Odd that we posted that at exactly the same time  Obviously, that's a fair point, but its the song not charting AT ALL when its selling enough to be as high as the top 10/wherever that bothers me. Like you said, they should separate the sales so it at least can chart in its own right...to not chart the song at all when its clearly selling more than many is quite ridiculous.

Don't forget, with the pre-order not the song, but the album is selling, you can just get the song immediately (at least that's my point of view), and iTunes shows these let's say "pre-order sales" on the songs chart too, which shows us a false picture.

The actual, only song purchases should be counted separately as you say. :D

Whether we look at this or the other way, we don't know where the song would chart if it won't be a part of an offer. It could easily beat anyone too though without this pre-order misery.

Holy shit at David Bowie. I didn't see him at #1 straight away so I scrolled down to see where he was and thought he had only climbed to #72 (he has a second version there somehow) then scrolled back up and was like

I'm not a huge fan of Bowie but I don't hate him either, good to see him doing so well if only for the sheer unexpectedness - and hopefully it will make the OCC change their mind about the pre-order singles rule like some others are suggesting.

Bon Jovi still climbing, up to #9 - this one can't possibly be ineligible (I just checked to make sure what with Bowie-gate :P) so for the same reason as above I'd love to see this in the top 10 officially.

2013 certainly off to a strange start chartwise.

So does this mean Bowie will drop pretty soon? Because the album wont be pre-ordered like 100,000 times this week will it? Or have I just completely lost the plot?

:drama:

OK...

On the drive home I was told Bowie had a new single and I was like 'he still makes songs?'.

And now he's at #1 on iTunes

What is it with old acts going top 10 on iTunes this week with no hype or anything?

David Bowie is #1 :o :o :o

Fackin ell! this is the most surprising thing i've ever seen on iTunes. This week has been like a time machine so far with Bon Jovi being in the top 10 as well. Now it's like how things were before i was even born with David "1980's" Bowie at number 1.

EDIT: I don't know if this has played a part in what has happened but today is David Bowie's 66th birthday.

It may not be anyway but we can presume that a lot of people are downloading the track in isolation given it was top 2 on iTunes before the album preorder was and album download sales are a lot lower than singles.

Ten seconds of research would show you that it's hardly random or without hype.

Sod's law dictates that even were the OCC to make an announcement tomorrow saying the stupid pre-order rule had been abolished as of this week "Where Are We Now?" wouldn't sell enough to make #1 anyway, and were it to develop a massive lead and hold it until Sunday it'd still be ineligible to chart.

wow, wonder if will this end up like when Britneys 'Blackout' got 'shout out' of the #1 spot in the U.S. at the LAST min. due to the Billboard rules changing at the last minute (allowing the Eagles Wal-Mart exclusive/only album) to hit #1?

It's not really a surprise to see Bowie so high, it's had an utterly ridiculous amount of hype today. I can only hope that it's allowed to chart...
Its Bowie B*tch for #1 ;P

David Bowie :left: #1 - HE'S STILL THERE!?!?!?

Bon Jovi  #11 apparently.

Lost  #44

Animal  #66

Learn To Love Again  #134

Backseat Freestyle  #104 :cheer: for these four!

I've finally got the chance to listen to Bon Jovi's new song, and it's actually really, really good! Can't say the same about David Bowie, but I'm not really a fan of his anyway from the songs I've heard of his.

33. Just One Last Time (feat. Taped Rai) - David Guetta

38. Not a Saint (Radio Edit) - Vato Gonzalez, Lethal Bizzle & Donae'o

52. Kiss the Ring - My Chemical Romance

56. Magnetic Eyes (Radio Edit) - Matrix & Futurebound

Where Are We Now? is actually nowhere near his best, but then again it would be difficult for it to get close given Starman, Ashes to Ashes et al. Probably the same to a far far far lesser extent with Because We Can but I don't expect anything other than dull from a Bon Jovi lead single these days. It's My Life and Have a Nice Day are the best they've done for decades and both are still in "guilty pleasure" territory.

I had no idea this was anywhere near that high. :o

I wish Bowie was eligible. :( We need something interesting to happen.

From what started as a very quiet week, it's suddenly come alive. Two OA/OS releases and multiple post-album songs FINALLY climbing up the iTunes chart...

01. David Bowie - Where Are We Now? (& 74)

08. Calvin Harris feat Tinie Tempah - Drinking From The Bottle (& 63)

11. Bon Jovi - Because We Can

13. One Direction - Kiss You

33. David Guetta feat Taped Rai - Just One Last Time

36. Emeli Sande - Clown

38. Vato Gonzalez, Lethal Bizzle & Donae'o - Not A Saint

44. Frank Ocean - Lost

52. My Chemical Romance - Kiss The Ring

56. Matrix & Futurebound - Magnetic Eyes

64. Conor Maynard - Animal

94. Flo Rida - Let It Roll

Thank f*** 'Just One Last Time' has finally cracked the top 40. Didn't think it would ever get there :cheer:
