September 27, 201410 yr I was expecting something as dreadful as The Lodger, but thankfully it was a bit better than that on the basis it was actually funny, Capaldi pulls off the humour so much better than the last two doctors, which isn't too surprising I guess. Asides from that though, it didn't strike me as one that will be memorable, the villain/threat/use of the screwdriver was unbelievably half-arsed, but I get that they weren't the actual focus and it was more of a character development thing. Danny's still yet to excite/intrigue me in any way alas, next week's though looks like it'll be a highlight (I said that last week I know, but I'm more certain now) Edited September 27, 201410 yr by Chez Wombat
September 27, 201410 yr That episode was excellent on SO many levels. Was expecting it to be absolute trash based on what was said prior in DWM. It didn't even matter that there was next to no plot because I feel as though Peter and Jenna's chemistry can carry an episode and make it work even when the episode in general doesn't seem to be working. And Peter's humour is just on point all of the time. And for once they seem to have a child actor who isn't 100% cringey like all others have been, and is a bit of a moan or continual question-asker like all others have been - Courtney seems like she could be a great character if there's any justice in 'Kill the Moon'. Also LOVED that the Doctor took such a dislike to Danny (and I definitely don't think Danny "saving the world" was enough to win him over, so hopefully there's more tension to come (even if it makes for such an UNBEARABLE character in Danny, found myself hating him for the majority of the episode)). The vicious side of this Doctor fully showing itself was done magnificently. Gareth Roberts, you did an utterly fabulous job this time round x
September 28, 201410 yr ^^ I agree, I was worried this was going to be a filler episode but it was SO much better than I was expecting! I know the monster threat wasn't the focus (and the monster itself looked like some art project gone wrong!) but the pace of the episode was brilliant. The relationship between Clara and the Doctor is as excellent as usual, such great performances from Peter and Jenna I just hope the rumours that this is her last series are wrong as the character is great Still not convinced about this Danny plot, I hope we can have a few episodes now to focus less on Clara's private life. The only thing that confused me was the ending, I thought the people who went to the Promised Land where characters that died after meeting the Doctor but I don't remember the policeman meeting him?! Anyway, best episode of the series so far!! 9/10 for me, I really hope next weeks is a good one
September 28, 201410 yr Very enjoyable episode. Who can do no wrong at the moment. It's actually difficult to believe this is the same show as series 7.
September 28, 201410 yr The only thing that confused me was the ending, I thought the people who went to the Promised Land where characters that died after meeting the Doctor but I don't remember the policeman meeting him?! It was never said that that was the case on the show, it was merely speculation in this thread (and probably elsewhere).
September 28, 201410 yr A much better episode than I expected but still a bit underwhelming. I like the way the character development is more of a focus for Clara but it could do with toning down for a bit before it becomes too much of a soap opera. This episode lacked considerably in any kind of plot/threat. The Skovox Blitzer (terrible name) was more comical than threatening and ultimate;y seemd like an after thought with the episode basically being pitched as The Doctor meets Danny. Still not impressed by Pink but he's ok despite the cringy flip to save the day. Next looks promising but I hope Courtney isn't in it too much.

September 28, 201410 yr I've caught up on both Time Heist and The Caretaker now and thought they were really enjoyable episodes, I'm absolutely loving Peter Capaldi as the doctor more and more as each week passes and he is looking likely to become my favourite doctor to date if he carries on at this rate. The dialogue between him and Clara is becoming the best part of the show and, similarly, the dialogue sections displaying his dislike of Mr Pink was portrayed really effectively and entertainingly. Time Heist was my favourite episode to date, the right balance of scary/funny/intirguing to be a potential classic episode. The Caretaker was a great episode for what it was, namely an episode with the sole focus of developing the main characters and their storylines but the alien element of the story was particularly weak and let's not talk about the somersault.
September 28, 201410 yr It was never said that that was the case on the show, it was merely speculation in this thread (and probably elsewhere). I think that was also my interpretation of what happened in the first 2 stories but I'm looking forward to finding out what all this is about and the finale!!

October 4, 201410 yr Not sure how to take today's episode it felt like a damp squib, got to be one of the poorest episodes so far... the germs as they were called weren't that scary, looks like the Dr. is flying solo next week, oooh I spied Foxes in the trailer :D
October 4, 201410 yr Surely the ratings of this overbloated fat turkey have plummeted to record lows by now?
October 4, 201410 yr Why was the mission to the moon labelled as an American one when all of the crew and the bloke at mission control were British?
October 4, 201410 yr Why was the mission to the moon labelled as an American one when all of the crew and the bloke at mission control were British? I'm sure they said that the rocket was the only one left in existence, taken from an American history museum. Presumably it would've been too hard to transport it to Britain, therefore it would fall under American jurisdiction, regardless of the national make-up of the crew.
October 4, 201410 yr That one was very forgettable and quite disjointed, started out with a monster style plot and then completely transformed.
October 4, 201410 yr Why was the mission to the moon labelled as an American one when all of the crew and the bloke at mission control were British? I noticed that as well, and when did the British had a space programme. Time slot for the series is getting later and later, they must be losing a lot of younger viewers.
October 4, 201410 yr I noticed that as well, and when did the British had a space programme. Time slot for the series is getting later and later, they must be losing a lot of younger viewers. There's a European space programme and the UK are part of that. How that will develop over then next 35 years remains to be seen.
October 4, 201410 yr 8:35, wow that's pretty late for Doctor Who. Ideally 7pm and shove Strictly after it. Atlantis Season 2 will get the same treatment come November.
October 4, 201410 yr Oh I'm surprised by the reactions on here as that was my favourite episode of the series so far! It was kind of like the reverse of 'The Waters of Mars' (another of my favourite episode) and I like that aspect to it. I like how, as with TWOM, it wasn't traditionally predictable in the sense that you know they'll save the planet or whatever for definite. I thought it brought in a lot of interesting questions and the spider things were the scariest things for quite a while. However, I'm upset by the apparent loss of the Sanctuary Base 6 spacesuit after all these years!! I know the suits were still the same but it didn't have the logo on :( Even Orson Pink in 'Listen' was wearing it (for reasons that I really really don't understand). That 'The Impossible Planet'/'The Satan Pit' (best eps) impact. 01. Kill the Moon 02. Deep Breath 03. Robots of Sherwood 04. Listen 05. Time Heist 06. Into the Dalek 07. The Caretaker Next weeks AGAIN looks really good and the Mummy looks terrifying! This really is shaping up to be the best nu-Who series which I never never expected, especially with being unsure of Peter Capaldi and the character of Clara at the start of the series. There's probably been less BIG standouts than other series but it's definitely been the most consistently good series yet.
