February 11, 201313 yr Author Midweek Charts: Foals gallop to midweek No 1 Source: MW by Paul Willams Foals could be on course for their first chart-topping album this weekend as Avicii looks to head the UK singles countdown for the first time. The Warner Bros band's third album Holy Fire has opened up a narrow sales lead in the week to date, but could be caught by the Les Miserables cast recording, according to Official Charts Company data. Foals' last album Total Life Forever peaked at 8 in 2010, while their debut Antidotes made it to No 3 in 2008. Polydor's Les Miserables album is the week so far's second top artist seller, having returned to No 1 on Sunday. Sales for the album are 18% up on the week, while sales of Virgin act Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events rise 12% to lift it 4-3 on the midweek chart. Jake Bugg's self-titled Mercury album falls 2-4, while Rhino/Warner Bros's re-issue of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours holds at 5. RCA's Bullet For My Valentine look poised for their third Top 10 album with Temper Temper presently appearing as a new entry at 6, while veteran Richard Thompson is on course to reach a new career chart peak in the UK with his new Proper album Electric at 9 in the week so far. His highest chart peak to date is 20, achieved by his last studio album Dream Attic in 2010. Mumford & Sons' second Gentlemen Of The Road/Island album Babel appears to be benefiting from its Grammy Album of the Year accolade with its UK sales up 153% on the week to lift it 17-7 on the latest Sales Flashes, while 14th Floor/Warner Bros's Biffy Clyro fall 3-8 with Opposites and Bruno Mars' second Atlantic album Unorthodox Jukebox progresses 12-10. Outside the Top 10, new arrivals include Warner Bros act Emilia Mitiku's I Belong To You, A&M/Polydor-signed Modestep's debut album Evolution Theory, Canadian duo Tegan & Sara with their seventh album and poised to be first UK chart entry, the Warner Bros-issued Hearthrob, and Ocean Colour Scene's second Cooking Vinyl album Painting. On the singles midweeks Swede Avicii is currently around 15,000 sales ahead in his quest for a first UK No 1 single with the brand new Positiva/Virgin-issued I Could Be The One with Dutch DJ and artist Nicky Romero. If it does reach the top it will also be Positiva's first chart-topper under Universal ownership. Avicci has previously climbed as high as 4 in the UK with Levels and Collide with Leona Lewis. Following its climb to No 1 last Sunday, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz's Thrift Shop on the Macklemore label drops to 2 on the midweeks, while Parlophone's Gabrielle Aplin follows her chart-topping cover of The Power Of Love with Please Don't Say You Love Me new at 3. Island's Disclosure featuring AlunaGeorge single White Noise drops 2-4 as Stay by Def Jam/Mercury's Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko climbs 8-5, while Ministry of Sound's former No 1 Get Up (Rattle) by Bingo Players featuring Far East Movement drops 3-6. At this point in the week Columbia act Calvin Harris holds his place of 7 achieved last Sunday with Drinking From The Bottle featuring Tinie Tempah and Virgin's Emeli Sande drops 4-8 with Clown. The Interscope/Polydor-issued Scream & Shout by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears slips 6-9 and Mercury's Taylor Swift loses a place to 10 with I Knew You Were Trouble. Outside the Top 10, there are new midweek entries from Warner Bros's Foals, Mad Decent's New York band Baauer and RCA's Justin Timberlake with in Mirrors the second released track from his forthcoming album The 20/20 Experience. Big climbers outside the Top 10 positions include Decca act The Lumineers' Ho Hey (up 28-11), Atlantic signing Bruno Mars' When I Was Your Man (46-14) and RCA's Pink featuring Nate Ruess with Just Give Me A Reason (74-25). February 11, 201313 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Positiva heading for first Universal chart-topper Source: MW by Paul Willams Dance label Positiva is set for its first UK No 1 single under Universal ownership this Sunday with Avicii versus Nicky Romero's I Could Be The One. The single has opened up a 26% sales lead at the top of the midweeks, according to the Official Charts Company, with its first-week sales having fallen just short of 70,000 downloads up to the end of business on Thursday. Positiva scored a string of No 1 singles prior to Universal's $1.9bn (£1.2bn) buyout of EMI, but this will be the first since the deal went through. The label, whose last UK chart-topper was a year ago with David Guetta featuring Sia's Titanium, was not one of the assets that needed to be sold by Universal as part of Parlophone Label Group (PLG) to meet EC demands as it is affiliated to Virgin Records. However, the individual artist contract for Guetta had to be and was part of the £487m deal with Warner last week to buy PLG. I Could Be The One's success will likely mean Thrift Shop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz and released on the Macklemore label will have to vacate the top after just a week. It is currently 2 in the midweeks, with Def Jam/Mercury act Rihanna's long-running Stay with Mikky Ekko looking like hitting a new chart peak as it climbs 8-3 in the week to date. Parlophone signing Gabrielle Aplin's