What albums do you think will sell over 100k in a week this December? Looking at the new release schedule, it seems Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox should easily pass 100k, if not 200k. Other albums I think could sell 100k+ in a week are:
  • Emeli Sande - Our Version of Events
  • Michael Buble - Christmas
  • One Direction - Take Me Home
  • Olly Murs - Right Place Right Time
  • Rihanna - Unapologetic
  • Robbie Williams - Take the Crown
  • Rod Stewart - Merry Christmas, Baby
One Direction and Emeli Sande are apparently performing on X Factor Final, so 100k+ isn't out of the question for the latter (I would expect One Direction to sell 100k+ regardless). Rod Stewart has a Christmas Special on ITV1, so it could possibly sell over 100k.

Buble certainly will in the week before Christmas. Maybe even w/c 9th Dec. too.

I think Bruno Mars is going to shock everyone and open huge. Well, at least I hope so.

I wonder how many albums will sell over 100k the week running up to Christmas (17th-23rd) or is the week of Christmas the biggest week? (24th-30th). I remember in 2009 the whole top 10 sold over 100k. I can't remember 2010 or 2011.

Olly, One Direction, Buble and Bruno all definitely will, i wouldnt rule out emeli sande doing it either. How i would love kylie to be on the list as well but it simply wont happen unfortunately.

I wonder if Girls Aloud have an outside chance after their documentary on the 15th of December? Probably not I guess.

Nah the biggest week is the 17th-23rd the following week will be the final week of the year where sales will fall but will stay reasonable cos of the hmv winter sale and single sales in this final week will break records as usual with the whole top 10 selling upwards of 60-70k and the top 20 30k +!!

I think McFly and Girls Aloud have xmas tv specials too and we have the royal variety show this week - so all the above should sell well and we will have to wait for the offical xf finalists to see the line-up, hope theres a shock like coldplay last year.

You also find a shock first no1 of the year - like Paradise rose to no1 in the first week of 2012 and sold over 100k in one week due to the gift card/XF final performance!!

I think the 'shock first #1 of the year' has a serious chance of being 'Gangnam Style' returning to #1, which I believe would break numerous records.
I wait until the xf final to say what will be the song to jump to no1 after the xmas no1 - i think it could be Bruno!!

There could also be a 'shock #1' the week before Christmas, because there's a chance the X Factor Winner's Single won't reach number one at all judging by who's still in the competition, even if it's out of the Christmas number one "race".

itll still sell 100-150k easily enough - all those people out shopping in tesco will lap it up!!

I know it's hanging around at the moment and it's something of a party record that obviously suits the festive season, but I very much doubt it will have the 'legs' to still be in contention for that week. You're still talking 50-60k in sales.

Edit: The 50-60k in sales is actually for the second chart week of the year, not the first. You'd need substantially more than that to make no.1 in that week.

Plus wan't it also reduced to 59p?

So? Gangnam Style could achieve that. A lot of people might not have the song already. It's a foregone conclusion that Gangnam Style will go back into the Top 5 of the iTunes chart in the New Year, I'd say that it's certain to go back into the Top 3, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it went back to #1.

I don't think that it would break the record for the longest period of going back to #1 though - isn't The Beatles' She Loves You the holder for that particular record?

That is pretty meaningless to be honest, you could say that about *any* track.

No.1 on iTunes with one version or combined?

Even combined I'd say highly unlikely. It will get something of a boost from gift card week but that's about it.

I think it will hang around the 5-10 positions overall until that week then plummet. If it was in contention for no.1 in the New Year it would be on course to be a million seller, given that it has sold 620k to date.

I think that is correct, 7 weeks.

However it's already been 8 weeks since Gangnam style was at no.1, so if it did make in in the New Year it would smash that record.

Moving away from Gangnam Style (which I think IS the most likely contender for #1 in the first week of the new year (New Years parties will go crazy for it)...

I reckon we'll only have 3 or 4 100k+ sellers the week before Christmas this year. Sales just aren't great still, compared to previous year. They were always going to increase in the run up to the big day, it happens every year.

I doubt Buble'll do 100k in a week this year. I'm thinking Olly, Emeli, Rihanna and possibly Bruno Mars.

'Gangnam Style' would also break the record for lowest position dropped to between two runs at #1 (Bruno Mars going down to #4 was the previous record AFAIA?), having already gone as low as #7 and possibly lower before New Year.

(Obviously both this and 'lonest rime taken to return to #1' are excluding Elvis x3, George Harrison, Queen and Baddiel/Skinner/The Lightning Seeds which returned to #1 after being re-released).

Hopefully as many as possible of those albums can sell 100k in a week. One Direction and Emeli Sande are the most likely, following the X-Factor final performances. I'd like to see Olly Murs, Rihanna, Michael Buble and Bruno Mars all manage it too - finally restore some faith in the album chart. Coldplay - Live 2012 perhaps?

Exactly. That's why a lot of people who don't have it will realise the appeal of the song and will buy it on New Years Day. :D

Itll be interesting to see but i definately think Buble will do at least 1 week over 100k this year and sell around 500-600k taking him maybe over 2 million sales!
