January 21, 201312 yr I buy albums physically from either online or the high street and I still will as long as they're available, if I can't be bothered, I'll stream via Spotify or occasionally illegally download tracks onto my computer. I don't download albums mainly because I don't really want to pay for individual tracks not knowing how they sound. I'd have them in my iTunes library taking up space when I doubt I'd come back to a few of them which seems a bit of a waste. You may say this isn't any different for a CD, but I can listen to these on my computer or something and then put the tracks I like on my iTunes and just leave the rest on the CD and you still have a nice picture and collection of songs on the shelf in case you ever want to go back to it. January 21, 201312 yr Physical Albums. I like to see them on my shelf, & to be able to read the sleeve notes etc. I don't feel that it is a 'real' Album, unless I can pick it up, open the case, & take out a CD. Only this !!!! I hate downloads, don't care if they are legal or not. I never download any music from Internet and don't have any interest in it. Voted for High St shops. January 21, 201312 yr Online and high street shop. I live in a small town so i have limited access to high street shops but i buy them locally when i can, if the cd i want is not available then it is usually play.com i use.
January 21, 201312 yr I used to buy about 150-200 CD albums a year at least. In 2012 I bought The Weeknd's Trilogy, iamamiwhoami's Kin, Paul Simon's Graceland and two copies of Patrick Wolf's Sundark and Riverlight. Everything else I legally downloaded, often for no more than four or five pounds in it's release week so it's saved me a fortune over the year.
January 21, 201312 yr None of the above (streaming) I used to download albums (rarely) but now I've moved to Spotify so if I ever want to listen to an album I'll listen to it there - or on YouTube if it's not available on Spotify. However I do like individual tracks more than whole albums. I've never bought an album physically myself - and I no longer get given physical compilation albums as presents because of streaming services.
January 21, 201312 yr I buy physicals. Preferably from the High Street but sometimes online (last year I lived nowhere near any shops and couldn't drive). I won't download an album. I will if the physical ever dies out but not now. I download either single tracks or new tracks from a deluxe edition of an album. Never do illegal downloading and rarely stream.
January 22, 201312 yr Author None of the above (streaming) Didn't even think of streaming, possibly because I won't use it myself. With hindsight though, I would have included it as a poll option, along with 'buying 2nd hand'.
January 22, 201312 yr I prefer actual record shops for albums, though I do order off the net for oldies or rarities which you wont find in shops. I don't like downloading albums, it's just not the same, and without a proper cover I forget they are even there and dont play them. singles, you have to download now, so I do, a lot, unless they are radio favourites then I tape off the radio and wait for the Now album, buy that. I don't illegally download, ever, though I do have copies of friends cd's, and if I decide I like them after playing them, I buy them. So, I'm in favour of "illegal" copying that promotes sales which wouldnt otherwise be sales (even if it's down the line a few years when times are better), but not in favour of illegal copying which is an actual lost sale forever. Bottom line, you want music, you have to support it cos the record companies drop acts like bricks these days. I know we're in a terrible recession but music as a percentage of income has never been cheaper, and is way cheaper than computer games. When I was a teen, average wages were about £25 a week, singles 50p and albums £2, so you had to pick and choose your absolute faves (pocket money was 50p). average wage now is £500 a week, I dont know what pocket money is, but even unemployed people I know (and I know lots) can afford to buy occasional singles and albums for 79p or £3, barely what they cost 40 years ago. just a thought....! :)
January 22, 201312 yr I nearly always buy online from HMV. If it's a reissue with new tracks I download the new tracks
January 22, 201312 yr Who knows, the closing of HMV may mean a resurgence in independent record shops - here's hoping.

I do agree that music is cheaper than ever before (relative to earnings) though.
