Sorry try the new release topic, it seems to work in there for some reason!?!

Sorry all who were confused about my post at the weekend saying they were only announcing the top 3 - I was under the impression that 'In New Music We Trust' from Wednesday-Friday meant Huw would only be announcing the top 3.

Genuinely shocked by the inclusion of Chvrches to be honest, I think the Sound of 2013 should focus more on who will actually get success in the coming year. To me, Chvrches' music has a long way to go before it'll chart properly - at best they'll follow suit of Niki & the Dove and get a T200 hit.

As for Laura Mvula, I predicted correctly that she'd make the T5 - and deservedly so. I feel like she could well be a Clare Maguire/Jessie Ware character and achieve a few T100/200 hits, but do relatively well in her first week album peak (+ sustain sales). Wonderful voice though, can't thank the BBC enough for introducing me to her.

Angel Haze in the same position as Azealia Banks is interesting - what've the BBC got against female rappers being crowned their winners? Haha. For me, these two'll be competing for the title in 2013 - can't wait to see what they both bring.

Prediction on 22/12

01 Haim

02 Tom Odell

03 Laura Mvula

04 Kodaline

05 Angel Haze

Not sure who to stand by for a T2 placing now - in an ideal world, Odell would miss out - he's already won the more prestigious award. For me, that leaves AlunaGeorge, Haim and Kodaline - I think AlunaGeorge'll definitely be in the T2; then it's just a matter of which 'alternative' sound they go for...

02 AlunaGeorge

01 Kodaline

Is my final prediction, though I'd happily welcome someone like Arlissa or A*M*E ruining the predictions.

King Krule for number 1

So, the #1 spot seems to be a toss-up between Tom Odell, Haim and Kodaline! :o[/size]

I never got the optimism for Haim, I never thought of them as top3 contender, let alone #1 !

There're been a few surprises though, and I don't see Tom Odell missing the top 5 completely so I guess he's a big contender for winning this. Surprising because I thought Bastille would be on the list and a sure top 5 contender as well, especially since "Pompeii" seems like a guaranteed hit.

Oh and I love Kodaline ("All I want" might be my favourite ballad of 2012) but I don't think they're going to win this.

Tom Odell is going to win this isn't he :mansoncheer: I really hope he does a Michael Kiwanuka, I heard one of his songs on Radio 1 and it was very boring. AlunaGeorge and Angel Haze being top 3 is great :D
Tom Odell will win, he's FAR better than Michael Kiwanuka, all of the songs I've heard from him have been excellent, dramatic pop.
Haim or Tom Odell please! But AlunaGeorge and Angel Haze top 3 is great

omg @ angel haze and alunageorge!! chvrches at #05 is amazing too

it's good none of the best are set to win because it seems like more of a curse than anything these days

Is Kodaline that band with the brilliant video for one of their tracks? If it is, then them for the win please! But I do love Haim though and really starting to warm to Tom Odell too.

(AlunaGeorge was the rightful winner though. :coffee:)

Tom Odell is nothing like Michael Kiwanuka! He's obviously going to get comparisons to Ed Sheeran of current artists, but from what I've heard of him, his music is a lot more slick. I'm like any of Tom, Arlissa or Haim to win (although I haven't heard anything by any of the other artists left except The Weeknd)!
Fantastic to see AlunaGeorge finishing as the runners-up - I predicted correctly. I'm hoping that with Haim topping the Blog Sound of 2013 and Tom Odell winning the Critics' Choice award that someone else is crowned the BBC's Sound of 2013; but sadly I can't see it happening. I'm adamant that Tom Odell'll be crowned the winner tomorrow morning; not that he doesn't deserve it.
At this point I'd reckon Haim to win then. They've also had big enthusiasm from the 'oh let's have guitars back' crowd, except their rave reviews have spread out a lot further than the likes of the NME.
I definitely don't think that Haim are going to win at this stage. Well, they might, but my money's on Tom Odell.
I haven't heard anything by Tom Odell (judging by comparisons to Ed Sheeran, I don't think I'd be too bothered so he can wait). I listened to tracks by Chvrches and Haim which were both brilliant - and a Palma Violets track, which wasn't. So far, out of the artists I've listened to, I'd rank them Haim > Chvrches > Palma Violets > AlunaGeorge.
I know it isn't exactly an objective measure, but outside of this thread I haven't seen a mention of Tom Odell anywhere. Haim pretty much always comes up in articles for upcoming acts for the year ahead though...

People are expecting him to do well because he is the 'Critic's Choice' award winner, are they not?

Are you kidding? He's mentioned all the time on Radio 1!

Haim are mentioned in articles as well, but they don't strike me as an act that would have long-term success in my opinion.
