What is this pedantry?

Bright red update for Taylor, bright green for Devlin

Have you heard? It's been OFFICIALLY confirmed now that Taylor has broken the record for the most downloads of a song in it's opening chart week by a female artist. :)

This is my favourite post on the whole forum. For SO many reasons.

I hope this gives an explaination.

Taylor seems to have stalled

Wow that's incredible. Is that worldwide? This has turned into the Born This Way of 2012!

Is Born This Way suddenly being looked on as a massive success? Or are you saying it's going to start underperforming soon :P

Oh! I thought it was a joke or some hidden meaning behind those posts that weren't obvious to me

I mean Born This Way broke a record for the fastest climb to #1 in the US, shot to #1 on iTunes in every country that uses iTunes, had massive airplay gains on the level of this in the US and totalled MASSIVE first week sales. Now WANEGBT is managing to match and in some cases beat those achievements.

That was the whole point of my post.

The poster that I quoted, judging by his username, I'm 99% sure the main reason he hates this Taylor Swift song is because it's just come out of nowhere and suddenly broken loads of records that Born This Way held (fastest cilmb to #1 on iTunes, by a big margin, biggest airplay update, also by a big margin, and today it's been confirmed she's beaten the first-week sales too). So I was just trying to be really annoying basically.

I know, it's highly embarrassing

And why I hate the song has f*** all to do with Born This Way  I hate it because it's embarrassingly cringe worthy. It's just a terrible song.

EDIT: I can't say that I'm surprised, though. I mean, Sexy and I Know It has sold over 800k here, so...er, yeah.

Edited by Lady Gaga

Now there's a first...

This time it was actually intentional.

Knowing my luck though, Lady Gaga will just come and get all her records back with her next single. :drama:

That was the whole point of my post.

Yeah I kind of got what you were getting at

It's silly to hate the Taylor song for that reason because it will take nothing away from how big BTW was in its first week. And being #2 in all those records is still incredible. And plus it all just sets up the hype more for Gagas next release when she can hopefully take the crown back off Taylor :kink:

Quick question, are Born This Way's sales count from the Friday to Sunday or its first full week on iTunes?

Yeah I kind of got what you were getting at

TO BE FAIR, Lady Gaga did do much better than Taylor on a worldwide scale. It's only in the US where Taylor has beaten Lady Gaga.

Also, iirc, Born This Way was only available for less than half of it's first US chart week, whilst I think Taylor's song has been available for 6 out of the 7 days, so there's that taken into account aswell. If both songs had 7 days, Born This Way would've probably sold more.

This whole thing has taken me so much by surprise though. I mean, I was expecting Lady Gaga's comeback single to do that well, but I was totally not expecting this for Taylor Swift. I was expecting it just to go to #1 on US iTunes and drop out the top 40 the following week, and do hardly anything in any of the other countries, like usual.
