June 8, 201213 yr I feel so gutted for Alexandra!! She works so hard and has been fighting an uphill battle with this era!! It is a total shame because she is the best Uk popstar we have had for a longgg time!! I don't care if people say she is full of herself. From what i have seen on twitter it is alot of people with their own self esteem issues that don't like her :( At least her fans love the album. I hope she finds a new label that will promote her properly. Down with capital and Radio 1..... Well I partly agree and I partly disagree. I would have considered myself a fan. She has released some great singles, she's a good performer and the first album was not a total disaster. However, I don't know anyone that doesn't get put off by her personality. She has some serious likeability issues. She comes across as so arrogant, needlessly brash and completely fake in interviews and appearances, and I struggle to watch her. Her X Factor stint made me cringe so much. So I do feel that her music is kind of pushed to the background now because as soon as you mention her, a lot of people just immediately think of her making a complete arse of herself. The performance of this album is abysmal, and I'd imagine she's seriously worried now.
June 8, 201213 yr I don't understand the Alexandra hate. How does she come across as arrogant and completely fake in interviews? If she does, so does Jessie J. Jessie J probably does it even more that Alexandra, yet Jessie J still sells albums and singles?
June 8, 201213 yr I'd say the music she's putting out just isn't as good. Let's not forget she had the kind of promotion and assistance at the beginning of her career that very few artists do, all she's doing now is launching an album without the aid of a massive TV Show to back it up with the best promotion that can be had.
June 8, 201213 yr I don't think Alexandra's fake or arrogant, but she does seem extremely irritating which I can see how people are put off, OK.com? really? that coupled with the fact that the material has just not been very good at all
June 8, 201213 yr Hmm Dark Side is at #29 on iTunes atm. Maybe Kelly is UK top 40 this sunday. I got a sad feeling on my soul that Can you Blow My will prevent her from getting a top 40 place though. :drama:
June 8, 201213 yr I don't understand the Alexandra hate. How does she come across as arrogant and completely fake in interviews? If she does, so does Jessie J. June 8, 201213 yr You're forgetting that Jessie J is white [& her singles have resonated with the public]. I don't think this has anything to do with colour. Has her colour changed since Overcome? Back on point I like Alexandra but I do agree that she can come across like someone you wouldn't want to be friends with. A bit over confident but I think you have to have a bit of that to be a performer. As someone said on her artists page plenty of popstars doing a lot worse and it gets ignored. She hasn't done anything apart from having a bit of an abrasive personality. I wouldn't stop me buying her records (if I liked the material) It's a massively complicated issue but this country does prefer mediorce "likeable" people to really talented ones it seems. Strange place the UK!
June 8, 201213 yr You're forgetting that Jessie J is white [& her singles have resonated with the public]. What a stupid post
June 8, 201213 yr Jessie J is on album 1 and still riding off that popularity. I doubt her second album will be as huge although it probably won't do anywhere near as bad as Burke's. As much as I dislike her, Jessie's songs do have some substance. Alex's problem is that the material is crap. People voted for her voice but she's covered it up with godawful autotune. I wish people would stop saying it's her personality that's the problem and just face the fact that the music is faceless at best.
June 8, 201213 yr That post referencing her skin colour was ridiculous. What a bloody stupid thing to say. I stand by my opinion that she comes across as arrogant. It's just my opinion though, I don't expect everyone to agree with me. However, I do also agree that the material is the problem. While some of the singles from Overcome were totally stellar, the two singles from this album are just appalling crap. Elephant didn't deserve to be a hit for anyone, ever, let alone someone with a voice like hers (the use of autotune/vocoder effects was just bizarre). It's just a pity, because as much as I think she can be a complete arsehole, she's a fantastic singer, and the first album showed that she's capable of being a bloody amazing pop star. The sad thing is, she probably won't fully recover from this. It's looking likely that the album will be well outside the top 20 come Sunday, and she won't have even sold 10k I'd imagine.
June 8, 201213 yr You're forgetting that Jessie J is white [& her singles have resonated with the public]. Are you being stupid, or being very stupid, or being ridiculously stupid? What has skin colour got to do with music liking when it comes to Burke and Jessie J?
June 9, 201213 yr It's a massively complicated issue but this country does prefer mediorce "likeable" people to really talented ones it seems. Strange place the UK! I don't perceive whatever talent she may or may not have to really make her stand out from anybody else. Everything she's done sounds incredibly generic to me, and unless you've been christened as the nation's sweetheart (Cheryl), that's not going to give you much success.
June 9, 201213 yr I think Gary's still No.1 offically, Flo Rida will be at least 3. There's no doubt at all that Gary's number 1. Flo Rida will probably end the week on about half of his sales at number 2.
June 9, 201213 yr I actually like Alexandra Burke's last two singles. I think she's gone more in a dance direction than pop. I think the problem is many artists struggle with the second album syndrome and success or failure is often dependent on releasing some strong singles and getting lots of airplay/promotion. The first single "elephant" received mixed reaction and didnt hang around in the charts suggesting the general public werent convinced enough to buy it. The second single has certainly underperformed and while I prefer it to the first one, obviously the general public are unsure at this stage and thats why the album has only received a lukewarm reception in sales.
June 9, 201213 yr I think Alex has better material than Jessie J but that's just my opinion. I mean, I'd take anything above the pretentious Price Tag. On a random note, Heartbreak on Hold was #4 at my local Morrisons.......Atleast it ain't bombing there :teresa:
June 10, 201213 yr You're forgetting that Jessie J is white [& her singles have resonated with the public]. This has nothing to do with race whatsoever. If I were you I would stop bringing this into the equation and winding other members up. Consider this a polite request to stop! Thanks
June 10, 201213 yr I think Gary's still No.1 offically, Flo Rida will be at least 3. He was #2 on the Friday mids, so won't finish lower than that.
June 10, 201213 yr It is so unfair for Alexandra Burke. It did a great album, acoustic versions of the songs "Let It Go", "Elephant" and "Heartbreak On Hold" are absolutely amazing and even the bonus track "Beating Still" is amazing too. I love her album so much :)
