February 24, 201312 yr Well, I kinda knew they wasn't but I can't believe they wasn't Rachel Stevens - I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) Rachel Stevens - Some Girls The Saturdays - Just Can't Get Enough The Saturdays - Missing You The Saturdays - All Fired Up Spice Girls - Stop Melanie C - Northern Star Emma - Maybe Victoria Beckham - Out of your Mind
February 24, 201312 yr The Saturdays - Just Can't Get Enough The Saturdays - Missing You The Saturdays - All Fired Up Weren't these all midweek number ones? I know Missing You was, All Fired Up may have just been number one briefly on iTunes.
February 24, 201312 yr Songs that I generally thought got to #1 over here, but didn't: Blondie/ One Way or Another Michael Jackson/ Thriller Van Halen/ Jump Bon Jovi/ Livin' On A Prayer
February 24, 201312 yr Weren't these all midweek number ones? I know Missing You was, All Fired Up may have just been number one briefly on iTunes. Yes, JCGE until Thursday, Missing You until Saturday and All Fired Up on Tuesday only.
February 24, 201312 yr Yes, JCGE until Thursday, Missing You until Saturday and All Fired Up on Tuesday only. They really have been truly unlucky! I can't see 'What About Us' doing it for them, but it's not impossible.
February 24, 201312 yr Songs that I generally thought got to #1 over here, but didn't: Blondie/ One Way or Another Michael Jackson/ Thriller Van Halen/ Jump Bon Jovi/ Livin' On A Prayer As far as I'm aware, One Way or Another wasn't even a UK single, but it is very well known so I'd understand why anyone would think it was very successful in the charts.
February 24, 201312 yr A few more: Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing (#4) LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live (#7) Sean Paul - Get Busy (#4?) Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone (#5) Avril Lavigne - Complicated (#3) Geri Halliwell - Look At Me (#2) Rihanna - S.O.S. (#2) Atomic Kitten - Ladies' Night (#8) S Club Juniors - One Step Closer (#2) Edited February 24, 201312 yr by SceneofSIXCrimes
February 24, 201312 yr Good call on all the ones in bold. Especially 'Reach'...I still think that holds the record for longest run at #2 doesn't it? "Reach" only had a 3-week run at Number 2, so nowhere near the longest run.
February 24, 201312 yr I thought both All the things she said by TATU & Bring me to life by Evanescence were no.1's in the US because they seemed so popular and big at the time but nope 20 & 5 respectively. Edited February 24, 201312 yr by Rob Summers
February 25, 201312 yr And going back in time, everyone always (wrongly) assumes Denis by Blondie was a big number one. Apart from those of us who are old enough to remember it stalling at number two :(
February 25, 201312 yr Jamelia's Superstar (#3) and Thank You (#2) And Girls Aloud's No Good Advice (#2)
February 25, 201312 yr MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This Such a classic track that I didn't know it only reached #3 until I searched it. Not that I knew the chart positions of songs back then, but still. Edited February 25, 201312 yr by FM11
February 25, 201312 yr And on a slightly different note, what about those current/very recent tracks that in years to come people will think got to no. 1 when they didn't. I'm thinking of Skyfall, the general Bond hype, the awards the song has won, will give the impression of a massive no.1 hit when people look back. And of course it would have made no.1 easily were it not for that Friday release. Edited February 25, 201312 yr by Col1967
February 25, 201312 yr Pre-writing down the charts off teletext (1988) I always thought "Walking on Sunshine" got to number one as I'd hear it lots & Venus by Bananarama. They were solid #8 chart smashes! So hard to think of others without Chart Stats there to save my blushes. Holiday by Madonna perhaps

Seems odd in retrospect that it didn't even come particularly close to unseating 'Grenade' in its second week at the top. Pre-writing down the charts off teletext (1988) I always thought "Walking on Sunshine" got to number one I agree with this one, always used to assume this was a #1.

Seems odd in retrospect that it didn't even come particularly close to unseating 'Grenade' in its second week at the top. Adele can count herself a little unlucky with 3 no. 2s and just one no.1 given how 'massive' a star she is. Still, the no.1 hit she did manage didn't do too badly overall..... I agree with this one, always used to assume this was a #1. Yes, this must be quite a popular misconception. I've heard people say that this was a no.1 hit too. Still, at least I tried to get it to no.1 by buying it at the time :)
February 27, 201312 yr Sophie Ellis-Bexter - Murder on the dancefloor is another one I thought reached no.1 but reached 2 instead :(
February 27, 201312 yr the saturdays - all fired up sophie ellis-bextor - murder on the dancefloor christina aguilera - moves like jagger
