Album songs don't get to #1 do they? i can't think of an album song that went to #1.

I recall the album version of Meet Me Halfway did on iTunes IIRC but no, it's not that common.

My guess with the Good Time release is that they are hoping the success of the single will generate more album sales as thd album is only #24 in the midweeks and that is with low album sales. Other than that I can't see why they would release it on a thursday as it's not like a fake version was in the top 100.

I agree with this! If it does get into the top 10, people will click on it and see it is from the album. Then, Owl City and his label will be hoping they buy the whole album! Its just a way of giving the album a mini "top 10 effect" in a way, I doubt it will work though but you never know!

Domino and Titanium were both from an album but it is quite rare for a single to go to #1 after an album. However, the whole 'Good Time' release situation is very weird compared to usual releases!

Rihanna feat. Drake - What's My Name got to number 1 if I remember well.

Album songs thata ren't the first single usually don't go to #1, but this is the first single... I don't know if Good Time could climb that high but I hope it does.

You're all forgetting Airplanes. :coffee:

And also Telephone, Paradise, Poker Face, The Way I Are, Someone Like You (both the album version and the live BRITs version got #1 on iTunes) and I Gotta Feeling. It's seems to be only really, really massive songs that can manage it.

Gettin' Over You was also a post-album single that got to #1, but in that case it was the single version that got to #1 on iTunes. Usually with post-album singles it's the album version that stays the highest.

Mama Do the Hump almost did it too recently.

The only number 1 singles from 2010-12 that were released post-album were:

Telephone

Someone Like You

The Lazy Song

Titanium

Announced as single before but peaked after album release

Airplanes

Bad Romance

The Time (Dirty Bit)

What's My Name

Dance With Me Tonight

Paradise

Domino

Remix which got it to number 1

Gettin' Over You

Spectrum

Bad Romance also did that (although I don't know if that counts as this decade or the previous one).

That's dubious though, since Airplanes and Domino were announced as singles before the album got released too.

Oh yeah thanks, I'll edit it

Didn't realise Little Talks had risen so much! :o

Good Time  44!

One Direction are releasing a new song called "Live While Were Young" at midnight tonight, so maybe they might get into the itunes top 10 tomorrow.

It's going up for pre-order tonight, out 30th September.

Of Monsters And Men finally heading for the top 10! Guess that just proves the post-Olympics drop was just a blip.
Good Time, Little Talks, Some Nights, Under The Sun and As Long As You Love me all for top 10 please. With either LT or SN eventually reaching the top 3 (#1 spot ).

14 Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks

WOW, that was so predicted for me but still well deserved!
