That would be considered a success right now for her

I'm sure there was a song within the last few years which reached #40 and stayed there for two weeks.

'Ain't No Sunshine' had 2 non-consecutive weeks at #40 (40-63-57-40-...), can't find any other such songs since 2002.

Here is a list of songs that have peaked at #40 since 2002 (including songs that peaked higher before 2002, there's no quick way for me to get rid of these so I hope y'all can put up with them).

Taking Chances and Dark Side  Also One Moment In Time but obviously that was a #1 initially anyway.

Totally forgot Now I'm That Bitch peaked that low though, I thought it got to #30something (only a little higher I know ).

Thanks for that list Bre, some really good tunes on that list, and a few a thought charted much higher than #40.

Ooh, never seen that Bluetones video before. Not actually a very good vid, admittedly. I bought the single though, I should have remembered.

I should have remembered this too. Not only is it brilliant, I think it's the only track mentioned in this thread so far to have appeared on a Now album:

Well, some of them did :P 'One Moment In Time' was of course a #1 on its original release as was Paul Hardcastle's '19'. David Gray's song peaked at #26 at the end of 2001 but is on there due to being #40 in the first week of 2002. AC/DC as I already pointed out peaked at #14 with a live version of 'Highway To Hell'. There are probably others too. (The majority of that list is #40 peakers though).

EDIT: 'Hey Jude' is another that was quite obviously bigger than #40

Technologic and Can't Stop Moving stand out as #40 hits a lot of people must be aware of. Both deserved much higher positions.
Spiller - Cry Baby

I know there's probably a REALLY great song i've forgotten, oh well

Seriously? That's one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Alternatively, Sparky's Dream by Teenage Fanclub made it to #40, and is one of the best songs ever:

Cry Baby is SO bad, makes me cry listening to it! Horrible way to follow Groovejet!

Taking Chances was great but Celine has sadly long stopped being relevant...Livvi too, what a song!

We have the same taste..I love "Taking Chances" and "Dark Side". Both of them deserved to be much higher than #40.

I didn't realise Sonny J's "Can't Stop Moving" only peaked at #40. I bought that twice on CD single, once in late '07, then again in 2008 which was the Mirwais Mix if I remember rightly. Great song!

Now there's a tune and a half :music:

I remember Manchild's 'Nothing Without Me' from 2001, I heard it a lot on the radio and thought it'd be big.

Maybe Misha B could join this list just a week after Amelia Lily?

Seriously? That's one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Well, i didn't actually imply that Cry Baby was a 'great' song :kink: I'm aware that it's kinda awful, but there's just something that really STANDS OUT about it's awfulness (if that makes any sense)

I'm shocked no-one mentioned 'It's Time' until Bre posted that list, it's what instantly came to mind for me. I'm hoping it can peak higher than that though if Radio 1 start to play it instead of hammering 'Radioactive' (what happened there anyway, I could've sworn they added 'It's Time' and even began playing it.) It definitely deserves to either way!

I couldn't remember whether it was 'Sparky's Dream' or 'Mellow Doubt' that peaked at 40, you beat me to looking it up. Both excellent songs.

So is 'Tonight The Streets Are Ours' (another I can't believe I forgot). I bought 'Hey Girl' as well, actually.

Maria Rubia's Say It peaked at #40 as the follow up to Everytime You Need Me, fantastic little completely forgotten pop song, she even sang a bit of it in French!

Didn't some Texas single limp in at #40 at Xmas in 2003 as well?

So funny, the Maria Rubia track was the first to pop into my head as soon as I saw the title of this thread! Not sure why though, but I did love it at the time! Didn't think anyone else would've remembered it! :-)
