up something special - someone who had so much credibility having to resort to releasing TWO albums a year to keep everyone happy because she couldn't find her sound? That's bonkers. I understand if she's going to release a pop album then a hip hop album and reinvent her sound etc. but to have to juxtapose two genres onto half-and-half LP's is just an example of bad artistry. A CD is not a fucking Domino's pizza you can't just half-and-half it, it just doesn't work

She needs to meet in the middle, rap the verses and sing the choruses. A few songs with some dance beats, and a few more hip hop... Rihanna mixes Dance/Pop and R&B quite easily on her albums.
I agree. It's why 'Super Bass' was as huge as it was. She found a song that'd please both audiences at the same time and not alienate one or the other each time.

Exactly. There no way she can't bring both together cohesively on an album?!

I adore the album, but I'm with Lew - it's just weird to have it half and half, I'd rather that it was all mixed cohesively. Like Mikal said, Rihanna can easily do that, she has Man Down, What's My Name, S&M and Only Girl on the same album, all mixed together rather than half and half. Rihanna can do it once a year, why can't Nicki? She'll probably learn from some the negative reactions this era, I hope so anyway.
