Really, that's the rule? I always count featured artists as having the hit too

If Daft Punk and Blurred Links both sell 100 000 next week, would that make Pharrell a record-breaker or not because he's featured?

He would break the record, but not the same record as a lead artist. In those chart reports when someone breaks a record they specify if it's as a lead artist or just in general.

Oh right!

I hope he breaks it. I don't think it's likely, but hopefully. No one's done 6 since Cher though and this is no Cher song at the turn of the millenium ...

Also, I've just seen the American Hot 100 (mainly 2,3,4 my least favourite songs almost of all time listed in order of how much I hate them) ... I don't think I'll be complaining about our chart again! Ours is the freshest, fastest, newest , highest quality chart ever in comparison.

Yeah, their chart is very, very slow. Songs spending 20+ weeks top 10 is common there, and some weeks a large amount of the top 10 remains static. I'd hate such a slow moving chart, which is why I'm kind of scared of the prospect of streaming ever being included in ours.

And there's some songs like Cruise and Radioactive which are in the top 10 and have already been charting for like 5 months.

Off topic a bit - but I've seen loads of people say how Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were ridiculous to release 'Can't Hold Us' over 'Same Love' - but after hearing Same Love at Radio 1's Big Weekend, I completely disagree. Can't Hold Us sounds much more anthemic and likely to capitalise on the Thrift Shop hype.

Wish J-Lo would get a move on - but in all honesty, I think she's doing well. Nobody really cares about her anymore, a bit like Xtina, and this single has had little to no airplay. It's doing well to be as high as it is at this point.

*Having* the hit, yes - *releasing* the hit, no.

I think that Same Love would be perfect for a September/October release! In hindsight, Can't Hold Us was the perfect choice of song to release after Thrift Shop.

I agree. There have been so many much more ridiculous single choices than that. In the US Can't Hold Us and Same Love were charting basically the same while Thrift Shop was big, so either one was justified. They were always both going to be hits anyway regardless of what happened.

'Same Love' would've probably gone nowhere if it was the follow-up to 'Thrift Shop'. As someone said a few weeks ago, it would've just been too big a dramatic change to go from a novelty song (as a lot of people view TS to be) straight to a really serious song, I doubt 'Same Love' would've been taken seriously. 'Can't Hold Us' is basically a perfect bridge between them, because it's more "credible" than 'Thrift Shop' but it's also not such a radical departure either.

This is precisely my thought - Same Love following Thrift Shop would've been silly, like you say too drastic of a change. Can't Hold Us has shown that they can do stuff that isn't novelty, and has given them a successful 2nd single, to allow their careers to extend as far as a 3rd single.

Because the UK and the US are the only charts in the world?

I swear that the music industry are paying her to do all of these promo appearances (if that's what she's doing?).
Just extensive use of 'Read All About It (Pt. III)' as a bed I believe. That song needs to BURN. Currently #106 but will probably jump like 80 places at the next update. :manson:

I think he is referring to the multiple Sande use in BGT (again and again etc.)

Yeah it was played for like 15 minutes on looop at the end of the show. The most abhorrent over-usage of a song ever :/

Would have loved Prof Green to be getting the exposure instead!

I feel the same way! The original version of Read All About It is one of my favourite songs ever.