Please Don't Say You Love Me is new at 4 as the Island-issued White Noise by Discloure featuring AlunaGeorge drops to 5 having debuted at 2 last Sunday. New York's Baauer will score a first UK hit this weekend with Harlem Shake on the indie Mad Decent label new at 6 in the midweeks, while Bruno Mars looks set to fly back into the Top 10 with sales of his Atlantic single When I was Your Man up 470% on the week to leap 46-9. Mumford & Sons' Grammy Album of the Year win with Babel has helped to lift UK sales of the Gentlemen Of The Road/Island release by 173% to move it 17-5 on the midweeks. Warner Bros act Foals are hanging on to the No 1 spot by fewer than 1,000 sales at present with the newly-issued Holy Fire as Polydor's Les Miserables soundtrack at 2 looks set to catch them. Foals also face competition from Emeli Sande whose Virgin debut Our Version Of Events has increased its sales by 48% in the week to rise 4-3, while Jake Bugg's eponymous Mercury album drops 2-4. Temper Temper, the new album frm RCA's Bullet For My Valentine, presently registers as a new entry at 10. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Avicci/Nicky Romero (70k) 2 Macklemore/Ryan Lewis/Wanz (51.8k) 3 Rihanna/Mikky Ekko 4 Gabrielle Aplin 5 Disclosure/AlunaGeorge Top 10 6 Baauer :o 9 Bruno Mars [When I Was Your Man] Top 15 The Lumineers Top 20 Justin Timberlake [suit & Tie] Top 30 Bruno Mars [Locked Out Of Heaven] 23 Foals 24 Justin Timberlake [Mirrors] 25 Pink/Nate Ruess 26 Drake Labrinth/Emeli Sande Top 40 39 Adele ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Foals (1k ahead) 2 Les Miserables 3 Emeli Sande 4 Jake Bugg 5 Mumford & Sons [babel] Top 10 Bruno Mars 10 Bullet For My Valentine Top 15 Richard Thompson 15 P!nk Top 20 Emelia Mitiku Paloma Faith Modestep Jools Holland Lumineers Top 30 Eva Cassidy fun. February 12, 201313 yr Author Foals to do the double this week please, anyhow they probably have the #1 album next Sunday, hopefully
February 12, 201313 yr Big battle for the number 1 album this week with new releases by the Foals (which could be their biggest album to date) & Bullet for my Valentine(possibly the biggest metal band in Britain right now). I expect BFMV to take an early lead with their big fanbase but Foals should win out in the end and the top 3should again sell well with LM selling at least another 30k and it should do right up until the oscars is past!! As for the singl;e i want Mackelmore for another week as it will last longer than Avicii who will sell well this week but sales will deccline quicker - Thrift Shop IS the most popular song right now! Prediction - Albums 1) Foals 41k 2) Bullet for my Valentine 40k 3) Les Miserable 34k Singles - 1) Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis 93k 2) Avicii/Nicky Romero 90k 3) Disclosure/Aluna George 48k Edited February 12, 201313 yr by steve201
February 12, 201313 yr Interesting to see the album chart midweeks.. And also where Mirrors by JT lands, at least here it has the same strategy than Bowie's latest. "Mirrors" hasn't really taken off yet though..
February 12, 201313 yr Just listened to 'Mirrors' on YouTube and, despite being 8 minutes long, is already so much better than 'Suit & Tie' after just one listen imo.
February 12, 201313 yr Author Jamila Cruel Rhythm @crueljamila Foals number 1 in the midweeks! https://twitter.com/crueljamila/status/301281068424769537 Let's hope they hold on, I'm just not sure, mind you they probably only need 32k for a #1 album this week, surely Les Mis will do less than 34k, its sales seem to be decreasing each week.
February 12, 201313 yr I don't think BFMV will be anywhere near Foals this week, Foals have the "album of the week" at Amazon which means their mp3 album is reduced which normally will ensure a band does quite well the Bullet album hasn't had the best reviews and personally I don't think it's that great either, certainly not good enough for me to buy a physical or mp3 copy of it. I guess they could sell using the fanbase but the idea of it not being part of the reduced offers in digital stores is going to hurt it, it's also not in the top 20 sellers of physical CDs at Amazon either whereas Foals is No2 Foals is No1 on ITunes as well, BFMV are 9 Edited February 12, 201313 yr by Gerry1975
February 12, 201313 yr Twitter Rob Copsey (music writer for Digital Spy) Avicii is number one in the midweek charts. Hooray.
February 12, 201313 yr https://twitter.com/crueljamila/status/301281068424769537 Let's hope they hold on, I'm just not sure, mind you they probably only need 32k for a #1 album this week, surely Les Mis will do less than 34k, its sales seem to be decreasing each week.Les Mis won't decline quite so fast just yet. The BAFTAs were on Sunday and they won an award or two I believe (none of the major ones though IIRC) and they're hotly tipped for Oscar success, so I think they can hold above 30k for a couple more weeks yet. After the Oscars, who knows?!
February 12, 201313 yr Woo at Foals starting at #1. Just a case of them fending off Les Mis over the week now. Would have been nice to get how far ahead they are today.
February 13, 201313 yr Pink now, didnt realise the guy featuring was the guy who looks like Guy Pierce from Fun?!
February 13, 201313 yr This is mental - if it tops the chart itll be the most random number 1 in years!!
