July 16, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts: Elton could be heading back to No 1 Source: MW 16:15 | Wednesday July 18, 2012 By Paul Williams Elton John has taken an early lead in his bid to top the UK artist albums chart for the first time in more than two decades. Good Morning To The Night, his newly-issued Mercury collaboration with Australian duo Pnau, currently heads the market by around 3,500 sales with Paul Simon’s revived Graceland in second place, according to Official Charts Company Data. Elton John last topped the UK albums chart at the end of 1990 with The Very Best Of retrospective, his second chart-topper that year as studio album Sleeping With The Past had led the list for five weeks in July and August. Fellow veteran Simon, meanwhile, will be looking to make history with Graceland becoming only the second album to reach number one on two entirely separate chart runs. The only album to manage this to date is The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main Street, which first reached the top in 1972 and did so again when re-issued by Universal in 2010. Graceland’s own revival has been helped by a combination of a Sony re-issue and this past week by Simon being the closing headline act at the Hard Rock Calling festival in London’s Hyde Park where he performed the album in full. US rapper Nas could make it two albums in the top five this Sunday for Mercury with his newly-released Life Is Good presently showing up as a new entry at four. It appears definitely on course to become his highest-charting album yet in the UK, beating his current peak of 23 achieved by his last album, 2008’s Untitled. A&M/Octone/Polydor’s Maroon 5 are at the moment around 200 sales ahead of Nas in third place with Overexposed, putting it in the same position it was last Sunday. Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran album + climbs 6-5, while two new entries on last Sunday’s chart are heading downwards: Ugly Truth/RCA’s Newton Faulkner release Write It On Your Skin is currently sixth having debuted at one last weekend, while Warner Bros’s Lianne Le Havas debut Is Your Love Big Enough slips 4-7. XL act Adele’s 21 looks like it is heading back into the Top 10 with sales up 19% on the week to move it 11-8 in the midweeks, while Def Jam/Mercury act Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange is ninth, having debuted at two last week just on download sales. Virgin’s Emeli Sande debut Our Version Of Events completes the Top 10 at this stage of the week, dropping 7-10. A Decca Broadway/Polydor revival of the original studio cast version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar appears as a new entry at 22, while Hans Zimmer’s Sony Classical soundtrack to The Dark Knight Rises is new at 34. The midweek singles chart has just one new entry among the Top 10 positions: X Factor 2011 finalist Misha B’s Relentless/RCA debut Home Run in ninth place. The eight tracks above it are exactly the same as those that occupied the top eight on last Sunday’s chart but with their order slightly reshuffled. Florence + The Machine’s Spectrum still leads, having given the Island act a first UK number one single last weekend, and A&M/Octone/Poldyor’s Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa is still at two, although only around 600 sales off the top position. Warner Bros act Stooshe’s Black Heart climbs 5-3 as Interscope/Polydor’s This Is Love by will.i.am featuring Eva Simons drops 3-4 and RCA act Chris Brown’s Don’t Wake Me Up falls 4-5. The Atlantic-issued Whistle by Flo Rida holds at six, Asylum/Black Butter’s Feel The Love by Rudimental featuring John Newman at seven and Parlophone’s Princess Of China by Coldplay & Rihanna at eight. Also keeping its position is Cash Money/Island act Nicki Minaj’s Pound The Alarm in 10th position. There is only one other brand new entry among the Top 40 positions at this stage of the week – AATW/Island’s Wonderful by Angel in 20th place – although tracks by Atlantic’s B.o.B. (featuring Taylor Swift), Parlophone’s Kylie Minogue and Interscope/Polydor’s Far East Movement featuring Cover Drive) have moved into the 40 for the first time. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Wednesday Update Top 40 Only Source: Radio 1/OCC Top 40 Singles 1 Florence + The Machine (600 copies ahead) 2 Maroon 5/Wiz Kahlifa 3 StooShe 4 will.i.am/Eva Simons 5 Chris Brown 6-10 9 Misha B* 11-20 15 Lady Antebellum 19 David Guetta/Lil' Wayne/Chris Brown 20 Angel* 21-30 23 Jay-Z/Kanye West 24 The Wanted 26 B.o.B feat. July 16, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Sheeran could join mentor Elton in top five Source: MW by Paul Willams Elton John could be joined in the UK top five by his Rocket company’s Ed Sheeran this weekend as he seeks out a first albums chart-topper in more than 20 years. Elton’s Mercury-issued Pnau collaboration Good Morning To The Light continues to lead the UK artist albums market with A&M/Octone/Polydor act Maroon 5 placed second with Overexposed, according to the Official Charts Company. Also figuring among the top five sellers at this stage of the weekend is Ed Sheeran who is managed by the Rocket Music Entertainment Group. His Asylum/Atlantic album + moves 6-5 on midweek sales with Def Jam/Mercury act Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange dropping 2-3 and Sony Music