There are far worse offenders, they were more consistently bearable than The Wanted and 1D. Neither mourning nor celebrating.

They're the worst musical act I've seen live. Supporting Lemar in 2009 and I felt like I was at Butlins, with them making the crowd chant 'oggy oggy oggy!!! oi oi oi!!' and then did the thing where they get one half to say oggy oggy oggy.. well, you see where this is going.

Don't they have a tour planned for the end of the year? OOOPS.

Although a boyband splitting is as surprising as the pope being a catholic.

I look forward to seeing why exactly they did it, and who disagreed with who on "creative issues".

I know they seemed to be the bain of every chart watchers' life on here but I'm genuinely sad they're going. I was a fan of theirs from X Factor onwards and I knew when I saw that first audition of theirs that there was something special about them and that they'd do well. Always great to go see live on their tours and amazing singles to their name - and such a genuine brotherhood between them from forming themselves which I think few of today's current boybands can claim to have. I'll never forget JLS. Boyband legends!

Was initially surprised when I heard this, but I don't really care for them, so I'm not upset that they've decided to split. Their last album, though, was atrocious (having listened to the previews only).

The Wanted next please.

THIS.

I don't think they realize how quickly they'll vanish after they split..

...fast forward to 2021 and they'll be on that year's 'Big Reunion'.

Still, 1D are far more annoying/talentless.

Hmm, I can't say I'm completely taken aback by this news! I think they went as far as they could. Probably a good move for them to create hype via a split announcement, and go out with a bang.

I'm actually seeing them in August, at the Fusion Festival. First and last time I'll be seeing them! :o

Well no surprise really. Their career has been flailing, and although they helped launch the boyband genre there's so much more interest in One Direction and The Wanted, especially since the cracked America. I wondered whether they might give it one more try to crack America, but I can see why they're done. The other two (and especially 1D) are just too strong market powerhouses.

They must have earned some serious dolla anyway in their time. Ortiste is on the Forbes Young Person's rich list. I'd imagine Aston might launch a solo career, but the others I'd imagine will stay aware from the spotlight (Marvin aside probably) and concentrate on other business ventures.

Yeah, they'll probably actually get more rewards this way by generating more hype than they would've otherwise got for their GHs and tour. Their last album showed their days of being in the elite were in the past, and they were facing a the type of declining trajectory that McFly have had over the past 6 years - and let's be honest, JLS don't really strike you as the type who would want to carry on with little success purely for the love of music like McFly have.

They had a handful of decent songs (as well as a lot of shite), but oh well. Now that's over, I'm calling April 2014 in the One Direction sweepstakes.

This is great news! Not surprising at all seeing as their last era flopped. Today marks the beginning of the end of the boyband.
Can't say I'm shocked at all. I won't say it's great news because I liked a few of their songs but I'm not exactly going to cry myself to sleep over it, they were terrible at times as well. But yeah we all saw it coming anyway.
