Dido will never have a hit again. She's not been relevant since 2004 and we live in a climate which worse than ever with being hot on 'flavours of the month'.

Define relevant. If she gets a top 3 album this week, that strikes me as pretty relevant

Not if it debuts in the top 5 and spends like 4 weeks in the top 75 because it was a fanbase purchase.

You may come to regret that comment if it happens to Bastille too... :)

They're a new act with a lot of hype who seem to be getting a lot of mainstream support, thus stand more chance of being a consistent seller with this album. I dare say by album 4 Bastille could be in the same position of not appealing to anybody outside of their established fanbase, it's just the way it goes.

I'm not trying to throw shade on Dido by the way, I do actually like her and think she gets a lot of undeserved stick. However, she certainly is not relevant in this day and age...

The above implies Radio 2 are *not* mainstream, because of their support of Dido?

This vidcapper denialism of Bastille is pretty reminiscent of fun. 'not having a chance at #1' and later 'not having a chance of being a million seller' despite both of those being inevitable from a very early stage... :P

Really not a fan of 'Ready Or Not', hoping it misses the top 10 but I expect it will make it there, I think it's had quite a lot of TV support as well as some support from both R1 and Capital plus it's a quiet week.

 78. The Sea - Swim Deep

Was thinking this would drop out of the top 100 almost immediately much like Bullet For My Valentine did a few weeks ago but maybe it could actually go top 100 officially :o

If you define 'mainstream' as 'music in the chart', then yes, Radio 2 is not mainstream.

Anyone that collaborates with Kendrick Lamar is pretty relevant imo :kink:

most bizarre collaboration 2013 :heehee:

A total of 9 of the artists on their playlist out of 28 in total are likely to be in the top 40 albums this week. Admittedly a few haven't released albums recently but that's far from mainstream. The vast majority of those 9 are acts that have wide support from other radio stations as well, only Josh Groban and Michael Ball are currently doing well in the albums chart based mostly on Radio 2 support.

Also, Dido is currently not on the R2 playlist (neither are Stereophonics for that matter) while Bastille are.

What does any of this have to do with iTunes? ^ Bit annoying checking the thread for the latest movement updates and reading a discussion about bloody Dido.
Yeah they're not on the playlist anymore, but I know Dido was on the A list for almost 2 months so they can't play it forever. As well, I wouldn't base the sales on iTunes, as Didos last album only peaked at #7 on iTunes yet reached #2, so it's not a clear indication. The majority of her fans (75%+) would buy her album in stores other than download it.

Personal opinion, but discussing Dido is way more interesting to me than whatever's going on on itunes. Love this woman and my copy of the album should arrive tomorrow but I agree with most, she won't be heading to no.1. I thought she might sneak it until I realised how busy the release schedule was this week.

Yes Regina, I am more than aware of this. I was just explaining to Hayzayy what she should do to get another hit. ^_^

She'd truely be a FOOL not to take your advice.

I have to wait another week or two ;_; no moneyz.

She has an album and music out this week. That IS relevant. It is a vast improvement on some of the tangents we get in these threads.

Vidcapper, I am shocked at how dismissive your attitude is to young new music. It was obvious a mile off that Bastille would be number 1 over Dido and Stereophonics. I know this and I am 37, so age has nothing to do with it!

I know your pain. I had to wait until Christmas for the last one. Full time employment wins.

I am also forced to wait for the new Stereophonics album and new Tomb Raider game ;_; student life sucks.

At least I have the No Freedom EP, her acoustic version of Quiet Times is stunning <3
