Posted February 15, 201312 yr The wonderful Martin (Ghosty) will be taking a short break from our team to allow him to concentrate on his busy offline life. As such we will be advertising tomorrow for a temporary position on the BJSC Veto team. While this is being advertised as a temporary position, if Martin decides to step down then the position will become permanent. Because of this unique situation we are going to undertake a different solution to normal. We will ask that you apply for this position if you would like to become a BJSC moderator. We will then take, who in our opinion are, the best candidates for a full BJSC mod position and add them to our veto team for a month each. Sort of like a trail run. During this time we hope that you will have full access to our staff forum so you can fully participate in the veto process and the general day-to-day running of the contest. What we won't be giving you at this time is the blue badge and the fun powers that come with it. Any long term matters facing this contest and major rule changes will be reserved to the four moderators but we welcome your input in these matters if they arise during your time with the veto team. That is somewhat unlikely though given the distinct lack of changes to the rules we have brought in in the post 1BF contest. It's kinda like doing work experience in a way. It's a really great way for us to see what you'll be like to work with so if Martin does decide to leave our team  then we will have a better base of evidence with which to decide who would best fill the position. Full details about how you can apply will be posted tomorrow. In the mean time, feel free to ask any questions you have about any of this! (For the record, this was put into motion before Martin DNQ'd this month so this is not an overreaction to that. It should go without stating but I wanted to just set the record straight before the inevitable comments. Trust me when I say I would not allow a DNQ to lead to us losing a very valuable member of our team.)
February 15, 201312 yr Author By tomorrow I mean Friday 15th. It was still the 14th when I started this post :drama:
February 15, 201312 yr oh :( it would be v sad if martin did leave permanently, for consistency's sake, for legacy's sake (haven't you been a mod for AGES in this forum ghosty? :o) and because of his wonderful and invaluable statkeeping! considering the amazing amount of participants though i'm sure we'll find some sort of at least decent replacement for now ^_^
February 15, 201312 yr Author Martin has been with us for 2years. The mods joined on the following rough dates: Cal - Oct 2011 Martin - Jan 2011 Tom - Jan 2010 Silas - March 2009 36th contest as a mod for me! :cheer:
February 15, 201312 yr I suppose I should explain my side of the situation as well just so everybody is aware of the reasons behind this happening. Basically, since October last year I have had less and less time to commit to helping with the running of the contest. I started a university course and have had two jobs on the go as well. Unless contests ran perfectly alongside the deadlines I had for assignments, I found it increasingly difficult to find a window to carry out the tasks I do for the contest surrounding the updating of threads, most importantly the stats thread. Especially with the two work commitments I had as well. I ran with it for a couple of months, thinking I'd be able to sort out some sort of pattern, but I'm exactly halfway through my first part of the course this week and I still haven't found a way to comfortably fit the contest around my offline activities. I first brought these problems to the attention of the other mods after BJSC 50, stating that I would step down after TBO had finished. It was because of a combination of my busy schedule and the fact I just wasn't enjoying my role here like I once did. That was because of a number of issues including a run of poor results, the feeling of constantly not being able to please you all despite all the best intentions and a feeling of not being able to provide the necessary credentials for the vetoing role due to losing complete touch with mainstream music. There then followed a very hectic period where I was leaving one of my jobs, but then ended up staying. At the point where I was leaving, I figured I'd have more spare time to commit to the contest, so I decided to retract my resignation from the mod role. Of course, with me ending up staying in my job, that left me right back where I started. I was reluctant to mess my fellow mods around again so thought I'd give BJSC 51 a go with the intention of sticking it out for the long run. Sadly, it's not gone any better and the dates of this contest do not fit in well with my course at all. What with a large part of the module starting next week, I'm not going to be able to find the time to carry out the usual updates for weeks! So therefore I've suggested it would be best to get somebody else in to replace me. That person will more than likely be taking over the role of keeping the threads up to date and there's a good few hours commitment there. What I will say however is that you will be supported by a stellar trio of fellow mods, who have provided a huge amount of the enjoyable moments I have had in this contest since I joined the mod team. I cannot thank them enough for that. I also want to thank Phil for giving me the option to return in a couple of months time should situations change, it means a lot to be given the option. So yeah, that's about it really. I may be trying to hammer down the door wanting to return in a couple of years time, but for now I feel I just need to take a break from the role and allow someone else to come in who can offer better assistance to the other mods and participants. And I wish whoever comes into the role the best of luck with it! ^_^ I will offer assistance with going through the methods of updating various aspects of the stats thread should anyone wish to have help with it.
