After seeing the 'Biggest 21th C collaborations' thread, ISTM this deserved a topic of its own.

I'm looking to list songs where an artist made a significant, or even major contribution to a song's success, but went unnamed because it either pre-dated the 'featured artist' craze, or because the artist preferred to remain anonymous. Names withheld for other reasons can be listed too.

The most obvious is Dido on Eminem's 'Stan', but others on big hits include :

Mike Oldfield 'Moonlight Shadow' - Maggie Reilly

Meat Loaf 'Dead Ringer For Love' - Cher

Who can name the most? :)

Ester Dean sings the chorus on Super Bass by Nicki Minaj, that's the only one I can really think of atm.

Pass Out - Tinie Tempah

Labrinth produces and sings the chorus

Dido is a featured artist on 'Stan'.

'All Of The Lights' is credited solely to Kanye West in quite a few places.

she certainly wasn't at the time

Justin Timberlake sang the chorus for Where is The Love, I think his label chose not to have him featured due to them not wanting him to be overexposed during his first albums run. Something like that. :P

Pretty sure she was. She's listed as a featured artist in the original tracklisting of 'The Marshall Mathers LP' at least. Maybe she wasn't credited on the actual single release I suppose.

Nelly Furtardo's All Good Things (All Good Things Come To an End) has Coldplay's Chris Martin harmonizing throughout the song, but he chose not to be credited. Although he probably wasn't a significant contribution to the song, it's one to add to the list.

An uncredited Christina Milian sings the chorus of Jennifer Lopez's 'Play'.
Is Emeli Sande credited for that Chipmunk song "Diamond Rings"?

Yeah, she's credited on that.

But I don't think Ms D (or Dayo) was officially credited on Oopsy Daisy.

Imagine if that little girl who sang on Ellen sang the chrous!

Oh, Dayo is Ms D? You learn something new every day! :o

Going back a bit Money For Nothing by Dire Straits features Sting's vocals and Kaye Bush is on Peter Gabriel's Games Without Frontiers. Those tow worked together again on Don't Give Up but Ms Bush was credited on that.
I'm not sure on Wiley's Heatwave, does Rymez actually gets credit on that track. As I thought it was Wiley feat. Ms. D

Some notable famous backing vocalists.

The Verve - The Drugs Dont Work feat. Noel Gallagher

Robbie Williams - No Regrets feat. Neil Tennant and Neil Hannon

Tom Jones - I Wanna Get Back With You feat. Tori Amos

Ke$ha isn't credited on Flo Rida's Right Round (although I think she might be in certain countries, just not the UK I don't think).

It was the USA where Ke$ha wasn't 'officially' credited (i.e. by Billboard) - although IIRC she was credited for the first week or two at #1 then dropped from the crediting for the remainer of the song's run. Bizarre.

Here's some bullet points from me.

I don't think Jodie Conor and Tania Foster were properly credited on Roll Deep's chart toppers. Then they released 'Take Control' ft Alesha Dixon and flopped

Recently Sway scored a top 10 hit with 'Level Up' with guest vocals from Kelsey. She was credited in the official video but not on the single cover and iTunes

DJ Fresh's first top 40 hit 'Gold Dust' featured Ce'Cile.

Flo Rida's Club Can't Handle Me with that mystery female guest vocalist. (does anyone know who she is?)

Sak Noel's 'Loca People' featured Esthera Sarita.

Sam and the Womp's 'Bom Bom' featured Bloem de Ligny, this is hard to call as Wikipedia says she is a part of SATW however she has had songs by herself and with other groups.

Redlight 'Get Out My Head' feat. Nicole Jackson and Redlight 'Lost In Your Love' feat. Baby Sol & Lottie Tricity.
