September 9, 201212 yr There's also another problem that some people who chart potential BJSC entries who don't participate in BJSC at all which can be a misleading indicator as well. Neon Hitch being vetoed was really.....unexpected as well but I'm sure the mods will tell us why later anyways. Edited September 9, 201212 yr by Oricon
September 9, 201212 yr That's the thing with personal charts, the only reason I was even charting Jess was because of the contest - John had sent it over as a potential and I liked it and charted it as a result. Oh well. I agree with this completely! Obviously 10 charts is a bit of a stretch, but when it appears in 3 or 4 then that can just be because of showing your entries to other people. That's why personal charts need to be taken into account on an individual basis (which I'm sure Cal does as Silas mentioned yesterday) as if a song is in charts that are just from BJSC members, it is likely that PMing your entries to people for opinions is the reason why.
September 9, 201212 yr only heard of agnes from these vetoes so far i swear if someone sent kreayshawn and it didn't get vetoed
September 9, 201212 yr But on the other side of the coin, there was a large fanfare for it across blogs, there was a pop forum topic and I've been charting it for over a month. I briefly considered it back then but decided there was no point as in my eyes, I saw it as an obvious veto given I've been following her for a long time and I expected many others would have been too. Besides, she's even been vetoed from BJSC herself before. I recall Pixelated People was vetoed at the start of this year and that had similar hype. Granted, IIRC that was the contest directly after End Credits got top 10, but she still has far too large a following to be entered with new singles.
September 9, 201212 yr I'm glad you said that because you've just pointed out the precise flaw in the system! People don't know what they can and can't send because there guidelines are blurred or vague and there's no way anything can be challenged. Sorry but this contest is supposed to be fun. It kind of stops being that when you have to go through an endless cycle of finding new songs because you had a great entry which was vetoed for tenuous reasons. It's one thing to say "this song has appeared in more than 5 personal charts this month, you can't have it" but "this song seems to building buzz online?" (paraphrased from what was said about Jess Mills)? Really? That's the main reason the vetoing disappoints me, I'm not gonna start shouting expletives at the mods, but I think just vetoing something with the slightest bit of hype (which Gold seems to have, not much personal chartage, but a little bit of hype from Popjustice) removes the fun. I don't want to have to spend hours looking for an entry, because I'm worried everytime there's a 'fairly' known name attached to it, it'll get vetoed. I have to ask a question - would Sky Ferreira's new song have been vetoed? I'd say she has equal hype to Neon Hitch, if not slightly more, and I don't reckon Sky would've deserved a veto. I just want the contest to be fun, and all these vetoes for songs that are 'very mildly cheap' coming through constantly, isn't really that fun - you're one of tenterhooks waiting to see the fate of your own because it's SLIGHTLY hyped. I do appreciate what the mods do, and after that explanation from Silas, it's apparent how much work Cal puts in (as I'm sure they all do, don't mean to single out, but Cal seems a good example) - but it is all just getting too serious for what is ULTIMATELY a game. September 9, 201212 yr My entro got veto'd. It was in nobody's personal chart and Neon Hitch had no buzz regarding her. I have work in 1hour and have to find a new song within that hour, never mind get ready etc. BRILLIANT MODS. Oh Midnight, FANTASTIC. I guess I'll leave work early just to find a track, god the orginisation from the MODS is AWFUL. Tbh, I would appreciate a reason! I've seen more hype on Pixie Lott - I love your smile, WHICH GOT SWEET F*CK ALL. Oh dear. :manson: I think the whole thing is in dire need of reform. It'll probably be vetoed. :D I'm glad you said that because you've just pointed out the precise flaw in the system! None of us are keen on spending our spare time doing this to then get comments like the ones quoted above. I have no problem with people criticizing our decisions or discussing it with most people here who are civil and where there's some degree of mutual respect, but I have a problem with a few of you implying that we need to sort ourselves out as if we're stupid. My reply was a lot longer and nowhere near as civil as this, but quite frankly I can't be bothered wasting my time with a few of you who make this as unpleasant as possible. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't task that we get right most of the time. We're not perfect, and neither are you judging by your attitudes so if you've got a problem then feel free to complain to somebody who cares.
September 9, 201212 yr Being serious for a moment, I'm not saying the mods are doing a bad job, I don't AGREE with the decisions obviously, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate how much time/effort it takes. I think it would be a very good thing to have a formal list of written rules/guidelines/whatever to follow, certain criteria that WOULD mean a song gets vetoed, so we could check it out ourselves without having to wait for a decision. That doesn't mean using a ranking system similar to that in place needs to stop, but having criteria like 'must not appear in XX personal charts' and the like that are SOLID and non negotiable would be very good. In my opinion your honour(s).

September 9, 201212 yr Yeah that's my only problem, that for example Diandra (the second time) and Elen Levon can get through, but Neon Hitch can't. I know that there is clear criteria already though, and I'm not saying that the mods are doing a bad job because they're not, it's just that I don't necessarily agree with all the criteria it seems because I do think that honestly it's a bit too strict. I can see why veto'ing is in place but I don't think some of what's veto'd comes close to needing veto'ing, I'm not moaning or complaining it's just my view.
September 9, 201212 yr The most you could have in all honesty is guidelines - there are so many songs and circumstances out there that it would be impossible to cover everything in the black and white way you would like.
September 9, 201212 yr I just wish we could all go back to enjoying BJSC :( I'm sick of y'all being so serious, it's making my brain delirious etc etc. The only thing I really would like answered is WHY we've gotten more strict with the veto. Whether it's a delayed response to Icona Pop or what, I don't know, but if anything recent months have shown that the more obvious entries haven't really endangered the contest at all. Neon Hitch is quite similar to Florrie from a few months back, really, and I can't quite see the logic in banning her. I don't want to attack the mods and I honestly think they are doing a fine job but I would like to hear the reasoning behind the current approach. I know y'all have the same "if it's a danger to the contest, we ban it" motto every month but Wynter Gordon, Sia and Charli XCX were allowed very recently and I have to wonder what's changed in between now and then.

What a fabulous attitude. None of the posts you quoted were even especially rude, people just want to know what's going to change to make sure we don't end up in this situation again. A lot of good points have been made on the last page and you've just bulldozed all over them and basically dismissed everybody who isn't subservient to the mods' decision as rude and beneath you. Charming.
September 9, 201212 yr But Sia DNQ'd! Hardly a 'danger' to the contest  She would have been had you actually sent a GOOD Sia song. [/seriouslysaucyshade]
September 9, 201212 yr Can I just say, that even though I may be contesting the decisions made by mods, I do have respect for you all, I hope it hasn't come across like I'm trying to be dickheads to you. You make whatever decision your make as a majority, and that comes with work, I do respect that. I just have a different opinion on some of it, that's all! :P
