Blur have two new songs out, 'Under The Westway' and 'Puritan Song' which was premiered on Zane's show tonight, and there is the possibility of a new album in the future. I think Westway is like a The Good The Bad & The Queen track, while Puritan is almost sounds like it could be a Gorillaz track with more Blur-ish lyrics (if that makes any sense).

Hopefully a new album is in the pipelines, these tracks aren't too bad to begin with.

The two songs are very different in style but also very Blur. I loved the way Damon changed the first line of Westway from "blue sky" to "grey sky" in the rooftop performance to match reality. If these two songs are their swan song they'll be going out in style.
Just realised they are both put now on iTunes. Prefer The Puritan on first listen (very Gorillaz as Pablo pointed out). Neither song would be out of place on say The Great Escape actually!

I actually cannot stand Blur (and I was never an Oasis fan, so it's not because I'm a fan of Oasis :P). Something just irks me about them and their songs. 'Country House' is about the best I can do in terms of what I like. But 'Under The Westway' is fantastic. So beautiful. It's like Blur covered 'Let It Be' and put their own sound on it. Just heard the other track which is nice too, but I definitely prefer UTW.

Really shocked myself as I didn't think I'd ever love anything of theirs.

I'm not a massive Blur fan but 'The Puritan' is AMAZING. Not as big a fan of 'Under The Westway' but it's pleasant enough.
They're the only major 90s band that didn't go shit - yes, I include Radiohead in that.

'The Puritan' is fantastic.

I echo Jonjo though, never really liked Blur apart from the fantastic 'Think Tank' album and some of their later 90's stuff (I really don't buy into Britpop and lad-like behaviour so voila)

but many of the brit-pop era songs are not very lad-like - Clover Over Dover, He Thought of Cars, Bad Head, Yuko and Hiro, This is a Low...really great and beautiful songs.

oh i meant them both as separate entities, Britpop for their general early sound (well actually most Britpop bands) and lad-like for the likes of 'Parklife' (ughhhh such an awful song)

Parklife is awful. Under the Westway is not really a huge jump from the songs I mentioned above. In fact it reminds me of Best Days.

They're the only major 90s band that didn't go shit - yes, I include Radiohead in that.

But they started off shit though (or at least, their first album is their weakest by a considerable distance).

Decent songs, better than the one they put out for Record Store Day the other year.

Parklife is not shit at all, and not that lad-like either. The only thing that makes it sound lad-like is Phil Daniels. The lyrics are actually quite deep if you think of it:

"I feed the pigeons I sometimes feed the sparrows too

It gives me a sense of enormous well being

And then I'm happy for the rest of the day safe in the knowledge

there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it"

To me, Blur have always been quite meaningful even when they do "fun" songs such as Country House, Parklife and Girls and Boys.

And yes, Under the Westway is brilliant.

They're the only major 90s band that didn't go shit - yes, I include Radiohead in that.

Absolute rubbish

On first listen to these tracks, they seem to be quite Damon heavy with not so much input from Graham. Little bit disappointed to be honest.

Unfortunately, I dont agree. I have really tried with In Rainbows. I cant find 10 seconds that I find enjoyable. I do like Codex from King of Limbs. They may still make music that moves me but I haven't liked an album since Hail to the Theif - which I think is underrated.
its good 2 have 2 new blur songs even if Graham's new album sounds much more interesting

Thought 'The Puritan' was quite awful myself.

'Under the Westway' is alright. Might be a grower.

Blur played for Steve Lamacq earlier with a setlist of Jubilee, The Puritan, Caramel, Trimm Trabb, Young & Lovely and Under The Westway. HAVE to listen to that!
And they're on Radio 2 now. The Puritan sounded brilliant earlier. They also played Intermission at the end of the 6Music set

I have always loved Intermission. Modern Life Is Rubbish is so under-rated.
