February 5, 201313 yr would say Jake Bugg or Les Mis has a better chance, Biffy only leading the Amazon MP3 chart currently whereas Bugg leads the Amazon/ITunes sales chart. Wouldn't be surprised if he's No2 unless one of the others are getting good physical sales somewhere Les Mis album is going to be one that sticks around for ages more than likely
February 5, 201313 yr I so hoped Kimberley Walsh would be top 10 at this early stage as i believed if she was she would get achieve a top 20 album, i think top 25 is a realistic prediction for Sunday now. 5,000 lead for The Courteeners is excellent as i think they hold onto to the number 1 position with such an early lead.
February 5, 201313 yr Whether Kimberley Walsh's #14 chart position falls throughout the week depends on the audience for album. If she has managed to appeal to the older audience who don't rush out and buy on the first day, it could rise. Joe McElderry's positions tended to rise in the latter part of the week as supposedly his older audience bought their albums during their weekend shopping.

Either way i very much doubt this will hold on to a Top 20 placing - Her hardcore fanbase would have pre-ordered or bought on day of release and there seems to be very little promo or hype, The only thing going for this album is the low sales climate.
February 5, 201313 yr I hope she follows in Joe McElderys steps and improves on position as the week progresses.
February 5, 201313 yr Yes, I think Kimberley could rise throughout the week, the grannies who watched Strictly will be shopping at the weekend and decide to buy it. I'm sure the NTA performance has done her more harm than good though!
February 5, 201313 yr She was on BBC Breakfast this morning, could help today. Hopefully she'll stay top 20 by Sunday night.
February 5, 201313 yr I would agree the nta would have done Kimberley no favours but its done now and cant be deleted!
February 5, 201313 yr BBC breakfast going to plan would increase even a few sales of the album, has she any more promotion lined up for the remainder of the week?
February 5, 201313 yr Kimberley's NTA performance was fantastic thank you very much! :smoke: #14 is pretty much what I would expect, if she has promo during the week, it will hopefully keep her Top 20, maybe #18-#20.
February 5, 201313 yr Wow at The Courteeners, would be one of the most bizarre #1 albums in ages if it can hang on (and 5k is quite a good lead although not insurmountable; doubt they'll hold #1 but they should get their first top 3 album). For a fairly non-descript indie band you'd expect them to be hit hard by diminishing returns and be struggling for top 10 or even top 20 with this album a la The Feeling (and they were never near as big as The Feeling in the first place). I suppose like Charlie said the surprising success of 'Lose Control' foreshadowed this to some extent though. Kimberley is actually a bit higher than I expected considering she's lower than that on iTunes and according to Rich at least she's not exactly extensively stocked in the shops. She'll definitely outpeak Nadine then but could go either way if she beats Nicola or not. Disclosure at #3 is fantastic news, they now have a fairly substantial lead over the rest of the pack bar Macklemore and, for now, Fall Out Boy so they could actually stay that high at this rate! Speaking of Fall Out Boy, disappointing we don't have a position for them today - they should be top 10 tomorrow though. Edited February 5, 201313 yr by Bré
February 5, 201313 yr Really hope Eels do well. Their last three albums went top 20 or thereabouts, so hopefully 'Wonderful, Glorious' can do the same.

The difference with the likes of The Courteeners (also see The Maccabees) is that they were never that big in the first place so don't have many sales that can diminish and they actually get better and progress with each release, most bands of that era peaked (by a huge distance) with their debut album, The Courteeners are an exception.

I suppose that makes sense - it still seems a bit out of the blue though, with The Maccabees it did 'feel' like they were getting bigger whereas The Courteeners' success just seems completely unprecedented apart from the success of its lead single (and even that didn't really foreshadow a potential #1 album, considering the lead single from 'Falcon' went top 30 but the album missed the top 5). This is probably just a case of me being ignorant though.
February 5, 201313 yr I'm surprised to see Bingo Players ahead of Disclosure (assuming they are), Hopefully Disclosure can peak top 2 at least, it's my song of the year (so far) by FAR.

I would like to add that it doesnt help when barely any radio stations have playlisted the Couteeners. I always thought their music was pleasant if nothing unique. Radio 1 should really have playlisted them given the relative success of the OA/OS release in December Edited February 6, 201313 yr by steve201
