A couple of listens in and I'm unexpectedly liking this, got a real Marvin/Off The Wall MJ vibe about it.

Yeah I get the Marvin vibe. I'm liking this too after a couple of spins. Fresh breath of air through the charts at least, let's hope radio picks it up.

It's crazy how much his voice sounds like Robin Thicke by the way (or the other way around)

I don't think people are saying this. Whether or not he has been working on the song for 6 years or did it last week, it is the fact that he has taken six years off and could have any time in these years decided to record new music, and however long it actually took, he still had a lot of time to perfect it, or if he did it very recently he could have spent more time perfecting it, so with a period as long as that, you do expect something better than this.

But maybe this is the perfected song in his eyes. How could he have possibly made a record that was perfect for everyone?

I don't understand why every second poster is hoping it's a buzz single. It's #1 all over the place and no matter what its single status is, it's going to be on the album. Why is this being the lead single such a bad idea if it's doing well, exactly?
I was pleasantly surprised by this! I was expected a way over-hyped 'style over substance' kind of song, but it's a really nice, smooth RnB song which I'm happy to see getting to #1 on iTunes worldwide! I think people had way too high expectations for this and are disappointed that it's only a 8.5/10 song rather than 10/10. I suppose the fact that I didn't have much expectation of it might have helped me appreciate it a bit more than others though?
Okay, this bitch grew on me. The intro is quite fabulous tbh.

But the main reason why it's doing so well is because it's Justin Timberlake. Let's be honest, Justin could release anything as his comeback single and it would go to #1. And every second poster thinks that the song is mostly underwhelming and hopes that it is a buzz single, regardless of chart position.

I think the fact that this is still, currently number 1 on iTunes shows that it's radio play or whatever buzz it's getting now is from the general public and that they are actually liking it. The first two days or so is when the "fanbase buys" usually happen, hence why most fanbase bought songs peak really early on iTunes and then fall away quite swiftly, before stabilising/climbing. He's definitely held up a lot better than I initially expected him to.
On the first few listens, it feels like the song is incoherent and lacking a spark. His voice does sound very good though, and I like the retro production. Maybe it will grow on me.

I realise it's doing well because it's the JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE comeback and whatnot but if people didn't like it then it wouldn't be selling as much as it currently is. And your second point doesn't answer my question. What difference does it make to you if the song is a buzz or proper single? Surely you want the singles to be songs that do well, rather than songs you're particularly fond of?

Dandy* beat me to it with the Marvin Gaye comparison. Once the song gets going, it reminds me of 'What's Going On'. The slow motion-esque intro is interesting to say the least. It is a grower - one of those tracks that requires a few listens for it to click. I still prefer quite a few of his earlier singles more though.

I think the reason why 'Suit & Tie' is holding up well is because sales overall are going to be lower than last week. I reckon this will sell roughly 60k which is good for a lead single to potentially be #1 with an OA/OS release. It'll most likely do a 'Diamonds' but won't have the longevity of Rihanna's single (ie; 14 weeks in the top 10). JT might have 14 weeks in the top 40 in comparison.

I've only heard the iTunes clip (flop fan etc), but this is not what I wanted from Justin at all. I was hoping for something more along the lines of 'SexyBack' or maybe 'Rock Your Body'.

Don't get me wrong, it's not bad and it'd be decent as an album track, definitely hoping it's a buzz single though.

The intro is still the worst bit for me  Loving the rest though.

Almost one year on and it still sounds as fresh as it ever did! It's so timeless. Really love it!