February 15, 201312 yr Oh :( I'll be really sorry to see you go, Martin. I'm sure there are many people chomping at the bit for this role but still. Will you continue to take part in the contest?
February 15, 201312 yr I'm probably going to take a break for a couple of months and then see what's what then.
February 15, 201312 yr BITCH PLEASE. YOU AIN'T ALLOWED NO SOCIAL LIFE. GET YOUR LAZY SELF BACK IN HERE. NOW. (Always a shame to see someone step down (temporary or not) though and it's even worse when it's a great poster/mod!) :drama:
February 15, 201312 yr Thanks for all your hard work and best of luck with everything, Martin, I do hope you'll still be around! I can't imagine who would fill these shoes, although I'm sure they'll be a lot of people wanting to.
February 15, 201312 yr Author The departure of Martin, even temporarily, is a massive loss to our team. Working with Martin has been great fun over the last two years and I really do hope his personal life becomes less hectic. :( Out of the sadness however comes a great opportunity for a few people to get to experience the veto system from the mods side. Also for us to get to know and work more closely with some of you is a great chance. I'm looking forward to that aspect. I have to head over to Dundee in a bit so the application will be open this evening.
February 15, 201312 yr Oh no. :( Don't take too long a break from the contest, Martin, at least I hope you don't. But it is understandable real life has got in the way. You've really been a credit to the team and the contest.
February 15, 201312 yr Genuinely very disappointed at this - one of the roles you have of doing the stats sounds like absolute HELL, and probably is quite time-consuming, so if you don't have a lot of time to dedicated it, then I do understand your choice. REALLY hope you don't decide to leave for good though, consistently seen you as a very hard working mod, and one that has always managed to put across your point of view is a very understandable way. But, mods do come and go, and it doesn't take a genius to see how much work goes into BJSC (which is why I do feel a bit bad that I seem to be complaining so much), so I fully understand your reasons. :( If it wasn't for just getting the PC job, I may have applied for this - Silas is now breathing a huge sigh of relief. :kink:
February 15, 201312 yr Sad to see you leaving the team, Martin (especially so soon after I've started again). But I guess real life has to take top priority sometimes, and hope you get that sorted. You've been a credit to the mod team, and I wish whoever fills in your role (whether temporary or not), the best of luck. Hope to see you resume competing soon though, as you have sent some cracking tracks in the past! Just realise this post makes me sound like a mod, it's my (as an outsider) point of view! February 15, 201312 yr Thanks for the kind words peeps ^_^ The departure of Martin, even temporarily, is a massive loss to our team. Working with Martin has been great fun over the last two years and I really do hope his personal life becomes less hectic. :( To be honest, I do quite enjoy doing the amount of stuff I'm doing - keeps me out of trouble :kink: . The main reason I am doing it though is to forge a career (one that would be less hectic!) and so I have to focus on that really.
February 15, 201312 yr Doubt anyone can match up to Ghosty as a replacement really. Even if it's a temporary thing. (Obviously not going to apply for this because you guys didn't choose me the last time. YUP never going to forgive y'all and forget what happened. Nuh huh) Edited February 15, 201312 yr by パーベル
February 15, 201312 yr What a shame seeing Ghosty. go, I've seen his constant effort ever since I participated in BJSC and it's sad to see such a long mod resign from the post.. :(
February 15, 201312 yr Martin. :( Although I was in a similar predicament back in 2009 with the whole compiling of the ChC Multichart and gave up the role/responsibility when the office where I had been working closed down and we moved to Manchester. I just ended up not having anywhere near the same amount of time as I did working in Reddish so I can understand that real life has to come first. Pavel thinking what is this REAL LIFE I speak of. AGOG. :o Hope you're able to find a nice balance between the two. Good luck with the course you're studying, hope that goes well for you too. :D