re-issue Graceland by Paul Simon rising 8-4 following his Hard Rock Calling headline appearance. The Def Jam/Mercury album Life Is Good by Nas is showing up as a new entry at six, while XL act Adele’s 21 is expected to return to the Top 10 this Sunday having climbed 11-7 in the latest Sales Flashes. There are no arrivals among the Top 10 singles at this stage of the week with the same 10 tracks in last Sunday’s chart returning. Island act Florence + The Machine’s Spectrum and the A&M/Octone/Polydor track Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa are one and two at this point of the week as they were last week, while RCA act Chris Brown’s Don’t Wake Me Up climbs 4-3 and Warner Bros signings Stooshe progress 5-4 with Black Heart, while This Is Love by Interscope/Polyor’s will.i.am. featuring Eva Simons drops 3-5. X Factor 2012 finalist Misha B is just outside the Top 10 in 11th position with her newly-released Relentless/RCA debut Home Run. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Florence + The Machine 2 Maroon 5/Wiz Khalifa 3 Chris Brown 4 StooShe 5 will.i.am/Eva Simons Top 15 11 Misha B 15 Lady Antebellum Top 20 David Guetta/Lil' Wayne/Chris Brown 20 Angel Top 30 22 B.o.B/Taylor Swift The Wanted Skrillex LMFAO Top 40 Far East Movement/Cover Drive 36 Kylie 40 Jay-Z/Kanye West/Frank Ocean ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Elton John vs. Pnau 2 Maroon 5 3 Frank Ocean 4 Paul Simon 5 Ed Sheeran Top 10 6 Nas 7 Adele Rihanna Top 15 Train Top 20 17 Paloma Faith Bee Gees Lady Antebellum Katy Perry Top 30 Jesus Christ Superstar One Direction Keane 26 Kelly Clarkson David Guetta Top 40 Alt-J Justin Bieber Florence + The Machine Mark Tremonti Hans Zimmer LMFAO NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Katy Perry 5+5 Carly 10+3 Cheryl 10+6 Rihanna 10+9 Emeli Sande 30+5 Albums Emeli Sande 5+6 Coldplay 7+7 Noel Gallagher 20+9 Cheryl 30+9
July 16, 201213 yr It should be another very closely run race between Florence and Maroon 5 this week, both falling a bit in sales though (maybe to 50-55k or so). I think Florence will still be ahead with a VERY narrow lead on Wednesday but lose out to M5 by Sunday, possibly by a similar margin to that which M5 lost by last week.
July 17, 201213 yr Author Maroon 5 for #1 this week just for a chart statiscally point of view, than they can bugger off for all I care. :D
July 17, 201213 yr Author In:Demand with Alex @InDemandUK There are currently 50 copies between Maroon 5 and Florence for the Number 1 spot in today's Midweeks - gonna be a close week https://twitter.com/InDemandUK :o
July 17, 201213 yr Maroon 5 will most likely get the #1. They have the weekend effect remember! Good for Misha. I hope she manages to maintain a top 10 position. She really needs to get the single in the top 10 on iTunes tho...
July 17, 201213 yr Maroon 5 will most likely get the #1. They have the weekend effect remember! But there's no reason to think that Florence won't benefit from that, too.
July 17, 201213 yr There is also the new single by Keane this week!!! :) I really hope the single will arrive in the top40!!! ;)
July 17, 201213 yr Misha B tweeted that she was #8 in today's midweeks She won't be top 10 by sunday though. -_-
July 17, 201213 yr Author I wish record companies don't hold back their new releases, Rita Ora could have smashed it this week, with sales over 80k surely.
July 17, 201213 yr There is also the new single by Keane this week!!! :) I really hope the single will arrive in the top40!!! ;) As much as I would love a Top 40 entry from Keane this week, I'm afraid to say the chances of them having another Top 40 hit is slim, (unless they get Calvin Harris to remix they're next single :kink: )
July 17, 201213 yr I wish record companies don't hold back their new releases, Rita Ora could have smashed it this week, with sales over 80k surely. Indeed, it would have been a call me maybe situation - if songs arent released straight away at least when the music video appears it would make sense - thats why fakes climb so high because video airplay has a massive effect for these types of artist!
July 17, 201213 yr Timebomb is at no. 22 per Sayhey http://www.sayhey.co.uk/forum/showthread.p...B-UK-midweek.... Mainly due to the physical, although all those will have been counted upfront so it will be heavily frontloaded. Still hope it makes top 40 though
July 17, 201213 yr But there's no reason to think that Florence won't benefit from that, too. They won't benefit as much as M5 if at all. 50 copies separating the two at the moment :o I think Florence will be #1 tomorrow (if she isn't already - ambiguous wording in that tweet) Edited July 17, 201213 yr by Bré
July 17, 201213 yr I would quite like Maroon 5 to get back to number 1, just for the chart run and the fact they're likely to lose it again next week! I would be pleased with either outcome though, 50 copies is very close so I don't think this can be called yet.
July 17, 201213 yr Nice to see Kylie in the Top 40, unfortuantly, it will probably plummet to low-ish Top 75 come Sunday
July 17, 201213 yr As much as I would love a Top 40 entry from Keane this week, I'm afraid to say the chances of them having another Top 40 hit is slim, (unless they get Calvin Harris to remix they're next single :kink: ) :( Why not? This new single is very very british! I mean, I really hope at least a top75...
