My gripe with it is that it strips the song of all its emotion and meaning. The worst cover version I've heard in quite a while, for sure.

 

Yup. Beyonce clearly didn't understand what the song was about -- or if she did understand it she's clearly not experienced anything in her life comparable which would allow to convey the meaning of the song. Singing it in a "sexy" way is so wide of the mark of what's required for this song.

 

And let's not get started on Andre 3000's parts.

To be honest, I don't think that was intention to be an emotional song. Having looked at the movie trailer and hearing some of the other songs, I think the song is supposed to sound a bit hollow emotionally. Maybe I'm wrong. But surely if it was supposed to be a heartfelt version, Beyonce would've been more than capable of conveying the emotion.

It's called a reinterpreted version. :lol: Why would they get Beyonce to cover a carbon copy of Amy's version? Surely they'd just put the original on the soundtrack instead... Also it's slightly patronising to Beyonce to say she didn't understand the song or hadn't experienced anything. :P She may be a star but she's still a human - she just doesn't broadcast her personal life - and I think even a 10 year old can understand what the song is about. It's certainly not cryptic. :lol:

Yes, iTunes really need to expand the range of songs they reduce to 59p!

Oh I don't mind that :D Still a great song. With it in the top 40 on iTunes now it must surely pass 1 million this week? It was on 990k as of 9/5 so must be within a couple thousand now.

 

I would be ever so happy if Olly Murs can make the top 40 now on Sunday.

 

He definitely will, with 2 versions top 100. Climbing very quickly as well! Video premiere effect I'm assuming?

 

John Newman (out the same week) will slay them both tbh.

 

I haven't even heard John's song but I think it's fair to assume it needs to beat Icona Pop. I like 'Gentleman' though.

One of the only good songs of 2013 is a bit of a flop. No surprise there.

 

Even if it's not quite lived up to its pre-orders it's still done incredibly well for a song that doesn't really sound like a hit IMO.

How can pre-orders appear on the singles chart?
